How do I post a photo when I log a visit? (Do I need to be something other than a "basic member"?)

We are getting ready to find our first cache. We have a very basic question I am almost embarrassed to ask, but I cannot find an answer yet on this site. We are supposed to leave something and sign the log when we visit, but what exactly should we leave? Anything at all? Something in the "theme" of the cache? Something that will be a signature for us? Pardon the newbie-ness and thanks in advance!
