  1. They tend to get bored and move on when nobody pays them any attention, which unfortunately is the opposite of what is going on here. I didn't necessarily come on here to talk about my cache. No links to it. I wanted to talk about cache pirates in general. Since I'm of the opinion that it's not about me, I doubt this pirate's stalking me or my posts, especially since I can go year or more between posts. Also, I'm not outraged, ranting, or any number of things that feed trolls and, I suspect, pirates. I believe this is just a lazy opportunist who is just targeting this cache. Of course, he could be attacking many of the surrounding caches and if the cache owners share the majority verbal opinion here, I might never find out about it. That's not to say the majority is wrong; my stance in Real Life is that secrets and silence never solve anything... but I will admit that they can be soothing.
  2. The Good News is, there were two trackables that were missing out of this cache, but when I went to mark them as missing, there was only one. I'm thinking someone had taking one of them and forgot to log the find, but that they did log it when they placed it elsewhere. The Bad News is, I don't recall the name of the previously missing Trackable/Travel Bug, so this is only a theory. I tried sorting it out on the trackables history page, but nothing seemed to match up quite right.
  3. I found Raven #5 when I was cleaning up the litter around the cache site. I think it was obviously thrown so it wouldn't be found, but it was also in some papers so the pirate might have overlooked it. I logged it, of course, that day. And I have placed it in my new cache. But thank you, I didn't know I could log a trackable as missing. The idea of a PMO is new to me and I'll think about it. I'm not sure how I feel about creating a cache that I myself wouldn't be able to find.
  4. I looked at that cache, and have to wonder why, with that large woods nearby, you chose to hide this so near the buildings? Is the apparently empty space actually used for multi or mystery caches? At least make the scurvy swabby work a bit for his fun! When I first planted the cache, there wasn't a cell tower or a bunch of maintenance buildings within spitting distance. I had entered at the gardens and walked what seemed like miles. Later, when things expanded and the civilized world was closer, I kept it where it was because 1) I really liked the four trees that guarded the cache and 2)it was nice to have an easy cache for families.
  5. So... I've had my first cache (it's several years old) dumped out and exposed several times in the last month or so. There was even a card announcing, "I am not a MUGGLE, I'm a Cache Pirate... and your cache has been HORNSWAGGLED." Okaaaay... but I tried moving the cache anyway... didn't help. My other cache is unmolested so I am assuming it's the pirate's easy access to this cache and not any vandetta against me, so I am deactivating the cache. I hate to cowtow to bullying like this, but I don't want to send peeps bushwachking only to find a sopping mess when they get there. So, has anyone else had these experiences? How prevalient is this?
  6. I'm bored with simply refreshing the screen over and over again... what do the more experienced geocachers do to keep themselves distracted while the cache approval wizard disembowels chickens scrying for signs and potents?
  7. Wow! Hey, I was just writing a story based on that very idea... do you have a link to a news article or the ruling? This Horse Writes
  8. quote:Originally posted by BrianSnat:Oddly enough, I read in the Star Ledger yesterday that the total rainfall for May has been slightly below average this year. I guess that we usually have fewer rainy days, but when it does rain, it rains harder. Not sure what else could explain this. I can certainly remember a dozen days this "spring" where I was like: "The rain looks like its about to stop." & of course it wouldn't. Or my lovely wife would complain that it hadn't rained enough to wash the yellow stuff from her car. Has some volcano exploded somewhere w/o me noticing? This Horse Writes
  9. The thing was back again this morning. I could not resist urge to run into woods. I am so ashamed to have paniced like that... I was luckily only about a mile deep when the sky went back to normal... This Horse Writes
  10. Geez... what is that... that... bright ball of fire in the sky? It's almost familiar, yet frightening at the same time. Must resist urge... to run into woods... This Horse Writes
  11. Of course, on the other hand... all twelve finds have been posted since 4/15 and involve non-committal responses. "Nice Park." "Nice Cache" Nice Park and Cache." If it was Dr. Who, he took our "advice" about repeating info from other uses or saying he took things still left in the cache. It just might be catch-up... but there's three themed caches involving turtles. If it were me playing catch-up, I think I'd write the themed caches down in blocks at one time. But that's just me. 12. Well, I got myself a big ole can of Deep Woods OFF! I'm hoping that it'll be pretty effective in getting close to the ALLAIRE ELECTRIC CACHE. That thing's guarded by hundreds of them. It's gotta be more effective than beating the bushes with a stick before stepping forward. I'm hoping, at least. This Horse Writes
  13. Ummm... why don't you ask whomever left the WGs in there to check to see if anyone's logged them yet. But, besides that, I do not understand exactly your concern. We all know anything we put in the cache is pretty much gone with the wind. Vandals, Mother Nature, or even cache hunters who don't post. I DO understand why everyone was concerned about Dr, Who logging imagineary cache finds and how the log books collectively proved he wasn't there/anywhere at all. I don't know the magician, but let me point out that if he had taken the WGs it still wouldn't be theft. If there's a rule that I'm unaware of that says you must swap equal money in and out of caches, then I'm afraid I'm in violation, too. The Where's George site's FAQ states that swapping bills in order to increase your count is a NO-NO, so I spend the bills when I take them. If I had a WG stamper, I might do more, but I don't. Just be glad the cache was still there and in one piece. In this case, the log book proves very little and we've enough solid ammo to these this guy with. We don't need to turn anything into a witch hunt This Horse Writes
