  1. I hope they don't get a new plate every time they miss one...
  2. Ah, that's right. I doubt any connection either... I was just throwing it out there. Back to the topic, I'm a little disturbed by the possible problems this little unit may cause, but I'm sure I'll get over it. The ALR issue bothered me, but it's old news already.
  3. If someone is willing to buy the update kit and keep their 'mate updated then they will probably become responsible geocachers somewhere along the way. My fear is that most purchasers won't ever see a cache description page. A description that reads something like "Land to the West of this cache is private property. Approach only from the given parking coordinates" might be helpful, but will never be seen. Or "The land owner has requested that this cache only be visited during daylight hours". Hmmmm.... Since the users of this device would not be able to read cache descriptions, they would never know about ALRs. I'm not suggesting a connection, but the timing is interesting.
  4. Until Groundspeak implements that third classification (which was the default option until two days ago), all my caches are now Premium Members Only. Apologies to Regular Members, but Groundspeak has just lumped you in with people who can't even be bothered to visit the website, where they might learn about how geocaching works. Even if you change all of your existing caches to PMO, if they are already in the unit, your problem isn't solved. I am almost tempted to move my hides 100 feet and change the coords on GC...

  7. Finally received a nice package from Geohunt. A camoed L&L container with some cool Essex, England themed swag items and Britan geocoin and a Northern Ireland geocoin. I would post some pics if my camera hadn't gone missing a while ago. Thanks, GeoHunt!
  8. Oh, oh, OH! I really like this coin. Great job!
  9. Since you are not required to find the decoy to find the cache, this is a traditional. As for the cache owner, I have nothing to add to the advice you've already been given other than to be sure to return the favor of log deletions if he should ever find one of your caches.
  10. Traditional. If you have to make it an unknown type, then make sure the description is of no help to finding the cache... just like a normal traditional cache description usually is.
  11. The best that I could find is a cache in Cashton here in Wisconsin.
  12. If you know it's still not taken care of, then you must have stopped back to check. It appears that you're "checking up" on the cache owner. That would earn the tag of cache cop... If you want to take the trouble to check up on a cache you've already found, perhaps you could bring along what's needed to fix up the cache... Did I spell everything correctly?
  13. It is, at times, hard to guage the seriousness of a Vinny post, but this is bizarre. A chance to be part of a GS endorsed documentary, possibly on a "major" network, and someone doesn't want to put down a few bucks for membership to GC? I would look for some new victims volunteers.
  14. We usually end up having an FTF party in the woods in the middle of the night. At one or two caches last summer, I was going to post an "Attended" log. There are some local cachers who gripe a bit, but when I look back at their logs from before we started, these same cachers were getting the FTFs. I'm more likely to try for FTF on a good puzzle than a traditional lately.
  15. I would have to say that GC1ADHY was our most memorable FTF. It was a 4* puzzle by CCCooper Agency and it was 735 miles from home. GC1G6D2 is a close second. Only 80 miles away, and I got to to team up with a couple of cachers who have since become good friends.
  16. Only once or twice a week, and I think his quota is used up for this week.
  17. All the more reason to start searching! We've never met any cachers who were less than social. Most have been very happy to meet other cachers and some have become good friends. Only once has another cacher approached as we made a find and didn't want to claim it as a find because they now knew where the cache was hidden. We thought it was kind of silly, but to each his own... Jeez... It was an ammo box under a foot bridge. I'm pretty sure they would have found it. We mistook a couple of muggles for cachers once, but that's a different story. Never met a Vinny at a cache site, either. They seem to be pretty rare.
  18. Well, then neither are Earth Caches... Should they go away?
  19. Don't forget about the workload of the website developers. There are many other more worthwhile functions, additions and improvments to GC that they are spending their time on. While everyone knows that reviewers probably have quite a workload, I have yet to hear one of them complain. Besides, reviewers are cheap labor. If things get too busy, just add another reviewer. I also don't see how this feature would have saved the OP from having to go back to the site to move the cache. Note to reviewers: I, in no way, think reviewers are cheap as in miserly, penny-pinching or stingy. Just cheap as in low cost to GC.
  20. I don't know, but now the pics show up for me. They didn't a few minutes ago... Don't need no giant kids, thanks.
