You discovered one of the many bugs of the new eTrex models.

eTrex 20/30 software version 2.61 Beta
chris-66 replied to allory's topic in GPS technology and devices
With 2.61 my eTrex20 only freezes in the woods, in the free field it doesn't stick anymore. So 2.61 is an improvement indeed. -
Ever hear of your body causing gps malfunction

Hi, doesn't have the 60csx an option to turn off the magnetic compass and use the GPS compass? Chris -
Sticky issue on Garmin new models.
chris-66 replied to WrongwayUK's topic in GPS technology and devices
This unit has the good old SIRF chip build into it. The sticky issue seems to occur with the cartesio/teseo-2 GPS chips. -
Etrex 10/20/30 -help garmin with this "sticky" issue!
chris-66 replied to ChefRd2000's topic in GPS technology and devices
The teseo-II chip was designed for car navigation. Anyway... I still hope Garmin would be able to fix it. -
Unhappy with my new Etrex 20
chris-66 replied to DancingPossums's topic in GPS technology and devices
You lucky. Maybe Garmin is using different chips on some devices. For me the sticky issue is still present after update to firmware 2.60. -
Garmin dakota 20 - how to delete caches
chris-66 replied to frenchtart's topic in GPS technology and devices
Dunno if it's different, but on my eTrex 20 I have: Settings->System->USB Mode. And USB Mass Mode is default. So I simply connect my device using an USB cable to the computer and see the device storage folders in the "my computer" folder. -
So, they are working on it...
-
It's kind of a coordinate system. Geocaching uses wgs84, so if your device is set to another system the coords are wrong.
-
maybe you should try to set your gps to wgs84.
-
2.50 did not fix the sticky bug on my eTrex 20.
-
I contacted Garmin support because of the sticky issue and they gave the standard solution: do a master reset.
-
That's my favorite map. Mapnik look, Address search working, decent small POI icons and so on.
-
If I remember correctly they are stuck too.
-
If it would be an issue with the teseo II we could wait for a garmin firmware fix forever... By The Way: For the old etrex I think it was possible to update not only the garmin firmware but also the gps firmware.....
-
For a hard/master reset you press and hold 3 keys during startup: Menu, Enter(joystick) and power. Then a message appears : Are you sure to erase all data.
-
Ok, just wrote an email to Philip Mattos concerning the "freezing gps" issue of the Garmin 20/30.
-
Hi, my 20 also had some issues which I could solve by doing a hard reset. Unfortunately it didn't helped on the sticky issue. Chris

I asked Garmin how to reset the total ascent counter on my eTrex 20. They answered I can do it with a master reset....
