  1. Since the weather's been crap I've been trying to snag a few "drive up" caches and find my explorist gets a little dizzy when I navigate through parking lots so I've been using north up. Out walking about track up works better for me.
  2. Snow doesn't bother me too much, but if there's a wind chill factor in the forecast I'm not leaving the house lol
  3. When you're new try using the google maps satellite imagery of the cache area to give you a better idea of where to look.
  4. I also use gps tuner, but on my pocket pc (WM6) phone and it works great. You make the maps with their bundled software though. Not that hard.
  5. Anything that can be described as micro would be on my bad list. Around here everything seems to be a micro in a pine tree. Yey.
  6. I placed my waas enabled holux m-1000 BT receiver right on top of a cache and it worked it's way down to 1.2 meters so about 4 feet. Didn't try it with waas disabled but 4 feet is pretty dadgum good
  7. Let me know how it works out for. Especially in the trees. Most of the caches around me are in fairly wooded areas and my current pda/holux combo gets lost sometimes.

    HAMILTON CACHERS!

I know it's not much help, but if the princess auto in hamilton is out, the one here in windsor has ALOT of ammo can's, many different sizes...
  9. Thanks a lot for the input guys! I found an option in GPS tuner that I've been using on my PDA to turn off 3D distance's, so it's no longer adding the altitude differance to my distances that's helped quite a bit, but it's still not the best in the trees. With all the talk of the new garmin hcx gpsr's coming out I think I'm going to wait another month or two and check out the prices then. Thanks again guys, Chris
  10. http://www.streetglo.net/reflective.tape/ 1/10th of an inch up to 2" @ 37.5 feet long rolls, from $7.49 up to $29.95... They also had 3 different sized sheets too. http://www.flighthelmet.com/cgi-bin/shoppe...ectiveTape.html Sells the 1 inch and 2 inch for $2 and $4 per yard. There was also someone on ebay selling the sheet for about a buck each (10 for 9.95)
  11. I'm currently using a holux m-1000 (with the excellent mtk chipset) with my pda/phone, which is very accurate for driving, but it's cumbersome for caching. Also the mtk chipset sucks for walking as it goes to sleep when you stop and doesn't "wake up" until you're moving at a decent pace so it's pretty useless when i start slowing down as i get close. My local walmart dropped their prices a bit and the explorist 210 now goes for $149 while the legend is $165, both in canadian. The reviews I've read are about the same for both, except for Magellan's (lack of) customer service and Garmin's lack of USB port. Is the legend worth the extra $30 after taxes, plus an additional $15-$30 for a USB adapter? And does it have better reception under trees? Thanks, Chris
  12. I'm 26, when I manage to drag her along my room mate is 23.
