  1. This is a hypothetical scenario but one that could play out so please don't shoot the messenger lol. Despite being a member for some time I have only just got around to kicking off my activity as a geocacher and therefore new to the etiquette around this topic. I haven't seen yet any comments about the procedure for adopting a cache should a CO be unresponsive to DNFs or NMs, or communications from reviewers. I bagged my very first one a few days ago and it was totally trashed with water, I couldn't sign the log but I did file a NM and messaged the CO, now if this is met with no response is there a procedure for adopting a cache if a CO can no longer maintain it ? For example: How long should one leave it after an NM notification ? Does the CO definitely get notified after the first NM ? At what point is a line drawn in the sand before it's archived ? What is the procedure for adopting a cache ? How do I find out who my local reviewer is ? We must also remember that a CO may not be able to respond due perhaps to illness or god forbid that they are no longer around. Thoughts are welcomed !!!
  2. Brilliant..... Thanks for that.
  3. As a total newbie and only just found my first one (26th Jan 21) I found it OK, after a little poking about but when I opened it up it was totally wrecked, I was unable to sign the log because it was just a wet mush and the pencil was rotten with damp. Not a reflection on the CO as they weren't to know but despite it being a snap lid container it didn't have a lid seal and capillary action had drawn in the water to the container and to the ziploc bag also inside. As it was my first cache I was a little disappointed but I thought well, there are plenty more to go at but I realised that the CO needs to know about this so I logged a NM but I also offered to fix the problem if they couldn't attend and to let me know. I still logged it as a "Find" despite not being able to sign the logbook.
  4. Errm....... I don't know. I was using the one that pops up when you click on "Map"
  5. I think it was just my impatience with my hard drive being occupied, it seemed the map and therefore the search again button were the last thing on the page to update.
  6. Just an update on my original topic, the reason I wasn't seeing as many cache's on my laptop compared to my phone was due to the map needed refreshing after each zoom in/out using the "search area" button. A misunderstanding on my part however the button wasn't always appearing straight away and I think that was due to my laptop having started a scheduled virus scan and it was occupying the hard drive while it should have been refreshing pages.
  7. Thanks for that folks. I'll give it until after teatime and see what happens and post an update. I'll log out of both devices then back into each separately and see what the outcome is.
  8. Hi everyone. Please excuse me if I'm missing something here but could someone advise a newbie why I see more geocaches on the phone app than I do on the laptop map ? I live in Bridlington and there seems to be quite a few in and around the town and a few at Flamborough Head that show on the phone app but not on my laptop. Any ideas ? Regards, Steve.
