  1. I am struggling with geocache symbols on the Garmin Montana 610. When I download a Pocket Query and upload it to the 610, all caches are displayed on map of the 610 as Traditional Caches. I am running a Mac with iCaching. Tried all kind of putting and naming Custom Waypoints in the 610 Custom Waypoint file, but have no clue how to solve this. I searched the internet, but no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jan
  2. The zip file of the Pocket Quiry has no Travel Bug data . Downloading the GPX file directly from the GC6C7ZB page, it shows the trackable mark. Ref: (example) GC6C7ZB page. Inventory of GC6C7ZB shows all the trackables. <Groundspeak:travelbugs> <Groundspeak:travelbug id="5199004" ref="TB629RQ"> <Groundspeak:name>BSA</Groundspeak:name> </Groundspeak:travelbug> <Groundspeak:travelbug id="5726662" ref="TB6M0VZ"> <Groundspeak:name>Candy erobert die Welt</Groundspeak:name> </Groundspeak:travelbug> <Groundspeak:travelbug id="6499385" ref="TB7EYYG"> <Groundspeak:name>ILa's Tag</Groundspeak:name> </Groundspeak:travelbug> <Groundspeak:travelbug id="794086" ref="TB19E3K"> <Groundspeak:name>Papa Smurf</Groundspeak:name> </Groundspeak:travelbug> <Groundspeak:travelbug id="5828543" ref="TB6QDWE"> <Groundspeak:name>Travel Bug Nepomuk</Groundspeak:name> </Groundspeak:travelbug> <Groundspeak:travelbug id="6596651" ref="TB7J754"> <Groundspeak:name>The Masked Bandit - Season's Fall Geocoin</Groundspeak:name> </Groundspeak:travelbug> <Groundspeak:travelbug id="6893086" ref="TB7X5KH"> <Groundspeak:name>Red9yo</Groundspeak:name> </Groundspeak:travelbug> </Groundspeak:travelbugs> However, generating the Pocket quiry zip file containg the GPX/LOC file of GC6C7ZB, this does not contain the travelbugs. The file only shows: <Groundspeak:travelbugs /> Please advise Thank you Jan
  3. Help needed I download gpx files from Geocache, put the multiple files in GSAK and export as GPX file and put it my Oregon: \Garmin\GPX folder. Works great. Question: But with the Oregon in Map View, I like to see the GC code behind the cache icon. Where to add what setting in GSAK, when exporting the GPX file? Thanks for help, John Bos
  4. Question: When having a GPX file from geocaching.com, containing multiple cache types, I would like: - to print a Mapsource map, showing the different Icon symbols (Traditional, Multi, etc) with the corresponding GCXXX code - and not the Geocache treasure box with long names. Reason: so I can print a Mapsource map, providing a handy overview of the locations of the various different Icon (Traditional, Multi, etc) and their GC code, like they are perfectly shown on the Oregon 300. But: - importing the GPX file in Mapsource they appear with the Geocache treasure box icon. - selecting all caches in Mapsource and export them to the Oregon, they do not show in the Oregon as caches, but under “Waypoint Manager”. The resulting file is named by the Oregon as “Temp.gpx”. - also the waypoints are not visible on the Oregon Map. However: - when I put GPX file from Geocaching with multiple Traditional, Multi’s, Unknown etc. directly in my Oregon 300 under \Garmin\GPX: - in the Oregon300, the caches become available under “Geocaches”, so that’s great. - it also provides all the Geocache text, hints etc., so that’s great! - also show on the map of the Oregon their respective Icon (Traditional, Multi, etc) and not the Geocache treasure box, something I highly appreciate ! Also OK! - next when I import these caches from the Oregon into Mapsource, again the icons appear in Mapsource as Geocache treasure box and not as specific Icon (Traditional, Multi, etc). Trying to import the Geocache caches from the Oregon in GSAK, trying if their would be would be a solution via GSAK waypoint receiving, I get the GSAK error messages: “Cannot open file "K:\Garmin\Geocache_visits.txt”. I am using: Garmin Oregon 300 Mapsource 6.15.6 GSAK 7.5.1.28 Windows XP Pro SP3 Who can tell me how to get in Mapsource to display form a multiple GPX file the respective Icons (Traditional, Multi, etc), like on my Oregon 300 ??? And not the Geocache treasure box, either with or without vice versa transfer to the Oregon ? Thanks for your help, John
  5. Following the Garmin(UK) response not to having a replacement outer seal for my Garmin Etrex Vista Hcx, I decided to repair it myself. In fact it turned out to be an easy job! - Remove the outer rubber seal from the GPS. - Observe the transparent tape that now becomes visible. Do not remove that tape. - Simply remove the remaining glue from the rubber seal and from the transparent tape with normal fuel and let dry - Put a thin layer of normal transparent silicone kit (DIY shop) on the transparent tape. - Put back in place the outer rubber seal. - Put some rubber bands around the seal to put some pressure on it, while the silicone kit is drying. - Let dry for 24 hours. - And remove the rubber bands.
  6. After having emailed Garmin 2-3 weeks ago ( nor reply ), I called them. Calling them, the reply of Garmin Europe (UK) was: we have no spare parts. Please send us your Garmin and in about 10 days we will send you a new one. I asked them to just send me the outer seal, as I think as Electr. Engineer I can replace the seal. But they insist: we have no spare parts and just replace units received for repair..... Strange policy, however now I understand why todays price of the Garmin Vista Etrex Hcx is still $425-450 ( a year ago >$500. So what will happen if someone has a a defect Garmin Vista Etrex Hcx, after the waranty period is over? One can only guess about the charges by Garmin Europe (UK).
  7. Etrex Vista Hcx Within one year (and 200 caches), the outside seal has come loose! Seems the glue used during production is not meeting the requirements of the normal use of the Etrex Vista Hcx Anyone who has positve experience with a DIY repair? Please let me know. Tnx Jan
  8. Thank you all for the answers! The picture that MtnHermit provided, is the same layout as I now found on my Etrex Vista Hcx! ( Main Menu-Setup-System-Menu-Card Info). Know now I only used 31.6 Mb and still have 936 Mb available.... Jan
  9. I have a Garmin Etrex Vista Hcx with a 1 Gb MicroSd Card. On the SD Card I have loaded map areas of NL, DL and B. Question: How can I check on my Garmin the available free memory on the Micro SD Card? Garmin did not reply to my question. Tnx
