  1. I'm still not getting this 'joke'. I've lots of GC accounts 'for emergencies' but children_in_need isn't one of them. I rather resent the insinuation that I'd bother with a sock puppet to make a point, if I didn't need to. As it happens, I'm not even planning to do anything for CiN this year. With my costs up 30% on last year, any my income not matching this rise, charity is beginning at home at the moment Just wondered why you would need lots of other accounts ? What "emergencies" might arise ? And wheteher it is of any benefit for other cachers to set up extra accounts ?
  2. I thought that as the original poster you were about to ask for the thread to be closed !! Said in pure jest to try and bring a smile to everyones face
  3. Goodbye Manderin, If there was anybody who could make people feel welcome and was a real ambassador for all cachers out there it was you. Thanks for all your work over the last few months and I hope you now have more time to be able to go out and cache and enjoy whatever else retired ducks do. Mark
  4. Am I allowed to say that I wouldn't change anything? It all seems to work fine for me Of course you can say that but there is another thread going on for those with a big wooden spoons I would like to see an easier way of getting all caches in uk onto GSAK intead of having to to the dates thing
  5. You know, I seriously thought about this earlier today as I originally posted trying to stop the never ending posts on the other thread. It seems some people just like to argue. As I said at the start, Live with it, move on..................if you don't like it go elsewhere. I'd call this a discussion, not an argument. Just because I take a contrary view to you (as I just did) or anyone else doesn't automatically make it an argument. If I wanted one of those, I'd just quote Third Degree Witch and add a pithy comment about being given the benefit of the doubt, keeping an open mind or judge-me-on-my-performance at the end. Live with it = put up with it. Move on = give up. Elsewhere = ...did you have somewhere specific in mind? Elsewhere could be on the gagb forums as this is where the arguements/discussions usually seem to be moved. If in knew how to I'd do a linky but I thnk SP has a link by his name after the "hero" bit
  6. Living over here in England the weather tends to be fairly unpridictable. The best things I tend to go for are the quick drying type T Shirts that addidas etc do as you never seem to get too warm and if it rains you are fine 15 mins later. Other than that I use a pair of older jeans, a lightweight fleece and normally cary a lightweight waterproof just in case. Maybe we should all get a bit more creative and ditch the dull colours and hardwearing clothes for something a bit sexier ! It could make meeting others more fun
  7. Thats a fair point and also a good idea. Maybe they could set up a thread where people can go to moan/bicker/debate/point score etc etc. Instead of it being brought into other threads started for different reasons.
  8. It was a long time ago that this post started so I thought that everyone might need reminding about what it was all about. I know I'm a relative newbie but I must say that I am disappointed with all the bickering that goes on here, you may like to call it "debate" but to me it just seems like you keep going on about the same topics over and over again which then decends into what seems like a slanging match with various members trying not to enhance the game/forums but to score points off each other or attepting to assert some non-existing authority. Have you realised that this may be the reason things are going stale. What newcomer would want to become involved in what usually turns out to be an arguement which has little to do with enhancing the game or an individuals enjoyment.
  9. I think that this is a great idea! I live in South Norwood / Croydon in London and there are plenty of places for this kind of thing here! There is also a collection of caches that follows Jack the Ripper in central London so I could do one highlighting all the recent stabbings we've had in a 3 mile radius from home over the last year. The only problem with this idea would be that I would need approx 3 warehouse's full of micro's to be able to place a cache at each spot! Maybe we could also put this topic in one of the other forums that asks people what they have in their cache bags eg: stab vest, taser, rape alarm, kilo of crack etc ! Good luck with the series, I reckon people will soon realise that these areas aren't that bad as it's usually the media that blow things out of proportion!
  10. I think that under the rules it was the correct decision but in terms of pure entertainment value I thought it was a shame!! A good debate/row/moan is more fun to read than the "congrats" threads!
  11. Sorry, I think I may have been misunderstood! As I said: I can imagine the reviewer would want help with the workload he has, but have the changes affected the "average" cacher to a large degree? This is not meant as an "I'm o.k Jack" comment but I was trying to understand the reason for the importance that is being attached to getting a new reviewer asap, surely the powers that be would be more likely to act more promptly if a greater number of people where affected other than the overworked reviewer?
  12. Hello There. Maybe I'm missing the point here but has the fact that the U.K only has 1 reviewer made such a big difference to how things were before? Whilst I can imagine that the remaining reviewer may want an extra pair of hands to ease the burden of his workload is it really our place to start nagging about the length of time its taking especially as the reviewer has said an announcement will be made after the Mega Event ? Anyway, happy caching and good luck to the new reviewer whoever he or she may turn out to be!
  13. In my opinion if you substituted "poorer" for "more limited" and "interesting" for "potentially off topic/likely to get closed" then this post sums up the whole situation thats been growing for the last few weeks. I used to like having a look on here but it seems that lately the majority of posts or replies seem to have some sort of moan or provocation attached to them. I remember I used to get told if you really don't like it go somewhere else! This is especially true when the mod places a nice easy link on the post where you can carry on with the discussion on the other site if you'd like to. If you don't then post on the other forum is it because you were not interested in the first place or more worryingly just wanted a moan! Please think about it. I'm not trying to get peoples backs up as I see no point but just wanted to point out that there is another alternative if you want to talk about other things!
  14. Great idea! Really enjoyed the last event and have been keeping an eye on the forums and cache pages for another London based ever since! Count me in.
  15. Great news Wendy! Looking at the news reports it seems like they have found the perfect candiate. Keep up all the good work sounds like you really do make a difference. PS: have you ran a PQ yet for all the caches along the route?
  16. Was just having a look through some of the other forums and think I may have found the answer for you, can't do the linky thing at work but have a look under: general geocaching discusions then page 3 and its about 6 down. Hope this helps.
  17. Since this is the geocaching website i'll guess its how strong the satalite signal is? Or is that just called Reception! edited for poor speeling
  18. Otherwise you could keep an eye on this post and wait until MarkandLynn pick up on it then all your questions will be answered! They seem to know loads of stuff and have been really helpful in the past!
  19. Looks great to me! Thanks also for the how to do the "linky thing" link, poxy computer at work does not have the http bit on it though! Proper code confirmed as GCTA5E. This cacher looks a bit unstable to say the least and is currently setting up a cache in which you have to trade your soul !?!
  20. Oops! GCTA5E don't know where that other one came from
  21. As previously stated I also believe its a great idea to set some more difficult caches so that everybody has something to suit their needs. Even if you don't like to do them yourselves the logs can be interesting to read! I have also just seen this cache page for one in America that I think takes things a little too far. Even "Cache U Nutter" might shy away from this one!!! GCT0SE (sorry but I don't know how to do the linky thing)
  22. Sounds like a great idea, its one i've considered myself as there is a large lake fairly close to where i live, would you leave a marker on the surface though? As a large area underwater would be difficult to search if deep, seeing as the majority of GPS units wouldn't enjoy a dunking! Good luck and i look forward to seeing the finished cache
  23. I've not done any of these but they seem to be the same sort of thing as the "Off Your Trolley" type caches which are great if you have a need to scratch that cache itch. I think that the train series could be a good way to meet new cachers especially if they are hidden at a station you use to get to work etc. You could stand waiting for the train to arrive watching the cache to see if anybody else is trying to find it, it would then be up to you to say hello or not! ( as per previous thread "would you say hello ?" ).
