  1. I'd like it if I could search based on direction because I live on the north side of a large river and it can take a couple of hours to get to the other side and back. (I understand they're working on this? ) For me a "NW, N, NE, etc" is fine, I don't need an arrow to tell me that North is that-a-way. But, some people seem to like it.

    Spelling

Then Jeremy would get all ticked off because someone would start complaining about "colour".
  3. You still have the big red arrow and the "Mine" on your own caches. However, I liked it when they had their own colour, they were much easier to spot.
  4. I'd hardly call it a dictatorship; it's a monopoly if we must provide a label. And, despite your assertation that gc.com users have no say in the day to day operations, I have to disagree. If enough paying customers decided they didn't like the way things were run they could affect change by withholding their renewals, (unlike a dictatorship, or your classroom). Not that that's going to happen because -aside from the lime green- everything seems to be running well enough for everyone's liking.
  5. I doubt it, but it's your sandbox and you can colour it any way you please.
  6. Ok, I don't like the new lime green on the search results page. And I don't like the direction arrow either. I mean, yeesh, everything was tickety-boo before; no need to change. I do however, like the speed the last few weekends. Thanks!
  7. I'm convinced too that my GPSr doesn't work as well in the rain but I believe that to be more my fault than the fault of the unit. I just don't feel like standing still trying to pick up some signals when it's pouring rain out and the rain is dripping down my sleeve and down my neck and down various other parts of the body. If it's sunny out, I don't mind standing in one spot picking up signals.
  8. Need? We're talking about tupperware and old ammo cans here; what 'need' can there be that precludes one from waiting a week or so before they're allowed to list it on this site? How many approvers have to join this thread to tell you that a list is a futile endeavour? So you wait 2 weeks to have your cache approved; big deal; the world won't end because of it.
  9. Mark this down, I agree with Co Admin. Why bother with a list that changes so frequently? If you need to talk to a reviewer, email the contact@gc.com and they'll direct you to the person you should be talking to. That's a much more preferable solution then emailing reviewers who have moved on to new areas.

    Problem

WRONG !! if you know a TB's address or name and then go to the cache page via the link provided - this is a page that has NOT yet been approved - you can see all notes - to/from - the approver. I just looked at one of mine - this is a real problem I went to the cache page and removed it from the cache - once you do that you have to go to the TB page and remove both log entries - Since you don't appear to own any TB's I assume the "I just looked at one mine" refers to the cache. It's no surprise you can read the reviewer notes. Edit: Yeesh, I hate it when I type slow.
  11. Signed up on Thursday and started spamming on Friday? Someone hit the report button.

    Deleting Posts

Unfortunately, some people decided to delete every post they'd ever posted on that board and software rescritions necessitated the removal of the edit function. The preview option is still in effect so posters can check before submitting. People shouldn't be afraid of what they type. Posting a retraction is always an option. If I gave the impression that this was a negative comment I did not mean to. I was simply stating that I knew of such a board. It is always the owners decision how a forum is run. I didn't get that impression at all; I was just explaining to those who might not have known, why that particular board decided to remove the edit function. In the case of the board Co Admin brought up, the poster who deleted his posts was a rather prolific poster so a lot of threads no longer made much sense when a large number of posts were suddenly replaced by "deleted". I imagine that similar thinking is going on here by not allowing users to delete their own posts. Of course, that's just speculation on my part.

  14. It seems to me that if you are submitting a cache for approval, the cache should be out there, all snug and warm in its hiding spot awaiting the FTF rush. Any circumstances that need to be dealt with (ie permissions) should be dealt with before the cache is submitted. The approvers shouldn't be spending their time unarchiving caches that they just finished approving. If I was a reviewer, I'd be checking the cache page to make sure you hadn't made any changes to the original submission; and that would be a waste of my time. So yes, place the cache before you submit it. If it's a hassle to pick it up if it doesn't get approved, you probably shouldn't have placed it in the first place.
  15. I disagree with you. The forum is "Geocaching Topics" not "Geocaching Forums Topics". This is the kind of nonsense that went on in AS and resulted in the "Off-Topic" forum. Let's keep it there. Someone's post count, no matter how high, is not a geocaching topic. (Saddest part is, I read the whole dadgum thread)

This might be some sort of record for getting on to moderated posting status.
  17. tlg, your question could be read two ways so I will give two answers. Thanks for the reply Keystone; I was referring to unapproved caches when I used the word 'active' so answer #1 was what I was looking for. I was also wondering what the protocol would be if there was no dialogue between a hider who checks the 'cache is not yet active' and a reviewer. If someone came along a day or so later and placed a cache <161m away and made theirs active who would get first crack at the spot? If you know what I mean?
  18. Just out of curiosity, if someone were to place an 'active' cache near to an 'inactive' cache would the active cache get priority (assuming the inactive cache was done first)? Or would the reviewer cite proximity issues and not allow the newer cache?
  19. Is it older than a week? They're only new for so long. It's based on the date placed, not the date approved.
  20. Weirdest thing. I did a maintenance run on one of my caches today and I went to write a note but accidentally submitted it as a find. Odd when I considered that I've replied to this thread. For the record, I did change it to note. Not because it was wrong to log it as a find, but because it made no sense to log it so.
  21. OK! So I plugged in those coordinates (my GPS receiver wants 3 numbers after the decimal, so I added zero) Biked over... took me to a parking lot next to a building full of stores (including aThai restaurant). First, I went in to the restaurant to see if OSCAR works there (HINT: Oscar will know where it is!), but no. So, WHO is Oscar?? If this is only a 2.5 difficulty, I'm in trouble. Looked around the parking lot area for a half hour or so, no luck. Oscar? Remember Sesame Street? You were near a restaurant right?
  22. Any ideas on how to get people from foreign countries to participate? The mailing costs might be a tad prohibitive in some cases. My conscience ain't worth but 2 bucks. Or have you already found representatives from other countries? Or is this a USA thing only?
  23. They're not really volunteers anyhow; they're more like recruits. It's easier to control someone you've hand-picked then it is to control someone who has volunteered. Volunteers tend to have different motivations as well. Reply ver 1.0
  24. Why not? People play by their own rules. It's their cache, let them do what they please. Maybe you shouldn't let it bother you.
  25. If you'd like to have them appear as new just ask the approver to change the hidden date.
