  1. How does October 19th sound? Sunday afternoon around 3. I figure with football, everyone will want to watch games on Sat. and having it at 3 will give people time to go to church and they could even come by, hang out, and still make evening worship if they choose to. I have gotten quiet afew ideas that I will run by Pudman & Pookie and Joefrog. They seem to be the ones who have said they would help. I hope this first meeting will be a success and give us a chance to meet one another. Keep checking the forums for times and such. See ya. "Freedom is never given, it is won" A. 2. WELCOME Always great to hear of new people joining the sport. It is a great city to cache in. Evveryone I have meet or talked with is super nice. Please let me know if you need any help. Be glad to. I have only been caching since March, so still somewhat new. Be safe, you'll have a blast. God Bless "Freedom is never given, it is won" A. Phillip Randolph God bless
  3. Ditto what Pudman and Pookie2 said on the advice mtn-man. Got some ideas, puting them together. I do agree with P & P, not many read the forums, so it may be tough letting all of the local cachers know about a get together. "Freedom is never given, it is won" A. Phillip Randolph God bless
  4. Hello, haven't heard from Jeff, tried e-mailing him. Not sure if it went thru. Jeff, if you read this, please respond. I have read many e-mails and post where people have shown interest in having a get together at Oak Mountain State Park some time in late September. I think this is a great idea. I just need some help with ideas as what exactly needs to be planned for this event, EX: food, event caches, what to do there, etc... So, if you want to help,if you want to come, and/or if you have ideas, please post. I think if a few people helped, this could be a pretty big get together. It would be a great opportunity to put a face with a name. I also figure if we knew each other, it would make a better enviroment to watch out for each others caches. We can take in everyone's input and come up with a day and time. Jeff had the idea of Oak Mountain and I think it is a great spot since there are so many caches within the park. 5. To my fellow geocachers, The debate over "virtuals" has raged for days now. With fall coming around the corner, our focus needs to be on caching, which this site has almost solely made a world-wide sport that is continuously growing. People like Jeremy have created such a superb site and I really don't see another taking its place. But like any "new" sport, there will be kinks that must be ironed out. How to deal with virtuals is a kink we are dealing with now. I am sure that others will arise as we grow. I cannot help but feel that I have fueled this debate by a thread I began 3 days ago. I do not regret posting what I said because I did feel I could help find a possible solution. At times, people have become angry and sarcastic, but for the most part we have handled the situation better than most groups on the net. There is no need to "split" or leave the group. We need to continue to support this website and HELP make it better. At last count, approx 100 people had voted and 67% have said either make virtuals seperate or at least change the rules with 45% saying make them separate. When basketball was invented, there was no 3-point line or even "slam dunks". Hey, they even wore those really short shorts. But as times changed, so did the game. This sport of geocaching, just as other sports, has to be dynamic. It has to be able to adapt to new situations that may arise. Otherwise it will die. I do not want to see that happen. Although I may not agree with the admins of this site or even my approver, this is still their site and their rules. However, I am a paying member,as most of you are as well, and I feel my voice should be heard. Most of you have spoken by voting. Now it is up to Jeremy, the head honcho, to decide what is to be done. I will leave the only posting to this thread to be done by him. I will support his decision what ever he decides and will remain with the sport that gives me so much enjoyment. I ask that you guys make a decision about how you will handle this and stand by that decision. Personal note to Jeremy: I thank you for giving us a site where we can express our opinions and one that really promotes the sport of geocaching in a postive way. I hope that you will listen to what people have said concerning virtual caches. Most feel that they are a part of this game and want virtuals to stay for various reasons. Yesterday, I said I hope this subject can be "put to bed". I tried to provide a way for that to happen by giving cachers a vote. I hope now that the results are in that a decision, whatever that decision, can be made and we can just move on to other topics. Thanks. "Freedom is never given, it is won" A. Phillip Randolph God bless
  6. tkalen, I could't agree more. I feel you have expressed the problem better than any of us, including myself. I hope that the admins can see that this problem CAN be fixed by looking atthe polls. These ideas are NOT mine, but other ideas that I have gotton from other geocachers. There needs not be a split amongst us. Just fix the way virtuals are viewed. Thank you again, for your well-though, and tactful approach to this subject. The teacher in me gives you a smiley face. (Although I teach high school and that sounds soooo elementary, LOL) "Freedom is never given, it is won" A. Phillip Randolph God bless
  7. Bad form, "Freedom is never given, it is won" A. Phillip Randolph God bless
  8. I see now every one has removed it all, good. "Freedom is never given, it is won" A. Phillip Randolph God bless
