  1. I ordered mine from Gpsdiscount. It had a pretty good price with the shipping. My big thing was they guranteed me I would get the CS in the first shipment they have. But as we all know Garmin has backed up the delivery until 2-23-2004. So we won't be getting them until first week in March. I am bummed because I sold my Vista a bit too early.

  2. Why is it that when I click on download waypoint it won't download to ExpertGPS or EasyGPS anymore. I have always had this trouble but now it doesn't work at all any more. When I click on download it takes me to the Agreement page and the Agreement page says I have already agreed. I have cleared out my cookies, I have logged out and logged back in. I have to manually load them into ExpertGPS. Does anyone have any suggestions.

I tried that and it still doesn't work. It's works if you go to the nearest caches and check the box but the problem with that is you can't find the cache by name. So I still end up having to manually put the waypoints in by hand.

Not a big deal, just frustrating.

  4. For the software, Amazon.com had the best price at $107.99 with free shipping. I didn't search around nearly as much for the software, but every other place I checked had it for at least $120, with the exception of Office Depot, who had it for $116.

I ordered the City Select from Amazon and then was told the item was discontinued. Are you saying they actually have them? I got this 100 dollar gift certificate and would like to use it.

  5. are they still saying the end of the week for the release? last friday i was told the end of this week most likely

I have gotten e-mails from 3 different companies including Garmin that says, The 60CS will not be available until Feb 23rd, 2004.

Bummer, I let my Vista go way too soon. I still could be using it.

  6. With shipping I found Gpsdiscount to be the best. They also seemed to be the only one that has plenty available for orders to date on the first shipment. The price was $420.09 including freight.

I recieved the following e-mail from another company. Reading the email I did not feel like I wanted to buy. This came from a yahoo shopping and felt there was an in between person and I would not be buying from the company direct.

"The distributator gives estimated date of 2-27-04 for the 60cs

They have 61 of the 60c in stock..

    .

60c $359.99 + $8.00 for UPS ground shipping in the US TOTAL $368.99

60cs $399.99 + $8.00 for UPS ground shipping in the US TOTAL $407.99

Above prices are for based on payment by money order or Pay Pal

Credit Cards are accepted through Pay Pal but an additional 3% must be added to the total

    Thanks for the interest"

Reading the above I just ddn't think the savings was worth it.

The machine that I was using (a PC) had Windows 98 on it. As for Windows XP, the difference would be several hundred dollars in cost, and a functionally slower machine. Although it may have had fewer install problems (with Windows, who knows)?

I might tend to disagree 98 being faster than XP. We just took a puter with a Pentium 700 and took 98 off of it and put XP Pro on it. The XP machine is faster. Now I know the Windows 2000 or ME did slow a computer down by a lot but my experience with XP is different. Now the make up of your computer could change this but you may want to give it a try. Ask someone out there if they have a copy you could put on and try it. You can do a 30 day free trial before you have to register it.

It would be nice to know if anyone else here has any comments on 98 versus XP?

  8. [quoteOk, but are you sure you converted the image to jpg format, and didn't just rename the file to jpg (or in my case convert it to whatever oddball, never-used format was listed above jpg in my software and still name it as a jpg)?

EDIT: Glad you got it worked out!

When I downloaded it originally I knew it was a gif file but it asked me how I wanted it saved and I clicked on .jpg. In fact Gif was not an option and I think that is why it asked. I found the same pic on another web page and it was already jpg and it now works.

  9. It is saved as a JPG. The actual file name is "lounge.jpg" But it could have been originally a Gif file that was saved as a jpg. Maybe I should look for another one to insert.

  10. I am trying to upload a jpg picture that is attached to my ID in the forums. I try to upload it but it comes back and says that it is not a jpg file. But when I go to my profile changes and click on change avatar it shows the description of the picture that I assigned to it but it still does not show the picture up in my posts or on my profile page.

  11. As said in an earlier post to get the quick guide out. But I will tell you what helped me more than anything. Just go outside and start playing with it. Just start pushing buttons and see what it does. When you think you got it down you can clean everything up on your new GPS and get it back to factory settings and then start all over and only keep the stuff you want. But I have found just like the computer on my desk, don't be afraid of it, there is nothing you can do to hurt less dropping it. Have fun with it.

