  1. I dropped off a TB in a certain cache and accidently logged it in another. I deleted that log from the erroneous cache, but now the TB is not in my inventory anymore. So as of now it still shows it in the wrong cache. I don't have the tracking number on the tag anymore. How do I correct this?
  2. I edited my logs because I got the caches confused with other ones and now my logs say [last edited by me on April blah blah]. Is there a way to remove that from the log so it doesn't show up.
  3. I've got an Airmap 500 (Basically an Ifinder). To load maps and other items, I need to remove the battery door, batteries, and then pull out the SD card and then stick it into a reader, load the data and put it back in. With the data cable that connects to the bottom of the unit, can I do the same thing without having to remove the card?
  4. I am trying to clear my personal information from the startup screen of my etrex vista. I am shipping to its new owner tomorrow. However, I forgot how I entered my information to begin with. How do I clear it?
  5. Click Here This is a Garmin eTrex Vista in perfect condition. It has no scratches, blemishes, or flaws of any kind. It includes everything that it came with originally, less the box. The unit is available via my ebay auction. Feel free to bid, or, "Buy it Now" for $174.99, which included free shipping within the US. I have replaced this unit, so it is priced to move.
  6. Get one of those sunshades for the windshield....then tint the windows. My car, even in blazing sun, can be sat in for over an hour without breaking a sweat....and I live in FL. It'll really keep the inside cool enough for a gps.
  7. Well, I set my reserve too high at $200 bucks. I regret it now because after 17 bids, and a final price of $162.50, still no sale. Since there was strong interest....I am going to just sell it here. You can still click on the ended auction link above to see the photo. Asking $171.50 shipped. (Thats the winning bid price, plus shipping) The GPS is in MINT condtion. No scratches or blemishes on the screen, the body, or anywhere. Includes instruction manual, quickstart guide, and data cable (everything it came with, except the original box). E-mail bryris@tampabay.rr.com if interested.
  8. I am going to put one out near KBKV. Brooksville, FL.
  9. As another poster mentioned, the attrition rate is high....I am guilty of this. I joined this hobby in March of 2003, and I have logged 11 caches. But, its not crime. There are no quotas. I think that people will jump on and say "THIS IS THE COOLEST THING EVER", as mentioned, then jump off, perhaps jump back on down the road. This cool thing about it, is that everyone can do it in thier own way. For me, geocaching is a free (well, after the GPS and gas) was to spend quality time with my fiance'. We can talk and spend time together as we hike around in the woods. It is also a way for me to be by myself....the most inspirational times of my life have occured whilst by myself. I like to step three feet back out of my head and contemplate my life and the direction it is going, and I do this best when on my own. With geocaching, I can spend some quality time with myself in the wilderness. Face it, finding a box with cheap dollar store toys in it, isn't really that fun. Its the find, and hike, and the seeing of new places, and the toying around with the GPS, etc that makes it fun. The sport will grow, caches will increase in numbers. Being a pilot and seeing the world from an aerial view as often as I do, I can attest that there is A LOT of places to put caches. When I fly, I sometimes will just for giggles, have my gps find me the nearest cache in its database, and the number is often 50 miles or more. Many areas aren't easily accessible. But, why not put a cache there anyway for any brave soul who figures out a way to get there? Thats my take.
  10. I did my first geocache with my Airmap 500 (Basically an aviation iFinder), and it worked like a champ. I like it much better than my etrex vista. Also...for whats its worth, I took it for a flight today and it worked great. Navigated across the state and back again. Went looking for a dairy queen, I just searched for it, and it popped one up a mere 1.8 miles away. For all the uses that I use it for, it is perfect. I wish it also had turn by turn information, but its not a huge deal. I love it!
  11. I think it means that if you are loaded up with cache waypoints, it will help to declutter your screen by clearing the map of all the waypoint icons....but leaving the names. I am not sure of this, though. I turn off all of my waypoints so the map is as clean as possible.
