What kind of agenda was inside this container? Let's face it, today most of the cache containers are nano, micro and small, so is easy to assume that your concerns are targeted to, say... 20% of the caches in a given area? Is it worthy? I can assume that 20% of geocachers wouldn't care about being offended by any agenda they may face in a cache. Now, if you want to talk about doing CITO to a filled bullet... I totally agree!

Either way, I prefer 10 times a container full on "agendas" than a geocacher throwing trash in the woods.

What is this??? Well, since english is not my mother language, some words tend to escape at first reading, so I had the need to read this twice, just to stop blinking of incredulity. My friend, the geocaching community likes to have some nice motivational sentences, like "Cache In, Trash Out", meaning that we should grab all the trash we find in the way to our adventures, discarding it later on any available garbage bin... but the one I love the most is "Leave no trace, except your footprints", most of the time is related to Earthcaches, but may apply to all kind of caches. So much morality...

With every new topic you start (13 in less than a month), I have this feeling that you could learn a lot more from attending an Event, by instance. Please don't get me wrong, but I think that you are trying to learn in the forums, while any experienced geocacher will say that you will need to go out, finding some caches... better than that, finding other geocachers. After all "The Best Finds are Other Geocachers!" Be welcome! PS: You don't need to wait for a new Event in Athens... place one yourself, and the people will come.

If you are talking about iPhone, wait for iOS9, with less than 2Gb will release a lot of storage space.

Usually a GeoTour is a way that corporations, foundations, institutions, etc. have to interact with the geocaching community, profiting from that interaction. On the other side, the community gain access to places where otherwise would not have, like private parks. The question is not only the costs of a GeoTour, but also the revenue for the owners. Of course, a GeoTour is not a good project for a single geocacher, a family or even a local club, but they may have a powertrail, geotrail, whatever instead, almost for free. But if you are responsible for bringing visits to a museum, theme park, etc. maybe you look at the millions of geocachers like a great target... somehow better than paid advertising on papers, billboards, radio or TV.

Project GC may help you with it. It searches on your logs for the "FTF" word. After that you may confirm or not... and make a bookmark.

Taking in good consideration what was said above, you have an easy way to do so. Start to log on any cache. On the bottom you will see all the trackables in your collection on a vertical list. On the left you have all the tracking numbers. Just select all that information... copy and paste on Excel or Word by instance. After that, just delete all the information that you dont want, but the first on every line will be the tracking number.

Yes, I have to agree that a touristic spot makes all the difference. My Aureus, in one of the best known Lisbon streets has 4 years and more than 3400 Founds, being the 6th with more Founds in Portugal.

There is a definition for what you are feeling... and almost everyone of us will feel once or twice during our geocaching time: Burnout. When I saw your “2014 Good Deeds” later last year… that you wanted to hide a new cache every single day of the year, I thought “Worthy to watch… but.” We have 190 Hides (some 30 were given in adoption), placed randomly for the last 7 years. You have around 140… in 5 months!? What you are feeling is totally normal. Sometimes the community does not react the way we expect to, sometimes our expectations were too high, sometimes you get approval, sometimes not. The best way to react against Burnout, is to play only on the measure of ourselves… only until we feel pleasure on it. When we lose pleasure in hiding, searching or both, we stop… for a while. Because don’t believe that anyone can leave the geocaching forever One shining morning, the urge to go out, find an amazing spot/story will hit you… and there you go, forgetting the reason that you stop to play on the first time. We have to play because we love to, not because we need to educate the other geocachers, or to give the example… or anything about everybody else. Just us. I used to think like that also… those that only search for caches, are like parasites… but not any more. I recall a conversation years ago with someone, on one of our weekly gatherings in Lisbon. He ask me to go with him, everytime he run to a new FTF. I said that what I was realy addicted to, was to read a new log on our caches… at that time, he don’t have any placed… yet. Today he wins every ranking… using all sort of ways to achieve what he wants. Lately, he archived many of hes caches, just to publish new ones on the exact spot… doubling the number… more than 1000 now. Many very good, with lots of Favs, but also many PT with almost none interest. Yes… I think that I created a “monster”… but by the end of the day, what every geocacher does, is his one will… not ours. By the way… I’m not a PT fan, but I agree that they contribute to the geocaching the same way that other approaches. Take a rest… or not, the geocaching will continue around, and so the community, waiting for you. The same community that you often complaint about on the topics you create or enter, the community that wish to embrace you without remarks. A community that take so good care of the rarest cache in the world, for 14 years, cannot be so bad.

