  1. Hi we are off to the Lake District where there are quite a few caches! We will only be there a couple of weeks so would like to do the best ones. Wondered if anyone had any advice, particularly on good circle walks - nice to spend the day out caching knowing you're actually walking back to the car rather than reaching a destination and then having to trek back. We don't mind 5 - 8 mile walks. Would really appreciate some advice from those who live out that way or those who have been there, done that etc. Thanks in advance for any help! 2. OOooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh suddenly it all makes sense! Thanks (both of you) for telling me! I'd not come across one before but yeah you're right - I could end up with a whole clothes line in the end! Interesting signature item...well, when I say 'interesting' I suppose I mean, 'unusual' So glad I asked ....maybe I'll get some sleep now!
  3. Well, we have learnt by trial and error, and we are still learning! When we first started out all we took was the GPS and some print-outs. Now, the first thing our kids do is sort themselves out with a hefty stick - good for poking about in holes, ground testing and nettle swiping. Now we take: GPS Print-outs camera (for victory shots; and of course for any amazing views along the way, but mostly for victory shots!) wet wipes plasters torch batteries mobile phone water picnic lunch if planning to be out caching all day. swaps pen But we are still learning...no doubt we will discover more things we need!!
  4. We are relatively new to caching, but love it. We were really bemused recently to find a cache with a wooden clothes peg in it. Who put that there? Why? Who puts a wooden peg in their pocket and goes geocaching? Admittedly we once went caching and forgot to take any swaps with us so we weren't going to take anything, but then my daughter saw something she really wanted so we put 50p in the cache....we didn't just go through our pockets and say, 'Ohhh here's a peg...we'll use that.' None of us minded at all - the point of geocaching is not really the swaps or goodies inside the cache...although it can be facinating, and the kids love it, but I still wonder sometimes...what was the story behind the peg.
  5. I am willing to be corrected but I think (basing my knowledge on Karate Kid) that it is the place where they do their training and (going for the jackpot here) I think it means, 'a place of enlightenment.'
  6. I just had to google 'Dulcimer' images.... Now I will sleep easy...was getting worried about whether I had one and if it had gone out of tune!
