  1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that one is an unused mailbox lying on the ground about 50' into the woods from a dirt road.
  2. You can also try posting at the Florida Geocaching Association website. The members there are used to seeing requests like this and should be able to point you in the right direction. Enjoy your trip!
  3. You might try posting your query at the FGA website, as well. Many central Florida cachers tend to read those forums more than this one.
  4. You might also try posting this request at the FGA site.
  5. You might also try posting in the forums at the Tallahassee Area Geocachers website and the Florida Geocaching Association website.
  6. This cache has links to several other bookmark lists with archaic caches.
  7. Rest assured that we do make comments to the cache hiders, but it is up to them to implement this type of change to the cache listing.
  8. If I recall, there was a puzzle cache submitted where the final location was getting too close to this unsubmitted cache. Ultimately, the puzzle cache never went anywhere either. I can't remember the specifics and it's only been a short while - does that make me way old? In any case, it's unarchived. If you move forward with this one you might want to change the date hidden from 5/21/06 to whatever the current date is. Carry on and sorry for the consternation.
  9. Try this forum category and do a little searching. I'm not sure what's there but something might turn up.
  10. The Florida Park Service recognizes geocaching as a legitimate use of public property and their land management policies encourage cache placements. All of their documents are internal and I can't provide links. Verbal permission is required from park managers to ensure that caches are not placed in environmentally or culturally sensitive areas. The majority of park managers and staff have been very receptive to our game.
  11. Try this proximity search for caches near Busch Gardens. You might try posting a request on the Florida Geocaching Association website if you want to find someone from the Tampa area to give you more detailed assistance.
  12. You might also try posting your request at the Florida Geocaching Association website.
  13. The cache was published and then retracted because additional information is needed. The local admin is working with the cache owner to resolve the issue. No big deal - things like this happen every once in a while.
  14. Try this bookmark list to get you started. Several of the caches on that list are linked to other bookmarks and may give you a better idea about what's in the area. Enjoy your vist.
  15. That's not exactly the case. With few exceptions, cemeteries are private property. Before any cemetery cache will be published, information needs to be provided that shows the site is either publicly owned or that permission has been obtained from the owner/caretaker. Not every cemetery welcomes caching and we are mindful of respecting private property boundaries. However, in almost every instance where a cacher has requested permission they have received it. Site managers are usually more than willing to let us play our game on their property once they get a little education about what we do. Cache hiders who feel reluctant about approaching private property owners (or managers of public land, for that matter) should take heart that most requests are granted with no problems. Problems are more likely to be caused by people skirting the land rules - resulting in a negative image of cachers as those who don't respect the property rights of others.
  16. Please keep the discussion civil and refrain from personal attacks. Otherwise, this thread will go the way of the dodo. Thanks.
  17. This cacher used to have a very similar signature item. He did a whole series of tiles several years ago that were very nice. Try contacting him for more information.
  18. This thread was reported by several people as not having anything to do with caching. Closing this thread. Thanks.
  19. This thread mirrors several existing threads in the main forum and in the "The Hunt / The Unusual" forum. Plus, it doesn't seem to be specific to the South and Southeast region.
  20. Since this thread is similar to several already underway in this forum, I am closing this topic. Thanks.
  21. edit: Oops - replying to the incorrect forum thread!
  22. What started as an affirmation of the OP's belief that he did nothing wrong has gone downhill due to name-calling. Please refrain from personal attacks to prevent closure of this thread. Thanks.
  23. Kentucky's first cache by date is this one. However, it appears that the hider has changed the hide date for some reason. This appears to be the legitimate first cache in Kentucky (3/01). This archived cache is Louisiana's first.
  24. I work with a number of TNC staff on non-geocaching issues and we discussed this matter last year. Their organization has no nationwide policy either for or against caching. And they don't seem to want to create one, either. I was told that the best bet is to contact the local land manager and work things out with them. Some managers are all for it and other managers will confiscate and dispose of any caches they find. Many of them have geocaching accounts just to keep an eye on their properties. If you submit a cache on TNC property make sure to include a reviewer note affirming that you received permission for the cache.