Como atrás referi, há que separar as duas situações... e acima de tudo, evitar misturá-las na abordagem a casos concretos. Ou seja, aparentemente estamos de acordo que não há qualquer mal em que um geocacher recoloque uma cache que já tenha encontrado, após concordância do owner... sendo que, nesse caso não existe o throwdown. Nunca sugeri que tal seja feito apenas para reclamar um Found. Ou sugeri? Aliás, o facto de recolocarmos uma cache (e na maioria das vezes isso é feito em caches consideradas boas, em termos qualitativos) é algo mais positivo para a comunidade, do que para o owner. E para mim, o geocaching é um jogo de comunidade, essencialmente. Os owners investem o seu tempo, a sua criatividade e os seus recursos em prol dos outros. Raramente obtêm-se qualquer proveito. Agora que estou a viver na Amazónia, muitos amigos disponibilizam-se para recolocar logbooks e por vezes contentores nas nossas caches europeias, enviando-me emails ou escrevendo Notes nas páginas das caches, onde expressam essa disponibilidade. Obviamente, algumas delas já há muito teriam sido arquivadas, se dependessem apenas de mim... a 7000km de distância. Para mim, essa é a essência do geocaching. Preservar o que tem qualidade, quer seja o meio-ambiente, a amizade conquistada, ou uma boa cache. Quando comecei a jogar em 2007, nos nossos perfis, apareciam os Founds, os DNFs e os Hides... não sei por que razão deixaram de aparecer, pela minha parte considero os DNFs extremamente importantes e úteis, especialmente do ponto de vista dos owners. Na nossa conta, vão 215... e alguns deles, mais gratificantes do que muitos Founds.

Não posso concordar com o título deste tópico, principalmente porque contraria as próprias regras. Há que separar duas situações distintas... e acima de tudo, evitar misturá-las na abordagem a situações concretas. Um throwdown é substituir uma cache que não se encontra, apenas para poder reclamar o Found, sem que tenha havido um contato prévio com o owner da cache, nesse sentido. "A throwdown is when a geocacher places a new geocache container when the previous geocache is missing or cannot be found." Quando planeando uma cachada, existirem dúvidas sobre se uma determinada cache esteja realmente no local, contatamos o owner e ele nos solicita (ou autoriza) a sua eventual substituição, não é considerado throwdown. "Geocaches should never be replaced without the permission of the geocache owner..." Ou seja, uma cache pode ser substituída, com a permissão do owner, mas nunca sem ela. Naturalmente que continua a ser responsabilidade do owner, zelar para que não haja duplicação de contentores no local, verificando-o pessoalmente, sempre que possível. O mérito de um Found reclamado por quem substitui uma cache, já pode ser questionável... tanto quanto o de um owner que reclame Found em caches próprias. Ainda que neste caso, possa abrir-se uma exceção, já que é bem frequente, o próprio owner ter dificuldade em encontrar a sua cache, pela natural alteração do esconderijo, após vários Founds. Já os geocachers seguintes (que não tenham feito a substituição), que reclamem o Found, não me parece sensato serem censurados ou penalizados por isso.

As minhas opiniões são da minha exclusiva competência, tal como as suas serão da sua. Os factos a que elas se referem, podem ou não comprovar umas ou outras, tão simples como isso. Não existem opiniões certas e outras erradas, são apenas concordantes ou discordantes. Claro que conheço pessoalmente o Júnior, e através de mensagens mesmo antes da nossa ida a Intervales e também já partilhei com ele esta opinião. É de resto, um fenómeno frequente em pessoas disponíveis como ele, sem dúvida é.

Pessoalmente, o "culto do FTF" passa-me à margem, desde pouco tempo após ter começado a praticar geocaching... considero-o até mesmo, um dos males da atividade. Como exemplo, recordo um episódio passado durante as buscas para uma clustercache na Holanda. Sendo que apenas eu e o meu filho não eramos holandeses, passámos grande parte do dia na companhia dos nossos amigos de Amesterdão e Flevoland em amena cavaqueira e muito saudável geocaching... até à última cache, uma challenge que só poderia ser logada na sequência de todas as que anteriormente tinhamos ajudado a encontrar nesse dia, de 8 tipos diferentes. De repente, dois dos holandeses desapareceram da nossa visão e só voltámos a encontrá-los um pouco mais tarde, enquanto chegávamos perto do GZ, já eles vinham de regresso e um deles ostentava um sorriso de troça. Ora bem, sem que o tivesse pedido, fui apresentado aos dois principais "galgos" de Amesterdão. Claro que nada disto ensombrou um pouco que fosse o jantar em casa do Diafragma e a visita-guiada noturna pela maioria das puzzles da cidade, que lhe pertencem. Nesse mesmo dia, saboreei o pior e o melhor do geocaching. Por um lado, o cada um por si e a competição desmedida, pelo outro a amizade espontânea que este jogo proporciona. É esse segundo, o geocaching com que me identifico, sem dúvida nenhuma. Sendo que o FTF é apenas um conceito e nada mais, ao menos que seja reclamado em condições de igualdade para todos os geocachers. É óbvio que quando a cache ainda não foi publicada, só o owner saberá onde ela está (ou eventuais familiares também geocachers), pelo que qualquer log nessas circunstâncias é considerado como beta-tester (outro conceito). Pode perfeitamente suceder que alguém a encontre por acaso, como por exemplo sucede muitas vezes por muggles (que não raras vezes se tornam geocachers de aí adiante), mas neste caso concreto o log esclarece que o putativo FTFer se deslocou ao GZ na companhia do owner. Por essa razão, loguei uma Note nessa cache usando o perfil de volunteer, acima de tudo com um objetivo pedagógico para o Júnior, que na minha opinião é usado e abusado por muitos geocachers estrangeiros. Mas, também aqui, infelizmente os revisores ficam com opções limitadas no sentido de evitá-lo.
