I remember there was also an issue with the map screen and DirectRoute: Before turning your unit off, you should switch to a different screen than the map screen. And after turning it on you should wait for a lock before switching the screens. The Meridian Yahoo Group has more info. Cornix Edit: found the posting: Meriplat/v.5.35 Way Too Sloooowww

Here's some info on Almanac and Ephemeris data (TTFF means Time To First Fix): I've heard rumors that the latest versions of the Magellan firmware have a bug that deletes the almanac under certain circumstances. In this case the unit needs a 'factory start' that may take 15 minutes. My recommendation is: if yo don't use MapSend DirectRoute and experience these problems go back to a more stable firmware version (for example 4.06 or the marine version). Cornix

You can change that in the settings for the map screen: - go to map screen - press Setup button - choose 'Map Setup' - press Right button (Display settings) - select 'Pos-Dest Line' - deselect 'Depart-Dest Line' Cornix

The current firmware for the SporTrak Pro (V5.34) is now over a year old. Though it has some well known bugs, Magellan didn't come up with a new version. Cornix

Looking For Gps W/ability To Use Preloaded Quads
Cornix replied to Archaeologist-PA's topic in GPS technology and devices
If you own a PocketPC you can try this product: Prosurv Pocket Quads. Cornix -
With Magellan MapSend you can select which POI categories ('clutter') are uploaded to your GPSr. I don't know whether Garmin MapSource has a similar feature. Cornix

If you resubmit your pocket query (without changing it) it's run immediately. Just go to the query definition page, select the current day (Days to Generate) and press the "Submit Information" button. Cornix

Only 200 Descriptions On Sportrak Color?
Cornix replied to Cheminer Will's topic in GPS technology and devices
200 waypoint descriptions is the limit. There's also a memory collision with street routes but not with maps. Read this thread for more information: Gsak And Magellan Waypoint Problem Cornix -
You mean something like this? http://www.geocaching.com/map/wa.asp

No idea. I found it on this website: MSH GPS Tools. Cornix

I was the last one who tried to find this cache. That site is usually very crowded (except maybe in winter, when the cache was placed). Unfortunately there was also a boy scout meeting (Normandy Spring Camporee) nearby with more than 3000 participants. The cache is hidden near a monument and an old gun, where lots of people want to take pictures. The problem is that if you don't know exactly where it's hidden, you have no time to look carefully (or dig in the sand) without being disturbed by muggels. Maybe a spoiler photo would help. Cornix

Are you talking about the 5th item in the last row? It means "valley". Cornix

MapCenter provides free maps for Garmin units. Here's a link to the Brazil section. Cornix

You can use GPSBabel to convert your routes to Magellan format. Look for the saroute and simplify options in the readme file. Cornix

You can do it manually with a text editor (for example Windows Notepad). XML files are normal textfiles. Just copy everything from the first <wpt ...> tag to the last </wpt> tag of file A and insert it between the </wpt> </gpx> tags at the end of file B. Cornix

I read about them in a Panasonic camera review but their numbers were not quite as good: Cornix

For certain Magellan and SporTrak models there's a Marine firmware version (vT4.50 / vT4.51) available that is more stable than the Standard firmware (v5.xx) but doesn't support street routing. See this table for an overview: GPS Receiver Firmware (Software) Updates So if you have problems and don't need routing give the marine firmware a try. Cornix

MapSend DirectRoute Europe covers Italy and contains POIs for all of these categories. The older MapSend Streets Europe only lists railway stations and airports. Cornix

Will New Explorist Be Nema Compatible?
Cornix replied to D0T-C0M's topic in GPS technology and devices
The high end models (60 C/CS, 76 C/CS) have both USB and serial ports and support NMEA. The new Vista C and Legend C only have USB. However there seems to be a solution: Cornix -
Found this in a 2001 thread: So it's certainly not new. Cornix

That's funny. Your name has the same root (wal/wel). It means Romanic/French (speaking) and 'not Germanic' in a wider sense. So Valais, Wallis, Wallonie, Wales are simply names for regions where non-Germanic tribes were living. Cornix Addendum: this article may be of interest for you WHAT'S IN A NAME Are you called WALLACE? Variations: Wallis, Walsh, Welch etc. http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/DBY/Names...al/Wallace.html
