  1. Let me think... counting my girlfriend... 1, 2, I know 2. I don't interact with my fellow cachers often it seems. I've met a few others and caught their names at events, but probably couldn't remember the names if I tried. I'm bad with names like that.
  2. I tend to cache more out of convenience rather than making trips specifically to cache (i.e. I'm someplace with caches I might go do a few) so it hasn't effected me that much. Still, I DO find myself taking the motorcycle to work more now. Even THAT costs me $12 to fill. Was less than $5 to fill it when I got it a few years ago. That said, I just put $46 in the XTerra today. dadgum glad I don't drive one of the really big behemoths some folks are driving! I used to fill my old car for what the bike costs to fill now.
  3. I'm happy to introduce the game to those who might be interested, but I'm not sure I understand the need to so actively spread the word to the world at large. Booths, floats? Seems a bit much to me. I think Renegade Knight's post above covers my feelings pretty well.
  4. dadgum, haven't heard DPM in a while!
  5. I) only look to see if there's a string of DNFs since the last find. Mulitple DNF logs since the most recent find indicate a cache needing attention/maintenance/disabling/archiving so I'll skip it and maybe check back in later to see if it's back.
  6. Found one just like that in Salt Lake City. The cache container was up out of the way. Cool building, they don't make 'em like that anymore.
  7. The Party thanks you for your loyalty and will be paying you a visit this evening to express their gratitude.
  8. You should just leave one piece in each cache. This way the collecters will have to hunt around to gather all four pieces. I thought about that too, but I envisioned a lot of people somehow ending up with 3 bodies and one set of legs. A bit like playing McDonald's Monopoly when you ended up with 3 copies of 2 of the three properties you needed to win anything. Besides I cache so sporadically that it could take 2 months for me to drop off one moose's parts. Wow, I typed that original post horribly!! LOL!
  9. As far as the original idea of the standing dead tree, I'm inclined to agree. All it takes is one do-gooder muggle that doesn't know permision is granted, etc, etc and they go off assuming such is standard practice for all geocaches. Look how persistent the perception of buried geocaches is when there are very few that are and they're actually violating the guidelines. As for hauling in a log, I'm a bit more on the fence.
  10. wtf? Neither of my GPSr's have been able to hold onto a satellite signal in a plane so I gave up and just watch movies on my laptop now.
  11. I'm mostly known for running upstairs two at a time, flinging the door open and saying, "Ha, ha! Caught you, Mildred!" But seriously, no sig yet, but I have an idea for one that I haven't made yet. Basically it's a wooden moose made from 4 interlocking pieces of wood. The body, with the legs and antlers interlocking perpendicular to the body. I've only made a heavy paper prototype so far though. I can carry them around flat and assemble at the cache or leave them in abaggie in the cache. I'm also considering using them as a general calling card when I go interesting places, just for my own amusement.
  12. I seem to recall Lite-Brite looking Moonenites went over well a while back. Just keep such concerns in mind when hiding in the city. Be careful to consider wether or not the cache container will draw suspicion/fear. Ammo cans and anyhting pipe-bomb looking are right out IMO. And of course, careful choice of hide locations. I know what you're saying about the shetchy low-muggle areas, which as such probably don't have anything interesting to visit anyway. Of course the best sights/sites will likely have a lot more traffic. Ultimately I think micros would work best, but beware the lamppost skirts. You'll undoubtedly catch some flak for it from somebody. Read any of the LPC threads and you'll see what I mean. But a well crafted, well placed micro can work well. I'd sugest checking out the cool cache containers thread. Some great examples of urban camo in there.
  13. I've been trying to make an effort to plost more pitcures to cache logs myself. Especially as most cache logs have tended toward simple found it notes more than anything. I've been especially into doing the same for TBs. They're supposed to gather stories along the way, right? But most I've moved usually have little more than a series of brief notes about finding.dropping them and little else.
  14. I'll try it out. I was astounded when paint markers and even an industrial Sharpie from work wouldn't stick! Those industrial Sharpies write on anything! (well, almost apparently)
  15. innnnteresting. I'lll have to check this out more. Thanks!
  16. At that point you've expended the effort to find it, you might as well get your smily for it. I don't usually care about the smily itself, but once in a while it's the only redeeming quality.
  17. I've got one. It works reasonably well. And you can get sticker rolls for the machine too and make your own stickers and labels. As mentioned above, don't cut too close. I'd suggest letting your stuff sit a little while and see how much it separates the laminate before cutting. I trimmed a bit too close and had it "open up" so to speak within a few minutes. Kind of a drawback of adhesive laminates versus heat. My only complaint on the laminating material is that you can't write no it. My plan was to make calling card with a line for find number and date that could be filled in later, but that didn't work out.
  18. Word of mouth. That's how I got here
  19. I couldn't say it better myself. I'm not about to have an epiphany and start seeking LPCs, but I'll admit that's the first time I've ever seen one's appreciation for them so well explained.
  20. I'm not quite sure I follow you. Do you mean a geocaching "business" card? Or do you mean a normal business card and you've written your geoname on it? If the former, then no worries. Lots of people print up and leave calling cards. Some don't like them, others do, but I don't think you'll get too much flak for it. If the latter, eh. My inclination would be to view it as lame and bordering on geotrash. But that's just my opinion.
  21. As long as they're well maintained, I don't see any reason they shouldn't stay out as long as possible. There are still caches out there from the very beginnings of geocaching. I suppose over time yes, some caches will get fewer visits as the most of the locals have hit it, but there are always visitors to the area that may still find it. I know I myself enjoy caching while I travel. So, like IO said, as long as they're in good shape leave them out there to be found. You never know when that fresh log will show up from some grateful cacher.
  22. Naturally curiousity compells me to go look but I don't see anything weird. I had to look about 3 times. Lower right hand corner of photo. Ok, pretty weird indeed, but funny! Obviously not appropriate for caching though.
