  1. Sounds like you are having fun already! Welcome to the outdoors.
  2. There were no DARPA balloons in NYC. Here's a link to the map where the balloons were placed. MIT won the challenge. DARPA balloon challenge

Been using the yellow eTrex for my past 388 out of 400 finds (first five without GPS, next seven with a borrowed unit). I enter the caches manually and have maxed out a few times lately. Time to dump some found caches. I don't have/use a cable to transfer the cache info to the eTrex.
  4. Sounds like a great program in Cattaraugus County. Had to look on the map to see where Little Valley is. Been through Great Valley and Salamanca, Ellicottville, etc., via Route 219. Might have to convince the spouse that this would be a fun trip. Thanks for the information!
  5. For those of you who have been scrambling to finish your ten county Allegheny GeoTrail caches for coins, the program has been extended until June 30, 2010. I just got my Clarion County coin today; Jefferson County office was out of coins, will have to go back for that one.
  6. I still use the Garmin little yellow eTrex that I received for my birthday back in 2003. No bells or whistles, no color or maps. But, along with my magnetic compass, it still gets me to within 15-20 feet of the cache. I've logged over 380 caches so far.
  7. Showers are for wusses Tough decision this year, our club century ride is that Saturday instead of the usual Sunday. arrrrgggghhhhhhh I've done a couple of those. And I do like the idea of a CAMAFLAGE!
  8. Make sure you post a note on the cache page about the book. The book's owner may be watching the page.
  9. The same could be said of SOME of the cachers at the 2007 MidWest GeoBash. The workers had just placed a new sign at one of the entrances of the fairgrounds before the event. When we went to find a cache placed near the sign, we noticed that cachers had left signatures and rubber stamp images all over the uprights of the post. No wonder they will not be having the event at the same place in 2009.
  10. I would like to suggest GCMT23 Size Matters to The Elves. It is not in Allison Park but in Sewickly Heights. I will be in Allison Park on April 16th, but I will be in a busload of ladies. I don't think the driver will stop for caches, though; his (our) destination is The Quilt Company on Middle Road.
  11. I don't recall. The m130 battery died a very quick death and I cannot retrieve any information from it.
  12. That is exactly what I want to know. Cachemate is in the cue to be loaded into the Palm, but it doesn't happen when I hotsync. It still sits in the cue. I use Windows XP and I don't have GSAK.
  13. Lot of lookers but no helpers. Anyone?? Hey, what happened to my original post???? Well, as I had originally posted, I used to have a Palm m130 with Cachemate. It died and I had no PDA until last fall when I got a Palm T|X. I have Cachemate loaded in the cue to transfer to my T|X, but it won't transfer when I hotsync. Are there any suggestions on what I can do to get it on my PDA? Thanks.
  14. I agree about the available map sizes being useless. I still don't understand why we have to fiddle with the printable page when we didn't have to fiddle with it previously. And, please bring back the .pdf page!!!!
  15. Welcome to the fun. After six years (has it been that long already?), I'm still finding caches with my little yellow eTrex. This activity is most fun when you have other cachers along, I find. My husband and son come along reluctantly, but they end up finding the caches before I do.
  16. Thank you, ras_oscar! That worked just fine for me!! I didn't know the triangle was clickable. Previously, I would instruct the printer to print only one page, thereby omitting the map. Now, I will print the map on the back of the cache page, only if needed!
  17. But why do I have to do that to get all the information on the cache page? I should be able to click on print and get all I need. It was that way before; so, why must I twiddle the page before getting all I need now??
  18. I carry a Leatherman Micra in my purse and in my caching bag. Very handy item!
  19. The missing coordinates (and cache name and D/T, etc.) were the reason I printed the .pdf file of the cache page instead of the currently available page. If I needed the map, I could print it separately. Many times I could print one map for multiple caches. Don't always need one map per cache, Groundspeak! I do hope someone at headquarters is taking note of this.
  20. I have been having the same difficulty. It all started when they made changes to the cache pages and eliminated the .pdf file print option. I hand write the coords on the cache print-out now. It is a bit annoying especially when I am in a hurry to leave. Anyone have any suggestions to fix this problem?