  9. quote:Might I suggest that Woodsters also remove his log on the cache page referencing this situation and we move on? I would say if the approver in question were to apologize, then yes, let us move on. But it is not fair to ask Woodster to drop it considering he didn't ask for it. 10. I agree with "The Leprechauns" about most people voted based on their respect of others being different than they are. That was my hopes, that people would see how some people liek them, some don't but a decision needs to be made to help all involved parties. I like traditional ones better by far, but I like the virtual one every now and them. I like nincehelser was surprised att he results. When I posted a few days ago about inconsistencies on approvals, alot of people seemed to be of the mindset,"Do away with them all together". Now, as the poll has shown, close to 70% either think that virtuals need to be seperate or rules changed. So I hope TPTB do something and not just let this go on and on. 11. Polls closed? I didn't do that?? "Freedom is never given, it is won" A. Phillip Randolph God bless
  12. The ammo box under the Rhine river is funny, guess maybe they thought you were reenacting a part of WWII, LOL. Did they ask you for "your papers" "Freedom is never given, it is won" A. Phillip Randolph God bless
  13. Hiemdahl, to answer your question about the fuss over virtuals, let me refer you to this thread here. Hope this helps. "Freedom is never given, it is won" A. Phillip Randolph God bless
  14. I agree that IF he was banned, then it had to be about more than his post. He didn't really say anything except being sarcastic. "Freedom is never given, it is won" A. Phillip Randolph God bless
  15. Seemed kinda weird that he got banned. I want to make this clear, this is 2nd hand knowledge, so I do not know for sure. I really don't want to say who e-mailed me about it. Would be crappy if it is true. It just says NA on his profile???? God bless you and your family, Team Bubba Cache
  16. Here's what I don't understand: Why do people resort to such actions as Mr. Davros has because of the discussion and disagreements over virtuals. HEY, ITS A GAME!!!!!!! I have been involved in most of these discussions and I feel like people have been mostly civil and respectful about it. People have even put forth ideas on how to fix the problems of virtuals. Why not try to fix it instead of being ugly, rude, and inmature? I have recieved an e-mail from a cacher that has told me another cacher, Grajek, was booted from the site altogether because of their opinions. I have no idea if this is true or not, but if it is, this would be borderline "Stalin-like". I mean kicking those who have different opinions, those in power lashing out at cachers because they have voiced a complaint????? Can we expect a "purge" next? No, I do not know all of the facts, I can only go by what I see and hear. Here's a word of advice: An approver is a leader, lead by example. I give you Mtn-man as an example. He is one of my approvers. NOT kissing butt here but he and I disagree but we still have a respectful and cordial relationship via e-mail. Why can that not rain supreme, being respectful and cordial? I figure the virtual problem could be solved rather easy if we acted like that! God bless you and your family, Team Bubba Cache
  17. I started a post concerning the "consistency" of the approval process of caches, namely, virtual ones. It spawned a LONG thread that had many sides to it, some being pretty passionate about their opinions. But the key word there is OPINION. I e-mailed Jeremy annd told him that I really hadn't meant to cause any headache to him or anyone at geocaching.com but to address a problem I have noticed as well as others. So, I listened to all of the ideas, placed this poll on here, so they could get a feel of how people feel. The choices were NOT mine alone, but rather based on the predominate ideas that were mentioned over and over. So far around 60 have voted. Sure, thats not all the geocachers of the world, BUT it is evident what the majority opinion is: Make virtuals seperate. I hope that those who run geocaching.com, like Jeremy, listen. I thank those who took the time to vote on the poll. I appreciate the opportunity to have a taste of democracy on geocaching.com. As another cacher who posted on my "Attention Jeremy" thread, "The choir is singing, but is anyone listening?" Lets hope they are. God bless you and your family, Team Bubba Cache
  18. I think I got it but how can you post a pic withour putting it on geocaching.com first? Anyway... We found a cache this summer. It was supposed to be in a tree. My wife saw this hole but it was about 8 inches taller than me, so I grabbed the hole and pulled myself up to peek and well..... These suckers are MEAN and everywhere. And no, we don't eat them here in Alabama. Well, I don't eat them. God bless you and your family, Team Bubba Cache
  19. How do I post a pic within the post? God bless you and your family, Team Bubba Cache
  20. As a matter of fact that was my next idea. Then after that, my next poll will be what your icon is: A. A turd with a mouth B. Runaway hair piece C. Upside down black pokeman D. Alien mutated choclate ice cream bar God bless you and your family, Team Bubba Cache
  21. This may help shed some light on how people feel. Seems like it is a heated topic, LOL. PS What happened to Grajek? God bless you and your family, Team Bubba Cache
  22. When you say a "prepared cow pie", what does that mean, LOL God bless you and your family, Team Bubba Cache
  23. I think thats a pipeline, took me a minute to figure that out tho, Looks weird,LOL. God bless you and your family, Team Bubba Cache
  24. That is a pretty freakin funny idea!!!!! God bless you and your family, Team Bubba Cache
  25. I think the points have been made and both sides have expressed their views. Cool thing is we can!!! Ain't America great. I want to put this to bed. "Frolickin said it best: it has been hashed out already. Point went in a few directions so lets let this go to bed and leave it to geocaching.com to figure out or leave. Hey think about this: FALL is coming, NO TICKS, cooler temps!!!!! Thansk to all of those who used tact in your views and debated like adults. Some of you, please read your responses before you post them, you kinda sound like a jerk. Thanks again and happy hunting. I am outta this one. God bless you and your family, Team Bubba Cache
