  1. Today I got my City Select North America and decided to install on my computer. When I got to the unlocking portion I could not unlock it because I don't have my New Gps from Garmin yet. I really wanted to open the program and play around with it but it won't really let me do anything until I unlock it. I tried to unlock regions but without Garmins 25 digit code I can't. Is this true can I not use the program even just to mess around and get use to it without the unlock code??

  2. I have supported Garmin for a long time but maybe, just maybe it's time to look at something else, just maybe.

What exactly would you look at that can close in choices? I've played with them all, and thee's nothing else I want to even consider!

Ya know I did go out and look at a few Magellans. And I will wait. Magellan just doesn't tickle my fance for some reason. I am sure they are good and there is nothing wrong with them I just didn't like em I guess.

  3. Garmin probably is trying to pull out in front. But right now I personally feel they have failed miserably in getting the new units out. The 60 series was introduced to us back in November with 1st quarter delivery. Ok we still are in the first quarter but why were they not ready for christmas. Gee they do make good gifts. The C has come out and we were all told a week or so behind would be the CS. Well the week or so has come and gone and now I am told that it could be the end of March before the CS will be available. Who knows, maybe the CS has ran into problems that they can't fix. I have supported Garmin for a long time but maybe, just maybe it's time to look at something else, just maybe.

  4. Now, how hard can it be to add a few sensors and some screens?
You could get a 60c and add sensors to it yourself. Might even save yourself some money... <_<

I had a Vista and I used my compass all the time. I don't think I would buy a GPS without the compass. The altimeter is not a big deal.

Here is the reply from the guy on E-bay

"The Garmin rep called me this morning and said due to insufficient supply the 60CS will be delayed for release another month. I'm thinking their OEM manufacturer was unable to produce enough units in a timely manner and Garmin did not want to do a partial release. Please continue to check back on my auctions as when I know the time frame I will place the auctions again.

    Best regards,"

I wonder what Amazon will do as they have been posting March 5th. It's not good news as far as I am concerned.

  5. There was two of the CS's for sale on Ebay. The guy originally guaranteed he would have his on February 27th for shipment. Price wasn't too bad if your in a rush, but now I see he has taken them off Ebay due to the product no longer being available. So that is what it says. I wrote to the guy hoping I will get some kind of answer from him. I wonder what has happened that Garmin has backed these up so much and makes you wonder if this is the unit you want now. I am somwhat ticked as I personally think Garmin should have had these ready for Christmas. Just my thinking and seriously thinking of canceling my CS and getting something else as I am without a GPS right now.

OH and by the way, I think I clicked report instead of "add reply" sorry about that and hope the moderator catches it.

  6. I have a friend that wants a GPS. He wants to spend around $200.00. He is looking at the Vista Legend and the Magellan Sporktrak. He is not impressed with the antenna that the legend has but he is also very concerned about the 1 meg of memory only on the Magellan. He will be using it for traveling and boating. Floats is a must with two 3 year old kids. Any suggestions out there as I am kind of lost.

  7. I personally think they both are good. Not one is any better than the other. I have had a Garmin Etrex-Vista for two years now and love it. I just sold it for a GPSMap60CS. Can't wait for it to get here. But just yesterday a friend came to me with a couple of different options on his first GPS. I am recomending the Magellan. This thread can only lead to a Chevy versus Ford issue and none of you will be right. I say go with what you feel comfortable with and the heck with what other people say. If extra memory is what you want in the SD cards then get the Magellan. For me I have lived with 24 mb of memory for two years and never came close to filling it up. Now I will have over 50 meg and don't think I will ever fill it up. What ever tickles your fancy is what you should go with. The other thing that I found is "Does your wife think your GPS is sexy" then that is the one to go with.

  8. When logging your cache you can click on the little icons to state whether you found it or not. The icons represent that. Go back and edit you cache and you can see the others. You can even just post a note if you wish which would look like a little notepad.

  9. The rules say NO KNIVES! <_<

I'm looking for opinions here.... is there any wiggle room in that rule? :D

    Thanks!

Just what it says, No Knives.

If we wiggle for one then we will be wiggling for others. Keep it simple.

    just my opinion.

If I run across a knive I probably will take it out just to throw away. I would not pass it on. just me thinking that's all

  10. I sent my 2 year old Vista in last summer. They gave me a special price of $50.00 to repair since I had trouble with the screen and this was a common problem of the Vista. But the whole reason I was sending it in was the screen was cracked from me dropping it. They basically replaced the whole thing for the $50.00. Some of the scratches that was on the case even were no longer there. I was told they typically pretty much give you another unit.

  11. Some guys already selling them on Ebay, must be coming soon...

I wrote to the guy that has them on Ebay in regards to when he will have them available.

His response was, I will have them available for shipment on Feb 27th.

I hope he knows something the rest of the world doesn't.

  12. THCRI, you'll have to decide that one....

YMMV, but I sold mine 76s and am willing to wait for the 76cs, twice the memory of the 60CS!!! (I know, I know, it'll be less than a year they'll likely be out with double that or even standard memory cards, but for now, that's 5 times the memory of my 76s and autorouting!)

