  1. well to start things off i talked my wife into buying me a gps for Christmas so i could use it for ice fishing and record my good fishing spots on the lakes.. used it a few times and thought this thing sux and through it in the conner of my closet and thought id never use it again... hearing the " you just had to have that dadgum thing" twice a month ... i opened my buckeye rual electric magazine that i get every month to see a topic on something called geocaching treasure hunt and had a picture of a gpsr and i ignored the topic and finally read the whole magazine and finally started on the geocaching topic and read the whole thing with interest.. showed it to my family and thought man i could actually use my gps.... logged online and loading my gps and ever since i have been using my etrex legend like a pro !!! lol
  2. Perhaps I am reading more into this than I should but at first I read that he contacted you and said he liked your cache but then later I read that he asked you how you got permission. Have you considered that he didn't like your answer for how you got permission and didn't want to associate himself with it? Did you check to see how active of a cacher he is? If he's logging a lot of caches and logging onto GC.com regularly, but not responding to your email, my guess is that he's got some issue with what you told him. Of course, this puts you in a bit of a pickle because you really have no way of knowing if he won't tell you. Overall, it's probably not worth worrying about if you got adequate permission. In fact, I find that the less you worry about what other folks do or don't do, the more enjoyable the game is. the only thing i said to him was that i called the parks office and asked if i could place a geocache and they said sure... he was asking cause its a state park
  3. i can see why someone would not log a find on the net but if they have an account and log all kinds of recent finds in the area.. and not mine.. lol im for sure gonna place another hide in the area now !!! lol i even just bought a new lock-n-lock at wally world just need to visit the dollar store for a new log book and some camo tape!!!! hehehe that guy has got me so mad im gonna hide another for him to to log in!!!
  4. i recently introduced my brother-in-law to geocaching and he is wanting to get into the sport.. he tells me he has a hand held gps and he pulls out this huge gps... looks brand new in the box. his buddy gave it to him a couple years ago... im going to read up on the manual and show him how to load cords and use it for geocaching but wanted to find out from others that know about this unit.. is it a nice unit??? it seems to take a very long time to load the satellites.. allot longer then my legend .. does this unit work under tree coverage and how accurate is this unit??
  5. i recently had a guy email me and ask me about my cache and noted that he liked it allot.. but never logged the find on the net... he has an account so he could have logged it.. so i emailed him a few times suggesting that he log it in.. and he wont reply to me.. i was in the area with a t.b. and geo coin so i dropped them off at my cache.. and he did sign the log book.. why would someone sign the log book and not log it found on the cache page if they have an account??? it really bothers me that someone would not log it found, especially after he emailed me saying he loved it. and asking how i got permission... i guess i shouldn't let it bother me so much and just place another cache

    S.E.OHIO ?

why am i seeing all of these groups for other parts of the states and not south eastern Ohio???? never any events around my area... we have one meet and greet coming up and its on a Tuesday??? how crazy is that.. i work 2nd shift so i cant goto that... i just think its odd that SE OHIO has no groups or events???? id hold an event but i wouldn't know what to do for an event... i might hold one if i could goto one and see what all goes on....
  12. where can you get a penny smasher at?? ebay dont have any.... and if they dont have any i dont know where to turn ... lol

    TB

yea i wish i would have read this a week ago ... i found a tb in a cache that wasn't listed... and there are about 3-5 other tb,s listed in caches in the area that are missing so i figured it was a missing one and grabbed it from another user before he could log it.. and he was kinda mad at me... im a newbie and thats the worst that i have done so far.... i guess i learn from my mistakes
  14. my cache is a regular old cache and the park people didnt care what type of cache it was....
  15. i have a cache hidden at LAKE ALMA STATE PARK in SE OHIO and i called the park office and they didnt care that i placed it in the park didn't ask any questions about container type of where i was hiding it.. they were happy to attract travelers and said that the park has many letterbox hides as well... so it seams that the ODNR doesn't stop geocaching in their parks... you just have to talk to a park employee
  16. here is a pic of the handmade stars i just got done with... i have the geocache emblem on one side and " JARVIS 07" on the other side ... i think i really like the wood stained one and will make more of them i will probably be dropping all of these off tomorrow on my labor day run to the hocking hills area in SE OHIO
  17. i bought some wooden stars from wallmart.. couldnt find disc's ... i started buy painting them ... then i remembered i had a dremel so i have been using my dremel and engraving into the wood then painting them they look really nice...
  18. i have only hidden 2 caches so far and both of them were done the next day... THANKS KEYSTONE...
  19. keystone thanks for the response.. i actually emailed you about this.. lol you have been very helpful with all of the questions i have had thanks...
  20. they are not new to caching... they have alot of finds and hides... this is what they wrote me in email.. hey thanks for letting us know about are cache, but the thing is people get in to big of a rush and don't take the time to put the lid on right but u did and we thank u for that,we looked at a the cache today and decide not to replace anything in it let them sign it wet or not find it at all,if thats how some want to be so be it,people want to slam the rocks back down on it and things like that ,u know how some are and all... they just don't seem to care if anyone looks for their caches ... it just seems like a waste for them to hide junk caches.... i have enjoyed finding them even found new places in my area but i also enjoy making a log and trading swag.. i guess i will email a local publisher that has published most of my local caches....
  21. i have found a couple caches hidden by the same person and they have used a old snack food container and its made of thin plastic and the lid's never stay on good and everyone of these i have found are wet and nasty inside and you cant even sign the log... yesterday i got mad when i found one and i tagged it as needs maintenance and the owner sent me an email saying they are happy that i posted that it needed fixed and that they went and looked at it and it was fine ... it was wet because other cacher's have not put the lid on right.. but i know the plastic container is just junk... is there something that could be done so this owner will replace all of these junk box's??? i know it makes me mad to spend time looking for something thats wet and i can not sign the log... and don't want others to feel this same way... id rather not have a find then to find trash.....
