It's simple: you'll become the manager of the "Devil Strip Signs" sub-category of the "Signs" category. All people finding a new Devil Strip sign can create a new waymark for that sign in your category. Those who visit that waymark afterwards can post a 'visited it' log.

Looks like your E-mail address is only visible to yourself. See this thread: Email In The Clear On The Profile.
It's nevertheless annoying: I've changed my address immediately after seeing it 'exposed' an had to re-validate my account.

Your cache as such will not be converted, except maybe for the cache description.
What you get is a new empty category ('airports') to manage. Former loggers of your AV8R cache will be informed so they can re-create their finds as waymarks if they want.
No data from geocaching.com will be migrated over to Waymarking.com. Any new waymark category will start fresh. However, we will do our best to inform previous locationless cache loggers so they can apply their log to the new Waymarking site.Cornix

I just saw some waymark descriptions in French. I have no problems with that, but as this a new site and a worldwide activity it would be great to have more (optional) input fields for descriptions in local languages other than English.
For example:
- Short Description (English):
- Long Description (English):
- Local Language 1: (dropdown box)
- Short Description (Local Language 1):
- Long Description (Local Language 1):
- Local Language 2: (dropdown box)
- Short Description (Local Language 2):
- Long Description (Local Language 2):
This would make it possible to filter for waypoint descriptions in languages you can read.

How is this a replacement for virts?
I just don't get it.
It's a 4 level concept:
- main categories
- subcategories (= locationless caches)
- waymarks (= virtual caches)
- logs
The manager of a subcategory (for example 'Lighthouses') is responsible for approving new waymarks ('The old Lighthouse at Land's End') in their domain. The owner of a waymark can control the logs of visitors to that waymark. So I guess it's up to them to ask for some kind of proof.

Cacheless caches fit two main catagories.
"Using something existing in the envronment"
...
Can you give an example of that category? I've never seen this type of lc.

There's already a locationless cache with this theme: What a ZOO!
So I guess the owner of this cache is asked first.

Let's say I create a category of Goldmines.
Then anybody can add a new goldmine or log the already existing goldmine under this category.
Did I get this correctly?
I guess that's right. But by adding a new goldmine (waymark) you are in fact creating a new 'virtual cache' that you are responsible for. You have to deal with the category owner who must 'approve' your waymark and you have to check the logs of the visitors if they met the requirements.
That sounds like a lot of work for such a simple task.

The big question is: what happens to the locationless logs?
As I unterstand it a locationless cache is equivalent to a category. But a category can't be logged directly. You have to create a waymark (= virtual cache) inside that category first so others can log that waymark.
But what if I'm not interested in creating and maintaining a waymark but only in logging a find (of a not yet existing) waymark?

Just wondering why there is no DNF log type on a locationless? There have been several times when I've been really close to finding a locationless, but for whatever reason, didn't quite manage to meet the criteria ...
You mean something like this?

You don't have to hide a cache there. All you need is a picture of you with your GPSr in front of the city road sign: Sisters.

If the new location is not far away from the old one you can change the coordinates yourself.

This topic was brought up in the German speaking forum:
Is it possible to add more 'stop words' to the smart name algorithm, for example the German or French articles (der/die/das, le/la/les)? On the other hand 'die' could be omitted in German but perhaps not in English.
So a better solution would be to have a user editable stop word list.

You can use the same tags (in square brackets) as here in the forum.
For example
Geocaching
gives Geocaching.

How does a cache get logged (FIVE times yet!) before it is even published by the approver?
Here's the answer: New Log Order Issue Related To "published".

I definitely saw something about some cards not being supported. I wish I could find the document!
It's mentioned in the old Magellan Meridian FAQ by Robert Lipe:
Currently, cards are available from many sources with capacities ranging from 8MB to 512MB. All cards 256MB and under are known to work extremely well, and Magellan has stated that 512MB cards are now supported. Magellan sells SD cards, but their cards are approximately twice as expensive as other brands, and offer no performance advantage. Avoid them unless you can get them at a significant discount.Problems have been reported with SanDisk cards of 256-512 MB. Certain of these cards do not work in the Meridian, although they work with other devices. Magellan is reported to be working on a fix (which may be included in the firmware v4.51 or later).

I used a 66X Sandisk Ultra II card and compared it against a regular card.
Honestly, there isn't much speed difference between the two. The 66X was a little faster, but not fast enough to warrant spending too much money on it.
There is no difference in the reading speed between regular and fast Sandisk cards (8.5 MB/sec). However the Ultra II cards are about 4 times faster in writing data (5.7 MB/sec vs 1.5 MB/sec).
The writing speed pays off in digicams which can shoot faster with such a card.

I just looked at the source code of a random cache page. There's a form tag and an input tag before the html tag:
<form name="Form1" method="post" action="cache_details.aspx?guid=..." id="Form1"> <input type="hidden" name="__VIEWSTATE" value="..." /> <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <HEAD>
Is this allowed under stricter rules?

It's very hard to get a virtual cache approved at the moment.
On how to insert a picture into your cache page, see this thread.

Typically with Garmin the "C" stands for "Compass", ...
I always thought the "C" stands for "Color" ...

If you were able to do that then you can reverse engineer the waypoint files, to find out how they are made, ...
I proposed something similar in this thread: Cobra Gps 1000 Interface?, downloads waypoint?
Maybe webbyz can try this out.

I think this is a bad idea. If something is worth Waymarking it shouldn't be archived if it still exists.
The "Dash for Cache" locationless had some interesting tasks. But I don't like the time restriction, it's unnecessary.