  12. Well, I actually just purchased an Airmap 500. Its basically the iFinder with the ability to switch over to aviation stuff (I am a pilot and needed this). But when in land mode, it works well. I am taking out on its first cache find tomorrow. Up till now I've been using a Garmin eTrex Vista. From what I have done with it, it seems just as easy to use as the Garmin.....well, perhaps not as easy in that its not really a graphical interface. The Garmins use icons and graphics to make it idiot proof. The Lowrance is more like the old DOS vs. Windows (being the Garmin). Once you figure it out though, it does the same stuff, works the same way, and is typically a boat load cheaper than the Garmin's, with the same quality.
  13. Worked great. Thanks. I am a premium member, so I got the closest 300 caches. Thanks.
  14. I have a Lowrance airmap 500. The only way to get information to it is to save itto a memory card, which inserts into it. Easy GPS seems to want a direct connection to the GPS. How do I get around this?
  15. Well, I purchased a travelbug tag to create my own travel bug. I'll launch within a week or so.
  16. What is this term? Seems to be used in many different contexts, noun, verb, adjective. I have gathered that it is not desirable. Thanks.
  17. This is true. It won't happen again. Never got chided though.
  18. Teamperks, I don't consider myself a hardcore geocacher....however, I am not new to the world of GPS. Being a pilot, I use GPS in the airplane as my primary purpose. However, 3 years back or so, I bought a Garmin eTrex Vista. I bought it online without actually seeing it, and when it arrived, I was a bit disappointed. It was a bit too small for my liking, and I really don't like that little joystick....I like buttons only. None-the-less, I used it for the 9 or so finds that I have done, but that's about the extent of its use. I am graduting college in 4 days, and decided to buy myself a graduation present, so I purchased a Lowrance Airmap 500 (Not cutting edge technology, but everything I need) for the airplane. However, it is small enough to use on geocaching (Bigger than the Vista, obviously). So, my plan is to rekindle my geocaching endeavors a bit and have fun with it again. Towards the end of my last stint with it, I was getting to a point where I couldnt ever find the caches. I actually missed about the last 4 or 5 that I searched for and just had the wind blown out of my sails a bit. But, I am excited about getting back into it and having fun with my new GPS.
  19. Yeah, but it adds an element of suprise. Actually, I have an old Palm M125....its a black and white doodad. Should it work on that?
  20. OK...I have paid my dues and have generated my first list....pending e-mail receipt. I am interested in seeing how it works. I chose .LOC format. Easy GPS will be able to send that information to my Lowrance Airmap 500?
  21. I think the second poster got it. I do have a computer. My experience with geocaching thus far has been to decide that I want to do one, go to the computer, type in the place where I am, and then choose one, then plug it into the GPS, and go find it. However, sometimes I am out in the field have have a couple of hours to kill (I carry the GPS in the car). It would be cool to have all the nearest caches pre-downloaded in a specific area so that I can decide to go find a cache without needed a computer. Another use for this would be if I am out caching already, and I feel like doing another one....lets say that the first one or two were easier than I though, I can just scroll down the list to the next closest and do that. Get it now? As to the "Pocket Queries".....tell me more about that.
  22. It would be the best thing if there was a way to download all the caches in a particular area right on to the GPS. There are times where I am bored, or just happen to be in a particular area (with no computer), and I wish I could just fire up the GPS and navigate to the closet cache. Is there a way?
  23. I think I have the record for the longest time possessing a travel bug....15 months. I picked it up in Lakeland, FL and managed to get it to North Carolina. The travel bug I am referring to is Nagoya. Well, the day after I dropped off Nagoya (after 15 months, mind you), I proposed to my girlfriend. Its been 10 months since then, and I see that Nagoya has traveled quite a bit since I let it go. I am getting married in a little over 2 months, and it would be cool to see that travel bug again to bring back memories of that awesome vacation to NC and the events of the subsequent day and to remind me of that magical summer. Someday, I am going to find that bug and grab it again......someday.......
