  1. There is a pretty active group of cachers in Abu Dhabi - and a couple of Canadians as well [] You can also have a look at the Facebook Group "Geocaching United Arab Emirates" - a lot of activity there as well. Enjoy your stay!
  2. IMHO this is another one of those "how long is a piece of string" type of questions. If you are going to measure purely on the "Owner Maintenance" logs then you can make a comparison. I own many caches but only log an "Owner Maintenance" log when I have done the maintenance and need to get rid of the dreaded "red spanner"! I often do maintenance on a cache and do not log that I have done so as there is no red spanner. If I replace a logbook, or repair/renew a container, etc it is not necessary to log the fact. However, if I have received a note in a log that a cache might be missing and I have done maintenance then I will log it [even though there is no red spanner] to show cachers who may have read that the cache is missing, that it has been replaced. I await your stats on this one but I'm sure there might be CO's who do a lot of maintenance who might not be on your list!

    Milestones

That's one on my To-Do List still.
  4. NO DANIE!!!! We keep reading. The stats are fantastic. We are just mere mortals but love the stats. KEEP THEM COMING!
  5. It certainly sounds like a good explanation, but the following map of all the archived caches in Mpumalanga shows differently: Most of the archived caches in Mpumalanga are centered around Nelspruit and Hazyview. WOW - almost looks like a Power Trail running north from Nelspruit.
  6. Mpumalanga caches - what would the effect of all the KNP caches being archived have been? Would it not have been a good place for "holiday caches" to have been placed in years gone by and then got archived due to lack of maintenance? Perhaps you could do a comparison with number of cachers in each province and see if there is any correlation to these stats? Just some thoughts.
  7. I'm surprised to see the stats on Seychelles. The caches there are few and far between but obviously the total size of the country comes into play in the calculations. We managed to do almost all the caches on Mahe [main island] in 1 day - only the 2 high up on a 8 hour hiking trail were not done along with 2 or 3 DNF's. Perhaps that will explain Madeira and Canary Islands as well. I still battle to get my head around those being part of "Africa"!
  8. I suppose it is safe to guess that the densest area would be around Pretoria? They have the power trails and quite a lot of other caches as well.
  9. I tend to agree with Danie on why the Gauteng caches have a lower % FP's. The majority of Gauteng is urban and that means smaller caches hidden in an urban environment - ie: magnetic micros abound! I will VERY SELDOM award an FP for a magnetic micro unless it is exceptional. One also needs to look at the huge amount of power trail caches in the province as well. I'm not saying that Gauteng caches are not good - I have found some excellent hides - and rewarded said hides accordingly - but the general urban cache never blows my hair back. The other provinces also have urban caches but they also have vast tracts of land that falls outside the urban environment that allows one to place better caches. Just my 2c worth.
  10. OK - nice stats but we also need to remember that only Premium Members can award FP's. What percentage of caches in SA are PM's? Is that figure available perhaps? You can then run the same stat and see what the difference is. Just a thought.
  11. According to the logs it has been found once. I would very much like to know how one retrieves and signs a log at that depth! I have to disagree with you Danie - according to the logs there are 4 DNF's and a heap of Notes written. The DNF's are not attempts to find the cache either but rather "notes" and comments. The CO says that they will be visiting the cache later in 2015 again!
  12. WOW - this cache DEEP GOLD is quite somthing!! I wonder if it will ever be found? Thanks for all the stats Danie - appreciated.
  13. I agree with you 100% Loony Londo. Every e-mail answer to my EC's receives a response from me - including a thank you. IMHO that is the LEAST a CO can do.
  14. Great idea - I like it!
  15. Also the 1st player to score 200 in a World Cup match and obviously the highest World Cup score as well. Take it away!!
  16. There is a pretty active group of cachers in Bahrain. If you look on Facebook you will find then there. Geocaching Bahrain or the like. Good luck.
  17. OK - looks as though nobody is interested in answering this one - It was Peter Conrad from Apollo 12. What was significant about Martin Guptill's 237* scored against West Indies?
  18. This thread is now about a "missing" trad cache and no longer an EarthCache. I am interested in the EC thread and don't give a rat's backside about the trad. My 2c worth.
  19. I used C:GEO with my Samsung Galaxy. Worked great. Good luck with the choices!!
  20. If he has answered the questions to the EarthCaches - to your satisfaction - then how can you just "ASSUME" that he did not do them? I would say that is a bit rough on the guy. The traditional cache is another issue completely and has no bearing whatsoever on the EarthCache log not being legit. I would be mega pissed-off if you deleted my log on your EC that I submitted and you verified my answers. I would appeal it to Groundspeak immediately.
  21. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but 2 hours is no where near enough time I'm afraid. You will require a VISA as an EU Passport holder for starters. I doubt that they will allow you through Customs/Immigration for a short time. If your layover is 2 hours you will be boarding at least an hour prior to departure as Air Namibia and SAA flights to Namibia are run from the regional apron and you are bussed a fair distance from the terminal building to the aircraft. Furthermore, even if you are allowed out of the transit area you would probably need a minimum of 2 hours to get to the caches and back with a taxi. Night time caching is NOT recommended in Johannesburg unless you are in a very well lit area that is known to be safe. I hope you have a great time in Namibia.
  22. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were 1st & 2nd moonwalkers. Who was #3?
