  1. Thanks. No number and definately trackable as it was logged at the cache I lifted it from. I have contacted the owner for help as well, but no response as yet.
  2. I have retrieved a Geocoin but cannot log it on teh site. The input page keeps asking for a TB number under the Geocoin logging page. The Geocoin has no number. What do I do? Thanks for the help
  3. I also used a Garmin Legend and had a similar problem until I learned how to use the GPS correctly. Whenever you move more than 500km from the last point that the GPS was used you need to go to the sub menu on Satelite and select "New Location". This is in the same sub menu where you select "Use with GPS off". This will then "tell" the GPS that you have moved a considerable distance and it will reactivate instead of looking for the last used satelites that have been stored in memory. Now, whenever I get off the aeroplane the first thing I do is select "New Location" and within about 3 minutes I am in business. Good Luck & happy caching
  4. LeonW I like your idea of the simultaneous logging of the cache. I have a slight problem with it though. Checking the records we have 25 caches in the entire country. On average, they are logged about 3 times per year. That leaves me to estimate that there are less than 6 regular cachers in the country. Tourism is not a big industry here so the chances of getting cachers interested in a simultaneous logging are pretty scarce. Where would we "advertise" such an event that Qatari cachers would be able to respond? I would be more than happy to do a twin flag cache with you in the Pretoria area - or anywhere else - if you are interested. Or with anybody else in SA. Looking forward to some discussion on the matter. Happy caching
  5. Durbabe I am happy with your suggestion about the names of the caches. Please reply vis-a-vis post #12 above. In the meanwhile I am going to scout for a decent site over the weekend and then hopefully we can get out little "project" on the road by next weekend. Happy caching
  6. LeonW Please give me more details about how you see this idea working? I am happy to try anything that is "different". We could look at doing this as a seperate little project. Let's throw you idea around a bit and I will be happy to be "the other end". Happy caching
  7. Durbabe Great - let's get this on the road then. I think that a hand held table-top size would do fine - without the stick and stand. Perhaps you could write something on the flag itself so that people can identify with it. We can co-ordinate what we write on the flags before we place them in the caches. A photograph of each of the flags being placed would also look good on the website. My idea - open to discussion - is that the 2 flags must change locations with each other - Qatar flag to SA and vise versa. Further, the cache should be located in a site that will have "high" traffic and will be likely to be moved quickly. I will scout for a place near a popular tourist attraction. We will need a "theme" and a name - perhaps mine could be South African Twin and yours Qatari Twin? Theme could be "Something International"? As for the 25'S bit - Durban is a coastal city and so is Doha. Let us select a scenic location close to the sea as something common. I am happy to do this with anybody in any country as well. Please contact me. Looking forward to your's and other's ideas. Happy caching
  8. LeonW Thanks for the reply and you input. According to my GPS the co-ords of my last visit to Pretoria put Lynwood Road at approximately 25deg 46min South. The towns I have mentioned are closer to 25S I think. Happy caching
  9. Graskop, Marble Hall and Warmbad are all approximately 25'S
  10. I am not too sure - perhaps we could get some ideas from the Forum? How about this as an idea? As Qatar is situated 25'N and somewhere in SA one will find 25'S we could place caches at 25'N and 25'S respectively [any longitude would be fine]. In the cache description we could say that the 2 are "twinned" with each other so that the finder will know that there is a link. I would be happy to send you [or anybody keen to play along] a Qatari flag that can be placed in the SA cache and you could send me a SA flag to be placed in the Qatari cache. The objective would be that the 2 flags must exchange locations. I look forward to some discussion and exchange of ideas. Happy caching
  11. Excuse my ignorance, but what is a "Twin Cache"? Is it a cache that is placed in 2 seperate places / cities / countries and BOTH have to be found to claim the cache? If so, I would be happy to "twin" with somebody in SA and we can establish a "twin cache" in SA and Qatar. Not sure how many cachers would be in a position to claim? [says I placing MY hand in the air!!] Looking forward to some ideas on teh matter. Happy caching
  12. dadgum - what a pity!! I could have had at least 3 new TB's for Qatar. One of the tagged TB's was from Peru and I was VERY tempted to take it, but refrained. Anyway, the TB that I took I discovered had been placed in the cache 3 days prior to my visit by cachers from Holland. So, 3 days in SA from Europe and now it is in the Middle East! I wonder if it will make it's way back to SA again in the future? Who knows? I will be in SA again in December and will be looking for TB's to relocate to the Middle East. Happy caching.
  13. Greetings All I notice that there is no topic / descriptor dedicated to geocaching in Qatar. I am new to the sport and would certainly like to see / hear / contribute to discussions on the subject locally. Although there are not that many caches in Qatar it is my intention to see that the number of caches grows in the near future! Happy caching.
  14. Discombob Thanks for the reply but I think you misunderstood my comment. The tags attached to the TB's indicated that the "race" was to end in 2006! That date has passed and the tags are still attached. Should they not have been removed by now for "general travel"? The TB that I did remove will be placed in my first cache, which I plan to establish this weekend - somewhere in Qatar. Happy caching.
  15. Sorry to barge in on your discussion but this might be the best place to ask the question. Firstly, I am new to Geocaching and do not know everything yet. I was in SA last week and found my first 2 caches. In teh one cache there were 3 TB's that had cards attached to them indicating that they were part of a "race" around SA and needed to travel to certain locations before a date that has already passed. As much as I wanted to take them in order to send them on their way here in the Middle East, I did not. I only took the one that had no card attached. My question - what is the etiquette involved when one encounters a TB with such a card attached? Happy caching.
