  1. I have a 2004 I would trade for a 2003 coin. The 03 is probably harder to find but you never know unless you ask.
  2. Contryguy and I recently drove about 160 miles into Kansas for a monkey from The Monkey Cache. We did do several caches in the area also. Last weekend my kids and I drove 110 miles to be a first to find and get a Geocoin which we had never seen one before. Actually this is normal for my location as we have found a fair number of caches in our immediate area and if we want to keep finding them we will have to buy more gas.
  3. How about this cache of mine? http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...52-2c7395e79d9c The story has been greatly embellished though the years but the story does match up pretty well with the evidence. As impossible as this story is to believe a lot of people must think some truth is there because some of the logs report unusual things left at this site and I have seen a few odd things myself.
  4. I have had this with a Legend. The screen had vertical lines some of the time and the rest of the time it was blank. Get your Vista ready for a trip to Kansas. Garmin support is second to none.
  5. I have one I use on my motorcycle and it works just fine. It has seen some rough bumps on the road and has never let me down yet. To make a long story short mine works just fine.
  6. I have found these on sale also but can’t seem to find very much information online. I am also considering one as a spare that the kids can use.
  7. I have been tossing the same type of question around for a couple of months now. I have a cache that is well off the beaten path and has minimal activity. I have been considering gathering some travel bugs from area caches that I have already found and placing them there to “encourage” some caching. The cache is not difficult to find or to get to just out of the way.
  8. StarBrand, I did several of you’re caches last summer and was very thankful for the snake warnings. Luckily I didn’t encounter any of these native animals but it did heighten my awareness of things while getting to the cache and back. I am located in the central part of the state and have never seen anything but a very large but not harmful bull snake. I for one appreciate the warning even if the chances of contact are small. It makes the entire experience a bit more exciting.
  9. I am interested in having a couple unactivated 2003 USA Geocoinsfor my kids. I have nothing to trade as far as coins go but contact me and I will do my best to work something out. I think it would be great to have a coin from the year goecaching started for us.
  10. I also have the Legand as well as a 60 CS. The differance between the two is night and day. With the Legand having the minimum amount of features and the 60CS being the top of the line. The cost is a lot but the auto-routing is definately worth the extra money. This would require City Select software to auto-route. Another big plus is the compass. This is another feature that has to be one of my favorites. The Legand is a good unit. I keep mine for a back up. The 60 CS is a geocachers multi tool. It has everything you need. The first week I had mine I spent most of my time wondering how I ever got along without most of these extra features.
  11. Check out Nebraska Witch Hunt. This one is a pretty easy find but I believe its what else you see when you get there that makes this cache worth doing.
  12. I live in central Nebraska and could help with placement of this cache also. I believe this would be quite an accomplishment to complete a cache like this. If there is anything I can do let me know.
  13. I recently placed one of these types of caches called DLD Cache in my area. My thinking at the time was to help get a few caches in the area. It has worked out pretty well and some of them are not close so it can be used as an excuse to go somewhere new. My kids usually don’t care for micro caches but they do enjoy finding one that they helped put together a few months ago.
  14. Is it ethical to gather up travel bugs in an area to place them in a cache that sees little activity? I have seen this happen before with these so called “travel bug jails” but is it right to do this in a cache that is accessible but a bit off the beaten path?
  15. I started geocaching about a year and a half ago with an Etrex Legend. Since the I have upgraded a couple of times to a 60CS, but just starting out I would start with this one again. The cost while not the cheapest unit out there, is still the most unit for your money. Waypoints are downloadable, memory is enough for geocaching, easy to operate, as well as durable. Mine has had a few bumps and now my kids use it. I also have a Geko 101 and cannot download waypoints to this one. For me this is a huge drawback.
  16. I also use GSAK and a 60cs. I export mine from GSAK to Mapsource and then to my 60cs, Vista, and Legand.
  17. I have had the same thoughts about GPS accuracy for caching. I wanted the most accurate reciever I could get but the accuracy of the "finding reciever" means very little if the cache coordinates were aquired with a GPS reciever with "lesser" accuracy. Besides half the time the search in the area where the cache is supposed to be is the most fun.
  18. I have both Vista nd a 60cs. As far as reception goes their is no compairison. I carry the vista as a back up unit. Usually when I grab for it it has lost signal while the 60cs has a good signal. If I position the Vista correctly it will usually regain signal but not quite to the same accuracy as the 60cs. The down side to replacing the vista with a 60cs is the software required for auto routing on the 60cs is different. I am very happy with my 60cs as far as geocaching goes. The auto routing is great. I have thought this a million times, "How did I ever get along without one of these this long". The 60cs won't dissapoint you.
  19. My Legend did the same thing before Garmin replaced it. I did a lot a research into this problem. It seems a ribbon of wire has a faulty connection at the display unit. I have seen a couple of sites on the web about repairing this yourself but I still had warranty. I sent mine to Garmin and had a new unit within a week. In the mean time you can grit your teeth and try this. I discovered if I give my unit a "slight" jolt against the palm of my hand the display woulb correct itself.
  20. I also upgraded from the Etrex to the 60CS. I use the automotive mount as well as the hande bar mount. These will all work together as long as you have the back piece for the 60CS. What I would do with no other mounting systems needed is buy the handlebar mount as this is probablt the least expensive.
  21. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but isn't hand held GPS accuracy better while moving? I am aware of the "calming down" time theory. I have used this myself and it does seem to work. On the other hand I work with a couple of different systems that will guide ag equipment and the accuracy is about twice as good while moving. These systems wor on WAAS also.
  22. I have a 101, Legend, and Vista. I use these for geocaching and find the accuracy of all three very comparable.
