Read this thread to learn how to get around the segment limit.

Since you have some experience working with TIGER data.. How does one get GPSMapedit (assuming thats what you use) to differentiate between different road types (arterial road, highway, etc) when importing the TIGER data. I know that the information is embedded in the CFCC column, but how do you convert that into something that GPSMapedit can use? Thanks
