Connection Broken Error, when connecting 60csX to nRoute
jtice replied to jtice's topic in GPS technology and devices
I tried that also no luck. Its odd that all the programs seem to talk to the 60csX, at least to the point of getting waypoints off of it, but none seem to want to do any real time position data. I have even messed with baud settings, which I am not even sure matter for USB. -
I am having a problem with Garmins nRoute software and my 60csX. I can get it to work on my desktop, but when I try this on my laptop, I keeps saying "Connection Broken" over and over again. Any ideas why this would work on my desktop, and not my laptop? Laptop will transfer waypoints with Mapsource, and do real time position with USAPhotoMaps. Laptop is a Fujitsu P1620 MapSource and City Select installed. Everything up to date as far as I can tell, including the 60csX Thanks ~John

Does your state have its own geocaching website?

Nothing "official" that I can find. But here is one for West Virginia. http://www.brillig.com/geocaching/west_virginia.shtml -

I use geocites. Its the best FREE one I could find. It has a easy to use file manager. There is only one popup, ussually on the homepage of your site. But they will all have popups. 15 meg of space provide. NO DIRECT links are allowed though. Like direct linking to a pic you want to display on this forum. My page: www.geocities.com/johntrotto

I have the newest software version on my etrex Vista... (3.20)... which is supposed to jump from 500 waypoints to 1,000. But, EasyGPS and Mapsource still say I have 500 when uploading to my GPSr. ( uploading 134/500 waypoints ). Is there a way to see if it will really hold 1,000? Does anyone with a Vista know if it really holds 1,000? Is it just the software that doesnt know the diference? Is the software not going to let me upload more than 500 sence it thinks thats the limit?

I dont really think one brand is ALWAY better than the other. But,,, lets say you had 2 etrx Yellows... and you and your wife had one, you would still not end up at the EXACT same point. Even if both units are reading 20' accuracy, that doesnt mean that they are unaccurate in the same direction. So it might not be because they are different brands.

Putting map software on 2 different GPS's.
jtice replied to Hannah904's topic in GPS technology and devices
As DougsBrat says,,, Topo USA, R&R USA, Metroguide USA do not use a unlock code. But, Im not sure about Mapsource itself. Although, you dont have to upload Mapsource to your GPSr, just Metroguide, or the topo. -

Garmin eTrex Summit, thoughts about its performance
jtice replied to ryan112ryan's topic in GPS technology and devices
The compass on the Summit is good, because you dont have to be moving for it to work,,, like on the Legend. I have the Vista, it has the electronic compass like the summit. Mapping::: well, I couldnt do without the mapping. I'm not saying you cant find caches just as easily with the summit, but the mapping is great for letting you know where you are in relation to other things,,, roads, rivers, railroads, etc. Your main difference will be the mapping if you jump up to the Legend,,, but you will loose the altimeter, and electronic compass. You will have to jump all the way up to the Vista to keep those two features. If you dont care about the mapping, dont worry about upgrading. -
I have sortof the same problem. When downloading caches from the site, they all have the regular waypoint symbol,,, I want to change their symbol to the geocahce one. But I have to do one at a time. FORMAT: I would like to use the format that EasyGPS uses. (.loc) Sence that is the program I do all my easy, enicial, quick editing in.

Garmin etrex Vista Screen Shots. --- Done with g7towin.exe
jtice replied to jtice's topic in GPS technology and devices
I know, it sucks... it's because they are a FREE webhost. If you pay for a homepage they let you direct link. But free ones never do. It drives me crazy. -
Legend with Topo screen shot please.

In Comparision.... How good are the streets and information on the topo map compaired to metroguide??? Does the topo have just as many streets? What are the main differences? -
Size of Base Map in Garmin Legend ???
jtice replied to Hannah904's topic in GPS technology and devices
Not sure on the size,,, but the basemap, and all waypoints, and tracks should NOT count as part of the 8 meg onboard memory. -
Legend with Topo screen shot please.
jtice replied to Team ECO Cache's topic in GPS technology and devices
Traveling Jones ........ Do you, or can you, have the topo and metroguide on there at the same time? Can one be turned off at a time, .. example: can you have the topo on the lowest detail, or completely off,,, while having the netroguide on Most detail? ( and visa versa) ??? -

Legend with Topo screen shot please.
jtice replied to Team ECO Cache's topic in GPS technology and devices
To Clairify.... NGS lets you upload waypoints and routes to your GPSr, but NOT the actual topo maps.
