  1. We just met someone who was blind and caching at a WWFM Event this weekend! And for the terrain level, she was holding her own pretty well!!
  2. I replaced a really high traffic cache with a new multi just recently. Not only have very few people found it, but many of the ones who have have just skipped right past all the WP's, many by using the unwarrented "ask a friend" option. Quite upsetting really..but it's their loss. The cachers who made it to WP5 said it was the best they've ever done.
  3. I suppose I could do that..but I happen to like the placements I've made. I guess maybe I'll put a bunch of new caches in one general area next year a couple of miles away from the event. But anyways..
  4. you'd think we were having a theological debate.. Someone asked why we don't just publish these temp caches instead of using the multiple attend tactic. I just created 9 new caches for my event this past weekend. I had read mulitple threads like this one (I forsaw this thread on our forum calendar!! ) and decided not to go the temp-cache route. But what about next year? We plan on making our event an annual affair, and it wouldn't be possible or fesable to create new caches every year in the same location. This creates need for temp caches. Or take the WGA for example. They have two large events every year. They couldn't create dozens of permanent caches in one state park and hope to be able to take care of them when they come from all over the state to the designated event area. Thus the need for temp caches. I guess I just don't see what the problem is with the multiple logging of events. If the feature is there, then why complain about it. (Oh, and as for the gospel of Jeremey thing..I choose to interpret it to say "All Wisconsin cachers can log multiple attended logs for their temp caches.") lol )
  5. I ordered mine ASAP..I guess that's a good thing considering I'm a member of the WGA..
  6. There is now a GPO in Milwaukee, Wi.!! Found here: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...28-e5fec83bdf43
  7. After reading many topics like this one in this forum, I was determined to always have a pen with me..this past Saturday that determination was obviously not present, as I found myself at a woodland film canaster with no writing utensil in sight just this past Thursday. So..after reading many of the suggestions on here, I decided to pick up a twig, dab it in mud, and sign my name. I managed to get "~Hylife~", tildas and all, along with the date, on the minature log! Will it last? Who knows..but at least I didn't have to draw blood!
  8. It's really starting to get frustrating..I've contacted Groundspeak and hotmail respectively on numerous occasions for a long time..and it's litterally been months now. I'm not getting ANY e-mails from Groundspeak/the geocaching website anymore. People are e-mailing me for help on my caches and I'm not getting their messages. Half of the local cachers probably hate me by now!! I don't know what to do short of changing my e-mail address..but quite frankly I don't feel like doing that. Both ends refuse to take blame for the problem and I'm at a loss. Does this happen to anyone else? Has anyone else stopped recieving e-mails from geocaching.com all of a sudden??
  9. Is there one in Wisconsin; or at least near Milwaukee?? If not, I'm going to make one to premiere at our event cache!!
  10. I haven't been recieving e-mails when my caches/watchlist items are logged, TB's are moved, weekly e-mail, etc. I haven't been for quite some time now. I submitted a ticket at the Groundspeak help page some time ago, but they just directed me here.. Has this happened to anyone else?? Can anyone tell me what's going on?? HELP!!
  11. I always try to write lengthier logs..for example: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...f9-2524b26e431e I agree with the people who say they would even prefer "TNLN" to the generic cut and paste logs you see on all 2,000 caches the logger found across the country; very annoying.
  12. Just the other day someone apparently found the logbook for one of my caches scattered around GZ and put a new cache in the general area he thought it should be. I greatly appreciated his gesture, as other cachers have been to the site since him and before I could get there. The only difference between my situation and the one here is that the finder of my cache didn't log a find; even though he was more than certain it was there. But I do think that the person who "replaced" and FTF'd your cache was doing it with good intentions..
  13. I think I'm a "G".. But it's not that I HAVE to see the logs, it's that I read them while on the computer when I can't go caching. I usually just write down the coords, vital information, and the hint, rather than printing out the whole cache page. Sometimes I just go without any info..
  14. I released my first TB yesterday; it was picked up today..and then later today placed in what is referred to as a TB prison. I just hope that it's a frequented spot. I mean, I really understand why someone would put that kind of requirement on their cache, but I was just hoping my TB could travel a little before he met one..oh well..
  15. AHH!! WWHHHHYYYYYYYY???????? Why, why, WHY would you post this link!?!? Ahh, that was a good read. Took me like three hours, though; though I took a break for supper. It was pretty predictable, and the ending was to be expected.. Thanks for the link. WHAT HAPPENED TO TED?!? I read the story, hubby gets it next, but it stopped with him getting ready to return to the cave. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?!? Would you look for a cache in here? A new sucker is born every minute. Don't believe anything you read on the internet. The real story was written by Thomas Lera in 1987. It was called, "THE TERROR IN HUPMAN’S CAVE." It was definately a great read though. <snip> Didn't really care if it was real or not, I just wanted the rest of the story! SERIOUSLY!! But, I was expecting it to not continue..
  16. I thought about doing this so just thought I'd ask. Would it be against the rules to attatch a cache to a TB?
  17. We try to find small parks or playgrounds as to make it a little easier to search. But, if you have a really good hiding spot, that makes the cache all the more safe, and adding enough detail for the finder is nice too, so they don't cause suspicion and make a scene..
  18. I think I'd almost rather have ticks too; at least those you can see..
  19. haha lol.. Oh well, that's what I get for my impatience..
  20. That was a waste of 5 minutes of my life registering an account to read your flame war. Thank you.
  21. This Link leads to a page explaining in more detail what they are. A few weeks ago, while out caching with my parents, my mom contracted what we thought was poison ivy. The syptoms were so adjitating that she went to the ER to have it checked out. They agreed with our poison ivy hypothesis and prescribed some ointment. The rashes remained and spread vastly. It was at this point that she went to her regular doctor, who suspected that the rash was not in fact poison ivy, but actually scabies, a small mite that burrows in the skin and causes rashes and itching. The mite is most commonly found in places where poor hygine is practiced, so my mom thought that, since she works at a dialysis center, she contracted it from one of her patients. So she was prescribed another cream that is meant to kill the mites, and though not overly effective, it did kill some of the parasites, and with multiple applications, she doesn't have as many areas of rash anymore. Of course, I got it then. However, after one application of the cream, all itching has stopped and the rashes are disappating, unlike my mother's long-going rashes. So, one day, my mother saw on the news a report of the oak leaf gall mite being reported in Illinois. We now know that's what we have. Along with us, appearently some of my moter's co-workers have the ailment as well, from gardening and stuff. I gather the best way to prevent the mite is, when you get back from caching or whatever, wash your clothes immediately and shower before the mites have a chance to get under your skin, as it takes a few hours.. So anyways, I just thought I should warn everyone, specifically midwesterners, and see if anyone else has had this problem while geocaching.
