  1. I have also had continous problems with using the "Refresh cache data" via the api in GSAK for the last 3-4 days. Now today, I cannot even get the Download pocket queries" to work. I only get long waits then "Fail".
  2. I bookmark my each of my finds and then run a pocket-query on the bookmark. That way you can group them however you wish by setting up different bookmarks.
  3. I am also seeing this. In fact, it is fustrating because I have rules set up in "Outlook" to sort e-mails recieved into folders based the 'guid=' of the url listed, now they are all going to the same folder.
  4. Now that is what I'm talking about! Great constructive remark. Of course, you didn't say whether you are pro or con for the idea, but you at least offered a possible solution. Thanks Keith! I'm going to copy all of the great suggestions on how I can make this happen and try something new... Sorry, but I'm afraid I am not in favor of listing caches that the only option is by appointment only.
  5. How about hiding/listing a cache on the edge of your property for everyone/anytime. Inside that cache post a listing and instructions for a bonus cache that is avail by appointment. As the cache owner, you can allow a 2nd find on the 1st cache for those who find the bonus. The cachers that only download waypoints without description can "score a find"; and if they so choose, can make an appoitment for the bonus. As a bonus cache, it does not have to be listed via Geocaching.com and would not be subject to review rules (it is on your property, you can do as you want). Those who feel comfortable making an appoint, can; those who do not, still found your cache and can move on. If you wanted to, you could list on you cache page that there is bonus cache by appointment only, and list the particulars. However the 1st cache with the instruction would be in full compliance with Groundspeak rules.
  6. If this has already been discussed, please Markwell me to the thread.... Would it be possible to show on the cache page, how times the cache has been bookmarked, as well as how many people are watching it? I am NOT asking to see WHO has it bookmarked, but just the number of times it has been bookmarked. example: This cache has been bookmarked xx times, and there are xx user(s) watching this cache.
  7. Perhaps you could wait until someone logs a find. Then maybe the cache owner will let you log your DNF and your pictures. If you wait until after a find or two, your log will be past history and will have absolutly no bearing on the problems the cache owner is having.
  8. I am sure most us have cachers in our areas that create really great caches. These people definitely have a knack for hiding caches. Some of us do not have the same knack. I only have a couple of caches, I do enjoy having a couple of hides, but frankly, it is not easy coming up with a theme, name, swag, hiding spot, etc. If/when I come across a spot that ispires me, I'll hide a cache. I'm lucky that I live in an area that is very "cache rich" and there are many great hiders. Because of this, it is getting harder to find great hiding spots. If we were to create a guidline of a hide-per-find ratio, I am afraid it will either lead to poorly hidden caches just to meet the guidline, or people will stop logging on line so that they won't be chastized for not hiding their "fair share". Let's leave the hides to the inspired.
  9. If she believes this, then why was the issue not turned over to law enforcement for investigation of violation of current laws?
  10. Even though this is a very flawed piece of legislation, the intent is supposedly to protect the areas in question. I can see where the legislators would have a hard time explaining to their constituents why they would vote against protecting their state historic areas. If this bill does indeed die where it is, due to sensible legislators seeing the flaws in it, I am afraid it will not be the end of the story. The authors of this bill perceive that there is a problem, and they will author up another bill so that they can feel good in the belief that they are protecting their sacred grounds. Actually we, as geocachers, really have the same goals. We do not want to see any of these areas damaged. We cherish these same areas. We only want to see and learn from these spots and to share our experiences with others. The only difference between us and other tourists is that we like to use fancy toys to guide us in our experiences, and we post public logs of our adventures. Unfortunately there may be some that are perceived to be unethical or disrespectful amongst us. If we were expected to pass a law against any activity that occasionally had an instance of a member acting improperly or unethically, then we would have to ban most other organizations or activities as well as all legislatives bodies left in this country! I believe that the solution to all this, is to start acting proactively. Work with the legislators that have been on our side so far, and work out ways to protect the lands and landmarks without more unnecessary legislation. Maybe it is time to start making our hobby/sport/obsession more public. Possibly we could work out “adopt-a-cemetery” or like neighborhood watch, start “cemetery watches”. Maybe in all of the states we should start thinking of more organized associations to aid in a louder political voice. Maybe even organize each state as a charter under a national committee of some type. Possibly money raising activities to help fund clean up/repair/preservation of the areas we cache in. Of the thousands of geocachers in the world, I bet it is a small percentage that read these forums, therefore it is only a small number of us realize the danger that is upon us. As much as I believe in the independence of how each of us ‘play the game’, the time may be here to start educating our masses if we are to preserve the hobby, as we know it. 11. How about a % going to Forestry/Parks/Natural Resources -- maybe if there was $$$ coming in, they would be more embracing of the sport.
