  1. Uhh -- I think 3 for $10, the deal at my local army surplus store for 30 cals is pretty cheap. Picked me up 3 today.

  3. I earned my Eagle in '89 or '90, and spent some time as an asst. Scoutmaster after I got out of the military. I am not active in Scouting right now, but I share a lot of the knowledge I gained in Scouting with my 2 girls whether we are caching or just exploring nature in our back yard.
  4. If you're using something with Palm o/s, you need to download cmconvert from smittyware if you haven't already. It converts gpx files into pdb files to upload to pda. You load the gpx files in cmconvert, then highlight them and export the pdb files and they will load to the Palm when you hotsync. THis is of course assuming that you have a Palm, I am unfamiliar with other platfo if you're using something with palm o/s.rms.
  5. Here's the link to where I get my rechargeables, they have the cases: http://thomasdistributing.com/shop/thomas-...st5oqit2d6bmt77 As far as the swag we carry, the kids and I usually load up at the dollar tree on little toy cars, yo-yos, plastic animals, etc. -- the type of stuff that they like to trade for. I usually keep a few compasses, decks of Nat'l Geographic playing cards, and lately some nice LED flashlights that I have found on the off chance that I find something I like in a cache or the girls find something that I feel their trinkets won't be at least an even swap for.
  6. They must have changed something because I had mine set up to auto renew yearly via paypal and I got the same thing. I just went in and manually renewed it.
  7. This is my first attempt at making a really sneaky hide, a fake pile of wood. It obviously hasn't been placed yet as we're still trying to find just the right spot.
  8. It took me 3 days I think. It was at the beginning of the week. Probably be a little longer with the holiday I think too
  9. I've got some of this on the way "Mycodex Sensicare Flea & Tick Spray for Dogs & Cats" and we're going to give it a try on the cats and on our clothes when we go caching. I has no alcohol in it, so it should be pretty gentle even if it does get on our skin.
  10. I use a Palm Tungsten E since I already had it and Cachemate/CMconvert. Works great for me.
  11. "We had bought the Jeep stroller in the fall, but hadn't used it until the spring because the weather turned nasty right after our daughter was born. The first chance she got, my wife was out with our children in the stroller (a jeep front/back version with a 'steering wheel' in front). She turned into her aunt's driveway, pushing the front wheels over the inch high curb. The part of the frame that carried right front wheel promptly bent. Fortunately, my wife had a firm hold on the grips, and was able to catch the stroller before anyone came into contact with pavement. If she had been pushing it casually - one handed maybe - the kids (7mo and 2.5 years ath the time) would have had some nasty bumps - at the least." HMM. Ours is about 4 years old too. Maybe it's just a difference in the model. We have a Jeep Wrangler single stroller and other than one of the hubcaps coming off of the wheels, it has been great. Checked with baggage on planes a few times and been all over the place with us. I hope that people realize when I say rugged terrain, I mean it in context with what you would consider rugged for a stroller, not boulder strewn single track up a mountain. I still agree that some sort of sling or carrier is the best way to go for caching, both hands free and you don't have to worry about setting the brakes on the stroller and watching it roll down the hill with the kid(s) in it. Although you would have to have 2 adults to take both kids. Our neighbor gave us a jogging stroller that they don't use anymore. If I can rig up some way to lock the brakes on it, I might try it the next time we go out. Edit: wording and forgot some text
  12. I've had good luck as far as durability and handling tough terrain with the Jeep strollers. In a two seater, you will probably want to look at a front/back seater as opposed to a side-by-side especially if you will be going down trails that may be too narrow for a side-by-side. Personally, when I take both my kids, the 4 year old walks and I put the baby in a Kelty Kangaroo carrier. You face them towards you when they are tiny, but once they can hold their head up on their own pretty good, you turn them around so they can see where they are going. They love it. It is a little warm in the summer with a kid in the front and a backpack in the rear, but I figure I'm getting a good workout. Another possibility for little ones is a Maya wrap. There's too many ways to carry a kid in them to post here, so Google it and you will see how versatile they are. Just my 2 cents. Hope it helps.
  13. Let's not get poor old Bill Dance involved in this even though I'm sure he'd be on my side. Well, I will admit that I did and still will watch a fishing show from time-to-time, but pretty much the stuff that I will probably never be able to afford to do like fishing for marlin in Mexico or Hawaii, etc. I do not watch the fishing shows that are broadcast by the local public access cable station since I have no desire to watch shows about guys fishing in farm ponds for bream, catfish, or bass or about redfishing in south Louisiana. I like you briansnat, I can tell we will be friends. Seriously, I did like your movie.
  14. Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. I'm sure a lot of effort was put into making them. I even did watch a little of the one in briansnat's link. Nice work on the video. It looks like a beautiful place, similar to some I've backpacked in before. I guess I'd rather experience it not watch it.
  15. It's sad that my first post on the forum isn't going to be a helpful one, but I had to respond to this topic. WHY would anyone want to sit around and watch a video of someone else geocaching? A tutorial video about how to use a GPSr, or an instructional video about the sport for a newcomer maybe, but to watch someone else bumbling through the woods staring at their GPSr looking for an ammo can is not my idea of captivating film footage. Of course this is my opinion only your opinion may differ.
