  1. Thanks for all the info. I took the advice of the majority and didn't sweat it and posted the cache w/my best shot coordinates...people seem to be finding it OK. I'm working on the gills, just in case because if I tried what Major Catastrophe suggested it would be just that...a major catastrophe! lol Can you tell I have limited patience?
  2. OK, I'm not the newest of newbies, but have been having this problem since Day 1. Whenever I try to get coordinates to hide a cache near a lake, river etc, (within 40 feet or so) no matter what I do my Magellan puts me in the middle of the water! I'm trying to get a fix for a new hide and I've been back to the same spot 4 times, trying desperately to end up on land. Then, if I guestimate the coordinates so that it shows I'm on land, when I go back to test them I'm 150 feet or so off. Do signals bounce off water or something? This is mega-frustrating. Thanks in advance. kitegirl
  3. I set off my first TB last fall...I just noticed today that the start location is wrong. It actually sounds like a mythical place! "New South Wales, New Jersey" ! The bug started out in East Brunswick, NJ. The mileage seems screwed up too.. How can I change this original location? Thanks in advance. Monica
  4. Seasider you are the best! Thanks to all who responded! Kitegirl, no longer in distress.
  5. Seasider and Lance Ambu (rescue me!)...I'll take whoever sends me pics first! Thank you sooo much everyone! Kitegirl (send to njrealtor@rcn.com)
  6. OK, now that I have your attention... I'm looking to find someone in the UK to help me in logging the "Where's In A Name" virtual cache: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?pf=&ID=12627&decrypt=y&log= The name "Kitegirl" translates out to a latitude of N54 41.44x, which runs smack across your lovely land. In the East it seems to be a tad north of Bishop Auckland and a little south of "The Kiln" cache cutting west near "Swineside" cache and continuing on to a bit north of Belfast by the "One Small Cache for Niel" (U of Ulster?) What you need to do is to take a clear picture of your GPS display where the latitude shows N54 41.44x. The x can be 0-9, it doesn't matter. The longitude can be any number. Once you have taken the picture, contact me to arrange to email it to me. I'd love to see pics of the surrounding areas too! After that, I can upload them to the virtual cache page, and we can both take credit for it. Hoping someone can help..I'm fairly new at this and it's great fun! My next trip to the UK will surely be accompanied by my GPS. Thank you kindly, Kitegirl in New Jersey
  7. Lots of good tips here. I spent about an hour at one site playing around, using all of your suggestions. I think I got something that is pretty close, will go back later and try it again. Holding the unit up high helped in getting more satellites, from 4 to 8. Boy, my arm got tired. Thank you all! m
  8. quote: I just bought a 128Mb Sandisk SD card at CompUSA in Phoenix for $49.00 AND I get a $50.00 rebate. That's right, they paid me $1 minus tax for the SD card! WoooHooooo! imatrout I've just called a bunch of CompUSA's in NJ and not one has anything close to that! Hey imatrout...wanna pick up one for me?! lol! Or how about just letting us know the phone # of the store you got it at? Thanks! m
  9. Ok, I'm fairly new at this, I've found a few caches and now I want to hide one. I've found several nice spots but I'm frustrated out the wazoo in trying to get a fix on them. They are in light tree cover..I can still see quite a bit of sky. I've stood in one place for 15 minutes and my gold still won't lock in on a position. It wavers between 2D, 3D and nothing at all... The batteries are fresh, the unit is warm. Are there any tricks or quirks with the Meridians or do I just have a funky unit? It seems to work ok finding waypoints when I'm hunting, but getting an accurate fix in anything but absolutely clear open space is another story. Any suggestions greatly appreciated! m
