  1. I'm pretty sure I've read that it can be tracked somehow...give Garmin a call. What would be really cool is if you could send a signal to it and have it shock the living crap out of the person.
  2. Come on! Garmin just spent a boat load of money upgrading one of their aviation research facilities in Oregon. Talk to the guys there and they'd be happy to tell you that Garmin, the leader in aviation GPS-type products, is doing extremely well and that the "real" money comes from those products.
  3. I'm sure Garmin is not in panic mode as the big money comes from their very expensive aviation and sea-born equipment.
  4. It sounds like all of your "plus" points lead to the 60 or 76. I had the 60CSx but traded it in for a Vista HCx because I could not read the screen while riding my motorcycle (the screen was not bright enough at full brightness). I just powered up the Vista and could operate all the buttons and access everything using either hand by itself.
  5. I just tried entering that same address in my Vista HCx with CN and got the same thing...and couldn't find a way to find the address. Found it on Mapsource though.
  6. Vista HCx on motorcycle, works great, easy to read. Of course, a 17" laptop screen would be better, but life is full of compromise.
  7. I use the Vista HCx on my motorcycle...it's a road bike. I have a Techmounts control mount(http://www.techmounts.com/products/index.php?page_function=detail&product_id=76) with a RAM cradle and it works great and has a clean appearance. No issues seeing it through a visor and I have one of those screen protectors on the GPSr. I have City Nav for the US. I also tried the 60CSx, but took it back because even at the highest level of brightness I could not see it while riding in some lighting conditions.
  8. I had the 60 and took it back in favor of the Vista. I'm using it while riding my motorcycle and the 60 screen was not bright enough at 100%...Vista good at 50-60%. Other than that, I would have liked to have kept the 60 because the buttons are on the front, but even while riding, I can manipulate the Vista's buttons with a gloved hand.
  9. Took my HCx flying with me today. I set up some waypoints that cooresponded to waypoints along our route. The HCx was always within .1 nautical mile of our flight management system which we had set to operate on our "special" military GPS. Headings, speeds, altitude (compared to the pressurized cabin) were spot on. Very happy with the unit thus far.
  10. I have a Vista HCx. Over the weekend, I made some waypoints at my parents and brother's house. I've transfered them from my GPSr to Mapsource. When I close Mapsource, it asks me if I want to save changes. Do I need to rename the files each time or keep over writing the files?
  11. Hopefully mine will arrive today. Question about the unlock codes. Can the DVD be installed on my laptop and desktop? I understand the maps can only be used on one GPSr.
  12. That would be my guess as well. It would only take a .5" (Hg) change in pressure. And, my guess is that a GPS doesn't compensate for temperature. Next time, calibrate to a known altitude instead of barometric pressure.
  13. Downloaded Firefox and still have the same problems. I must be the biggest idiot. On googlemaps, I sign in, click My Maps tab, click Create New Map, name it, build it with the Get Directions function, and that's all I can do with it. The Save tab is no longer available. Where am I blowing this?
  14. In another thread, someone gave me some links on converting googlemaps to my Garmin. In one of those links, I ran across the takitwithme.com site. Anyone else having luck with this? I've built some routes in googlemaps (using the directions feature and then dragging the route to change), placed the URL into takitwithme, and nothing else happens. All of the appropriate plug-ins are installed. Could I have issues with my ISP (Qwest using MSIE). I ask because whenever I've built routes in googlemaps I am unable to save them...I followed the tutorial and help menus to no avail. Thanks
  15. Wow, lot's of info in those links! On the gpsbabel.org site, which program is it that I want...the 1.3.4 beta? A lot of that info in those referenced threads seems to be geared towards building topo maps. I just want to choose a route from point A to point B, mark out the roads on the map, load them into my Vista, and go ride. Will citynav accomplish this?
  16. I built a route in Google Maps. Is there any connectivity to load it into my Vista HCx so I can reference it during a motorcycle ride?
  17. That must've been it! I had it laying on my desk at work. Just calibrated it with no issues in the middle of the living room...with 8 satellite reception I might add; my Cx wouldn't get any satellites standing in the same position. Thanks.
  18. Just got the Vista HCx. I was able to calibrate the compass the first time I tried it. Now, it fails every time I try it. I rotate it four times before the status bar gets close to the end and then it states the calibration has failed. I've tried it with the compass on and off, after turning the unit on and off, took the batteries out, etc. Any suggestions?
  19. For what it's worth...I fly for the military out in the Pac. Northwest. We flew a lot of training flights most of last week, all of last weekend, and today. Nothing unusual and there were no Notices to Airmen in regard to any GPS anomolies...if someone sneezes at GPS central they let us know.
  20. For me, I took a 60CSx back to Wal Mart because the screen was not bright enough while wearing sunglasses...Vista works great in this regard.
  21. Any SD card brand recommendations for the Vista HCx?
  22. Ditto! Cx to CSx, now going to HCx.
  23. I have a Vista Cx. Took it back to Wal Mart a few days later when they put out the HCx. I ended up getting the 60 CSx. I could not use it on my motorcycle because the screen was too dim. And, the map page had some issues. Took that back and am now waiting for a Vista HCx.
  24. I just returned a CSx to Wal Mart about an hour ago. I loved the size of the display and the buttons on the front, but it was too dim. I used it while riding my motorcycle and couldn't read it through a pair of sunglasses and a clear visor. Going back to a Vista.
  25. My buddy and his wife use some older Rino's on their motorcycles and he said they can talk up to a mile. He said the biggest problem is they pick up CB radios and/or other voice devices.