  14. What is it about ticks, anyway? They drink your blood until they are full, fall off, and then die. Where does that fit into their life cycle? They have to eat something before they get big enough to bite thru your skin and I know they start off mite sized. Why isn't that enough for the rest of their lives? Is it spite that they bite you and never let go? Or are they just reincarnated lawyers? I mean, I understand why a mosquito bites... it's only the female ones and its for fertilizations if I rememember correctly. I know I could look this info up, but I've seen enough ticks this weekend. *nods* I now bring this little scraper with me and tuck in my pants as I bushwhack. I've noticed that when I touch them with my fingers they seem to try to dig into my pants, but when the scraper goes near them, they fling themselves off. I don't know if that'll help anyone with them, but it really did work well This Horse Writes
  15. quote:Originally posted by BrianSnat:You can make it a video/CD/book cache themed cache. But still, nature will take its course. Many of us just download waypoints and don't look at the cache page, so we have no idea what the theme of a cache might be when we get there. That had never occurred to me. Most of my caching tends to be one cache at a time, because it's like the only exercise I get, other than raking my yard or reloading the printer with paper. And I wouldn't know how to download multiple waypoints. I think I'll just let nature take its course then. Still, it was very quickly approved! I didn't expect overnight This Horse Writes
  16. Today, I hid my first cache. Well, not exactly my first, I've help Valkyrie hide a few previously. I had hoped my first cache would be a bookcrossing.com cache, but the container I got for THAT purpose was like 3 gallons. It didn't look huge on the shelf at Lowe's, but three gallons is darn huge thing to try to hide under a few sticks and pine needles. Well, maybe someday I'll find a good spot for it. In the meantime, I have a general purpose cache with one book, one deck of cards, one video, and one CD. Do you think I might be too much of a control freak if I asked geocachers to only take a video/cd/book if they leave a video/cd/book so that there's alway's one of each in the cache? Or should I just let nature take its course This Horse Writes
  17. Oh, I was thinking in terms of places I could apply for a job, a job fair, or maybe a guest lecturer at a nearby university... that sort of thing. Heh. Maybe I need to lighten u a bit. This Horse Writes
  18. quote:Originally posted by etoast66:Here is a http://img.Groundspeak.com/cache/log/display/685597_500.jpg of a sign near the Boone Town Falls cache. Non-residents are supposed to get permits to use the park. Hah! I am a resident of New Jersey. I am a resident of the United States. I am a resident of the World. Which residency is Boontown trying to exclude, exaclty? I am supposed to live in the park? Heh. What a great protest that would make. Hey... if the cop who tries to ticket me lives outa town, can I ticket him in return? Or will he wait patiently outside of the park? You know... there's no law that says you have to present ID. And no law that says you have to incriminate yourself (although there is a kind of compulsory system when blanket immunity has been issued, but that's another rant). By the way, there are signs in Jersey City that say "BOOM BOXES ARE ILLEGAL." The signs lie. The actually law refers to decibles and hours. Politicians trying to score points thru obsifiscation... there oughta be a law.. This Horse Writes

  20. quote:Originally posted by C-4:OK i know i am new to all of this, but could someone explane to me, why you would take a tb out of a cache and put it back in, on the same day as per tb log, the one i have seen this happen to is, the "Brainbug" that i placed in GCG08G ????????? I did just that recently but only because I had entered the Travel bug before the owner of the Travel Bug had a chance to log the Travel bug to the site. That meant there'd be no travel mileage on it when I dropped it off eventually. So... I logged it as a find. Logged it to the site again. Logged it as a find again, so no one went looking for a Travel Bug that was no longer there. The good news is... It only "counted" as one find. So, no worries about anyone jacking up their count with this method This Horse Writes
  21. If he's traveling cross-country, you might want to ask people to take his picture as he travels from place to place. That could prove interesting. This Horse Writes
  22. Heh. I have the Book, RINGWORLD THRONE. Just north of Trenton, is a cache for Spherical like objects. Well, a ring is very much like the sphere... in that it's round. So, I want to leave the book in that cache, since I've got that bookcrossing.com habit. The thing is... I really need a good reason to travel across the state. Or at least a valid excuse. Any thoughts? -Greyflank currently unemployed and frightened by gas prices. This Horse Writes
  23. I'm just grateful no one's doing this by placing FALSE caches. THAT would be really annoying. This Horse Writes
  24. quote:Originally posted by Geoman007:If you go just north of Trenton, there is a park with seven caches in it. It would make a great day for caching. I have just replaced the container to this cachehttp://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=4519 It will definately hold a book. Hmmm... **looks to see if he has any spherical books** Sounds like a plan... if I can just find the right book for it! OOO! I know... RINGWORLD THRONE. **nods** I should be finished with that in about a week or so! This Horse Write [This message was edited by Greyflank on April 25, 2003 at 07:13 PM.]
