  1. This looks like a great EarthCache. If I'm ever in that area I'll be sure to visit! I always look for EC when I'm caching.
  2. I haven't encountered this problem either the past few days.
  3. My daughter is also in Girl Scouts and I was thinking about doing something with geocaching. Let me know how things go on your end; I'm interested to read your experiences.
  4. I also got one and I feel the same way. I just ordered something to attach to the tag. Then I'll come up with a mission. Then I'll enter it into the wild. Feel free to hold me accountable. https://coord.info/TB8DY9N
  5. Good idea Touchstone. Thanks!
  6. Thanks for the tip! I have this one covered, but I appreciate your making sure I don't waste my and the reviewer's time. I know that EarthCaches can take some time to get reviewed, so the more people I have looking out for me, the better.
  7. Poor choice of words on my part, though I'm not worried about the signs changing. I live in Central Pennsylvania where nothing changes. Thank you for the tip about using a kid-friendly website though. That's a good idea!
  8. Good morning. My daughter (9) and I (much more than 9) are going to work on creating an EarthCache together. We want it to be kid-friendly, and I want her to do most of the work. So, my question is: how detailed does the lesson have to be? The cache will require reading signs by certain rocks that are in a county park, so the questions will be easy enough to answer. When I look at my geology notes from college and the state's published geology information, it's way above the level of a 9-year-old. I have no problem helping her of course, but I want her to do most of the work.
  9. Welcome to the hobby! You'll see these forums are VERY active, so feel free to ask any questions you may have.
  10. http://imgur.com/ is another site to use for image hosting.
  11. I love finding unique places. For example, one cache that sticks out in my mind is a find from 2008. GC4B12 - Draper Mountain Cache was such a unique place that my family and I stayed there for an hour just looking around.
  12. I think this is a fascinating idea. A few Google searches will reveal how to solve it, so claiming the find is impossible is just ridiculous.
  13. Thank you for the reply BlueRajah. The EarthCache will not require a Wherigo cartridge. The idea is that the Wherigo cartridge will accompany / replace the park's self-guided tour book, while the EarthCache would focus more on the geological aspect of the trail, as well as incorporating geological information not included in the park's book or the Wherigo cartridge.
  14. I got into geocaching a few years ago, then stopped for a while, but now I'm getting back into it. My family and I just recently completed the Cache Across Maryland (USA) event, and it's a great event to participate in. The Maryland Geocaching Society does a lot of great work every year, and I really appreciate what they do. You can read about the CAM if you're interested.
  15. Thank you Touchstone. I'll keep this in mind when I create the cache(s). It will probably be easier for the reviewer when s/he can actually read the caches instead of just my abstractions of the caches. I appreciate the response.
  16. Thank you for the response. I'll get to work on the caches.
  17. A park close to my house is in dire need of an Earth cache, and I'd love to use that park to place my first Earth cache. Additionally, the park has a self-guided walking tour of a geology trail. However, the park no longer has the soft copy of the tour, and they only have a few books left. I'd like to take their book, type it up for them, and also offer it as a Wherigo cache. So, my question is, can I use the Wherigo to offer the same self-guided tour of the geology trail, as well as having an Earth cache based on the trail? I don't believe this would violate the cache saturation rules, but I also haven't been able to find an answer by combing the site's rules and guidelines. I understand the Earth cache wouldn't have a physical cache and that the Wherigo would. (I also plan on placing a few regular caches at the park, but I know the rules regarding those.) Thank you!
  18. Hello everyone. I'm looking to create my first Wherigo cache and my first Earth cache. I'm wondering if I can combine the two. I understand that not everybody can use the Wherigo, so I obviously don't want to make this a restriction. Here's some background: A local park features a book-driven geology walk. The park system no longer has any soft copies of the book material, and they only have a few hard copies of the book left. So I'm looking to create a Wherigo cache to replace the book, but I always want to have an Earth cache since the walk focuses on geology. So: 1) Is this the correct forum to ask the question? 2) If so, can I publish both of these caches along the same route? 3) Do you need any other information from me in order to provide the best information? Thank you!