  12. Stopped in at work today and see I had an e-mail from Garmin. I did write to them a couple of days ago regarding the shipping of the 60CS. My reply back was they have no date as of yet for first shipment :D:D The next line basically said as of right now there is no plans until the very end of the first quarter. ;):P

So the end of the first quarter is the end of March. We won't see them until the first part of April.

I sure hope our retailers have information that Garmin doesn't want to give out yet!! I hope.

  13. Man this lock code stuff scares me if you can only load it twice to a GPS. What happens when you update Garmin software. You sometimes end up clearing everything out don't you. I just go a 100.00 dollar gift certificate to Amazon and thought I could either buy mapsource or city select. But not sure I really want to as it would be a waste of money.

  14. I want to get CitySelect USA and use it in my 60CS for autorouting.

If I purchase the CD. I believe it's about $ 124.00 from GPSCITY. Anyway do I have to purchase an unlock code above the CD puchase? Or does it come with the unlock code.

The info out there gets confusing about this it seems right now depending on updates, etc.

    Jim

I am not sure of the unlocking? I do believe you have to unlock it though. I am not familiar with the software but am sure I will be ordering the same program. However you can get it cheaper at Amazon

I will be ordering it also but want to do some more research before I do. I am getting the GPSMap60CS also.

  15. I had a Dell laptop that an employer (State of Kalif) provided. I'd had an IBM thinkpad prior to the Dell and labeling the Dell as a piece of junk would be kind. I hope yours works better than mine did.

I currently have over 15 dell computers and laptops purchased over the last 7 years. Not one has been shipped back to the factory. Only one laptop went back in to get a new cover. We had one person drive her knees into it while slidding across the back seat. It just cracked the hinges, was in the case and Dell replaced it free. They didn't have to. Also remember, you won't get a serial port with that new Dell unless you specify it. Maybe some models still have it but my last one didn't.

  16. I bought the window mount and a bike mount with my 60c. Turns out that I did not need the bike mount. The bike mount that I had with my Legend is the same handlebar mount and the GPS mount will slide into it. So I can use the GPS mount from the window kit and my old handlebar mount.

So I sold my mounts with my Vista when I didn't need too?? Wow the picture on the CS looked so different. I am also afraid the new one is much cheaper than the ones for my Vista and not sure the bike mount will stand up to the abuse. I use mine 4 wheelin.

  17. Quick poll: how many people have ever used the GPS calendar?

Dan, I have never used my calendar on my Vista. In fact I didn't even know it was there until I was cleaning it up to sell. If my new CS is easy to get to I may just use it. I would love to have a tie in on waypoints. In other words I could click on a waypoint and it would tell me when I was there last or even all dates. That would be neat but I am sure that would have to come from Garmin?

ps: I have ExpertGPS and love it. Can't wait for CS to come and hoping ExpertGPS is updated by then. If not I will just wait.

  18. Wow that sucks. Leave it to Garmin to release a great new GPSr, that even has a dedicated Geocaching options, without the capability of using the most common "Geocaching" software out of the box...

I don't think it sucks. USB is so much faster. The developers of the Geocaching software such as ExpertGPS will change their programs to accept the change. Serial is long gone. My last lap top I purchased doesn't even have a serial port. And yes you could get a serial to USB adapter like I got for my laptop. But remember, if was said here to download some maps via serial took hours and when he downloaded over the USB it took three minutes. I welcome the change and I believe everyone else will too.

  19. You will need City Select 5 to use the autoroute feature of your 60CS. You can't do that with Topo. You can still see your 4-wheelin' tracks on the City Select maps, and download the tracks to other applications to view them on aerial maps.

What is Metro-guide? Also on the Topo can you get current aerial photos of the land your traveling on when wheelin? Or do you just get topo maps. The reason I ask is I now use Expert GPS for the aerial maps. I have a plotter so when we go on a trail I can get an aerial map printed on a sheet 36" x 44". But the satellite images are over ten years old.