I know that no matter which one I go with there will be a nicer one coming. The 60CS in itself just proved that. I like the looks of the 60 but I think the 76 is easier to use with one hand. Just my thoughts. The 76 is a marine type unit but looks like it does everything the 60 will do plus have the marine stuff on it.

The Geo-Caching thing isn't a big thing on the 60 as I understand it you just have the ability to click on found and alls it does is opens the little icon. Big deal I can do that myself.

If the 76 would be available first part of April I sure would wait, but I know that won't happen and it could be the end of June.

Man this is tough, a really tough decision. I wonder how many retailers are going to get stuck with the 60cs as people seem to be canceling and re-ordering.

  13. I gotta admit, Garmin didn't exactly spell it out for everyone in their features description (after all they initially listed the screen over a 1/4 of an inch too narrow).... Anyway, think of this logic...

Has there ever been a gps that autorouted on the basemap, but not on CitySelect for which Garmin says the 76C/CS is compatible? <_<

The post above that says he got it straight from the horse's mouth that it does autoroute. This has to be correct as it would be ass_stounding if it autorouted on the basemap, loaded CitySelect maps and amazingly did NOT autoroute with CitySelect..... (follow all that?)

Rest easy.... this dog will hunt (and Autoroute)... :D

So is the concensus to cancel my 60CS and order the 76CS? Something tells me to and yet I still don't want to wait?

Really having a tough time deciding. My City Select order from Amazon is on it's way. I can use it on the 76CS though.

  14. Murphy's Law.

The new CS series will not be released until March 31st!!!!

    murph

    Sources, please.

Do you feel your leg being pulled?

Edit: Maybe the end of March isn't far fetched. Adventure GPS just changed their availability date to "Early March." Bummer

A little, that's why I asked for sources. I have my own, and my phone is set to DIAL first thing tomorrow morning. <_<

    FWIW, gpscity still says 2/27.

Actually guys I am just quoting Murphy's Law if you have ever heard of it.

You know, "If anything can go wrong it will"

  15. I think the auto-routing comes from the City Select software. I know in some of the other forums that people are saying it will do it??

But a lot of this software stuff is new to me. I had a Vista that I loved but was not happy with the reception it got and the smaller screen. I sold my Vista and am now without a GPS. Waiting another 2 or 3 months might be tough on me.

  16. While the statement "You don't need a PDA to geocache" is correct, you DO need a pda if you want to have the cache page (ie descriptions, hints and logs) available to you without printing them out.

There is currently NO gps unit that will display the cache description, hints and logs.

    Thanks GN,

That is what I was asking all along. It was what I figured but I just needed to know if I could get all the extra information in my GPS. But I can't.

  17. I seriously have been looking at canceling my 60CS. The geo thing would be kind of kewl but not really needed. The extra memory would be great but not sure I would need it. My big problem is the waiting. I am without a GPS right now and it's killing me. Garmin has already backed up the original deliver of the 60CS and I am sure they will do the same for the 76CS. If I knew it would come in April it wouldn't be bad, but if I have to wait until June then I would be upset. I have already made an order with Amazon for the City Select which can be used on the 76CS but not be necessary as the 76 does have some software and autorrouting with it. I can return it though I am sure.

When inquiring about canceling GPSdiscount told me the 76CS does not have auto-routing. I think it does which tickes me off enough to just cancel totally with GPSdiscount. I suppose they have a bunch of the 60's on order and will end up with a bunch of them, that is why they told me that.

So anyway, I am confused on what to do.

  18. Do you need a PDA to make the GPX files work.  In other words if I go out and Get GSAK will it upload the full GPX file to my new GPSMap60CS?  I am still waiting for my 60CS.  Will the GSAK put the extra information in my CS or just the cordinates?

GPX files contain ALL of the information from GC.com plus the last four or so logs. It will look just like the web page on your PDA depending on what program you use (GPXSonar is the best).

The information you upload to your GPSr (GSAK is the best) will be the

GC #, description, the coordinates and an icon depicting the status of the cache (found, not found, placed or archived)

    Keep us informed.

But I have to have a PDA right? I can't upload them to my GPSMap60CS and have the information available to me. In other words GSAK is no good without a PDA?

  20. Yeah if I log out or clear cookies it will then work again for three times. So at this point no one seems to be able to tell me what is wrong. Others have had this problem too and I can't help but to think it is with the web page?? Or at least I think. I just don't see why it happens on two of my computers and others have complained about it too.

    frustrated yet.

  21. Thcri

Not being a charter member you won't be able to get a gpx file. A LOC file only has the GC number, cache name, type of cache and coordinates. A GPX file has every bit of information on the cache page including the last 4 logs. Real handy if you have a PDA.

    Thanks Rusty,

But then if I become a charter member keep in mind I will have a GPSMap60CS for geocaching will the GPX files do me any good? Does the GPX file upload more information to your GPS'r
