  1. Hi, I need to upgrade my current Garmin GPS purely due to the fact that I can't upload caches to it, I'm fed up with typing the coords in! What's the best value for money GPS out there? Thanks in advance TLHM
  2. Hi, We're of to Las Vegas in a couple of weeks. Last time we went there we didn't have a US map loaded on the 60Csx and although it worked OK we thought that having a US map on it would have made things a little easier. Looking at the Garmin site they sell a US cities map and a TOPO map. I assume the TOPO map would be the better choice......! Any comments, suggestions or recommendations would be welcome. Cheers TLHM
  3. Hi, not been on here for a looooooooooooooong time, so this topic may have already been discussed but has anyone else had any problems with creating pocket queries that never arrive in your email? Cheers TLHM
  4. Ditto.........I stay off the forum for a couple on months and all hell breaks loose again!!! Eckers and Lackers had resigned last time. Who the hell are Mandarin and Graculus? I didn't receive the letter or have the training course!! The reason I don't visit this forum as much as I use to is because I had a slight suspicion that some, not all, but some of you lovely people out there take this 'Geocaching' lark far too seriously, IT'S TUPPERWARE for God's sake!!! And what happened to 'The Hornet' sort of makes my slight suspicion a HUMUNGOUS one. I'll be back in September by which time some other major event should have happened. MAJOR........BOY! I'm taking this too seriously NOW!
  5. Wherever and whenever the next UK Megaevent is TLHM will be there, even if it's a log & leave as per this year. Thanks to the committee and volunteers for the last one and thanks in advance to the committee and volunteers for the next one. Be there or be square. TLHM
  6. Does anyone know when the others, apart from Big Ben, are going to be in the stores? It would be nice to collect all 5 and send them on there way. BTW. Bluewater tell me they are 'sold out'! and Lakeside have about 5 more left. TLHM PS. Just like to say thanks to alfarrow for the tip off. I don't get on the forum as much as I use to so never saw the thread.
  7. Sorry, the OP is misleading they're near me not mine
  8. There's a series of caches just published near me where you have to climb a tree to find a micro. I know climbing trees is something that we've all done at one time or another, usually as children despite being told not to by our parents and this in turn we pass on to our children. I know it sounds like fun but personally I think placing a cache where you have to climb a tree is a little dangerous, broken bones and God forbid worse comes to mind as well as damaging the tree when climbing it especially if it's going to be climbed again and again. Two things, 1. are there other caches out there where you have to a climb tree to find a cache and 2. I'd be interested in your opinions on the subject. Thanks in advance TLHM
  9. 1. Rowdy Yates - I think he was a Drover! 2. No idea 3. Clint Walker - Cheyenne Brodie 4. No idea
  10. I have 6 caches near me that I've unoffically adopted, the owner moved to Bristol in 2003. I have them on my watchlist so I can read the logs etc. and maintain if required. Some recent DNF logs imply that one may have gone missing so I'll probably get it archived and replace with one of my own around the same area. If you're pretty sure, positive, that the owner's gone AWOL then there's no harm in doing what I'm doing. TLHM.
  11. So if that's a clue then I guess his first name is in the clue....so 'Just Hobson'!
  12. Benson - Soap, The Tates Bunter - Lord Peter Wimsey (Ian Carmichael played him in a TV series) Hobson, no idea!
  13. We've just got back from Las Vegas (25th Wedding Anniversary) and while we were out there we did a few caches (not as many as we'd expected to do, we were having too much fun losing our money on the roulette wheel and Texas Hold'em ) Anyway, we noticed how close the caches were, especially the urban ones which were usually micros hidden under street lamps skirts, 528ft apart! One cache we didn't even have to get out of the car for, we drove up beside the street lamp in a car park, opened the car window, lifted the lamp skirt which was on a concrete plinth and Robert's your Mum's sister, the easiest cache we'd ever done, we also did the biggest cache we'd ever done, in the desert.......a 5 gallon drum. I digress.....we were thinking that if you went there, prepared, cache route set out, a proper map etc and if you started at Sun rise and finished at Sun set you could do 100+ caches easily, no problem. Just for info really.....next time we go (next year, got to win my money back )......we're going to test my theory out. Thanks to the careygang for all their tips and advice and for picking up ‘Winston’.
  14. Just bumping this back to the top. I don't know about you lot but I like this thread, such great pics Keep them coming.
  15. I take your point but I don't think 'SEMORDNILAP' is in the dictionary......well! The Cambridge dictionary anyway, don't know about the OED, don't know the type of plane either!
  16. Assuming I've read the question correctly this time No.2 is Casino Royale 2006, not sure if it's in the book or original Casino Royale film.
  17. I know this but can't spell it without looking it up and I don't have an OED at hand cos I'm in Romania. An I guess looking it up online is against the rules, But the word starts Pneu, has 45 odd letters and 19 or 20 syallables and is obviously Greek in origin, the short name is 'Black Lung' which affects miners via long term inhaling of silica or coal dust. If anyone gets this without looking it up I'll be amazed Edited to add.....BTW........good question
  18. Swans on the River Crouch from the now archived 'Hullbridge Bench' Stock Windmill from 'Essex Windmill Series # 3 Stock Tower Mill' View of the River Thames from the tricky and devious 'Ramblers Carefree View'
  19. This brings up an interesting question.....What is Log Book Protocol? I usually go the last available space and add my log because I assume the logs should be in chronological order. If someone misses a page (or back of a page) should those spaces be filled up first? So what's it to be chronological order or log book space? Oh! And another moan............why isn't there spell checking on this bl@@dy thing? It checks for swear words!!!!!!
  20. OH God! I forgot about useless clues. What about cache coords that are miles off and have obviously been calculated using a compass, plumb bob and measuring tape.
  21. OK, it's been long enough...........Shane by Jack Schaefer Final DING to TLHM Me AGAIN!!!!! It can't be....... Who played Shane in the 1953 film of the same name?
  22. Not sure I understand how we'd benefit by having 75% of the postings on this forum pinned......... I can see just one benefit............for my boss............ if it made the UK forum look like the Arabian Peninsula forum..........I'd be able to get some work done
