  1. Thanks for the information. I went to the site and chose the appropriate squares and downloaded the query format that would download directly to my GPSr. Then I downloaded the map into the "main" Garmin folder when it opened (there was another file with a similar name there so I thought that was the right place) Is that all I need to do? I ran a query for each city and have it loaded on my GPSr too. So, just trying to give myself the best chance to find a few Thanks again, Blevdeb
  2. Hello everyone - just checking in - I am going to Capetown and Johannesburg South Africa next week and I wanted to grab a couple of caches while I am there. Not sure how I can go about doing this without South Africa maps for my Garmin - I just won't be caching more than grabbing those couple as I am there for something specific with folks who do not cache, so I don't want to spend the money on the maps - is there a way to download to my iPhone and use that without having the internet (which would also cost me a fortune) - any ideas? Thanks in advance. Blevdeb
  3. Thanks for the ideas - perhaps I'll bump into some local cachers while there. Can't wait to see how the UK caching experience is and to log a few. Blevdeb
  4. Hello UK Cachers! I am going to be visiting next week and wanted to try and do some light caching while in country. I will be in London, near Regent's Park, mostly for a couple of days, and then in Leeds for 3 days and then in York for 1 day. Have a coin to move, so need to find at least one large enough to accommodate coin, but really just wanted to have an idea of some "good" caches in these areas, so that I could build queries around them - sorry for the late notice - I leave on Tuesday morning, so only have 24 hours to prepare Can't wait - Blevdeb
  5. Hello and welcome - I live in NW Indiana and, while there are quite a few cachers here, the majority either freelance or belong to GONIL - which is North Eastern Illinois - they will let you join and many events are very close. However, I would be interested in an informal group here in NWI - I cache a lot solo and enjoy meeting others who enjoy the hobby so we can join up occasionally - it can be lots of fun.......I have a page on geocaching.com - blevdeb - so connect as friend and maybe we can meet and cache one weekend.
  6. Hello - I'll let you know if I'm in your position next week. Went this last weekend with 2 more experienced cachers and one who had been out, but couldn't find any on her own. We found 12, but the experienced folks were the key - they pulled the information and got us started, then I tracked. Probably wouldn't have found a few of them on my own or with someone else who wasn't experienced. Some were urban and some were in a local nature preserve out about 1/2 mile or so from parking. It was a blast, but relax - it's a challenge, but it's supposed to be fun too Read the clues too - helped me on a couple of them.
  7. Hello - new to the sport also. Went out with some friends this weekend for my first time - we found 12 - I don't know that I would have found them all because of what some others mentioned in the threads - I had no experience to tell me what I might be looking for and how it could be hidden. We were using the iPhone with GC app in conjunction with a "yellow" hand held gps and it worked well - we could search for local ones and descriptions and clues on the iPhone and then use the gps to track the coordinates. I only have an iphone, so we'll see how I do on my own over the next couple of weeks. Battery life of iPhone is not very long when using the app all the time. Good luck and have fun

Looking for an assist. I am new to geocaching - had a great first time out and wanted to post a pic to my gallery - however, I can't figure out how to do that. Can someone point me in the right direction please? Thanks - Blevdeb
