  1. I use it with my Magellan Explorist GC. It took awhile to figure out how to get pocket queries on the GPS but once I got the hang of it it seemed to work fine. I wish my Garmin 550T has some thing that worked as well.
  2. I looked into smart phones with no contract and found the cheapest plan of $50 month on a pay as you go plan was far more than buying a couple of good hand held GPS units. Garmin Nuvi auto unit can usually accept coordinates to get you in vicinity of ground zero. Then any GPS unit can get you on the cache after you input the coordinates. I am new at geocaching and have acquired three units so far plus the Garmin in my car. I use my Magellan Explorist GC to find out which caches might be nearby, how far and in what direction. I use my Garmin 550T to read logs and description of what i am searching for cause the Magellan screen print is too small to read easily. If it is not readily apparent to me where the cache is hidden I plug the coordinates into my old IFindr Expedition which seems the easiest to use up close and most trustworthy and reliable in telling me the direction and distance to hidden cache. If it could do pocket queries the IFindr is only one I would use despite its larger size.
  3. On the Magellan I could open the Vantage Point software and go to pocket queries and upload them in one step. It would sign into my Geocaching com account and download them directly. On the Oregon I can get them on by saving the pocket query to my computer. Open it from zip format and save it and then copy and paste it to Garmin GPS directory. This works but not as slick. It is there an easier way?
  4. I have the Explorist GC model. did you preview the pocket query before you uploaded it. Where there 500 entries on it? What you wrote about suggests you only have 100 caches in the query and it may be displaying all 100 for you.
  5. I just bought a Magellan Explorist GC and the box and insert says a free trial premium membership on Geocaching.com. But when I go to register for it, it asks for a code to enter. Magellan says there is no code needed and won't provide one so is this false advertising by Magellan. It turns out it was an error by Magellan support and I finally got trial membership but it seems their support staff should know the product better that they are selling and it should not have a taken several contacts over a week period to get the trial membership implemented.
  6. I am new at geocaching and have used an old Ifinder Expedition C I bought years ago. It seems to sort of work OK as I am just learning how to use it and about geocaching. I have found a dozen caches so far and it seems quite accurate. But I keep wondering if I would do better with less frustration if I bought something that was simpler and easier to use for paperless geocaching. I haven't figure out how to do that with the Ifinder if it is possible. If I opt for a newer machine what would be the least expensive GPS unit good for paperless geocaching. Some thing used that I could get at a pawn shop, garage sale, or on Craig's list might be ideal? Any suggestions or hints for a newbie?
