  1. The Phantom Cacher paid a visit to a WA cache! I've been so busy moving and completely missed it. Looks like it sat there for days. Gak! Good to see the Phantom Cacher is still out there and nice to see you make it around here (or at least within 50 miles of around here!) :o

  2. I have both, and the most important difference to me is that the HCx holds the signal _much_ better under tree cover.

I'm curious as to what version of firmware/software you are running...

I have 2.6/2.6 and unlike with previous versions, my HCx will lose the sat signal, drift wildly and will never pick the signal back up (requiring powering off/on to correct). This mostly happens in poor signal areas such as tree cover, along rock faces, etc. During a day long hike, this will happen throughout the entire day. Usually, if its a quick run into the woods (just grabbing a cache in a park or something like that), no problem though.

Anyways, don't want to hijack the thread, just thought the OP might want to read the thread I pointed to. Lots of unhappy folks with HCx (and other Garmin's using the apparently same chipset?)

  3. You might want to read this thread. It deals with issues with the Vista HCx and it's current firmware/software.

While this seems to affect people to various degrees probably depending on your usage, it affects me quite a bit as I hike in the woods a lot. I haven't had a decent track log since I've upgraded (months) and would never recommend it to anyone based on my experience with it over the last 9 months, especially the last 2-3 months. IMO this is a currently a pretty bad unit and I get more consistent results using my Treo, a bluetooth GPSr and CacheMate w/CacheNav.

  4. Response to the Micro/Baby Earth Turtle requests: There is a Baby ET being minted and I'll start a thread for it when the time is right  However, the initial drawing has been up on my site for the past month, lol. It's not posted right now since I've been doing a little website remodeling but it will be back soon. I think you may even see the coins arrive in August :anitongue:

Edit: Trackable I might add

    Woo hoo! CANNOT WAIT!

  5. Do we physically have to release the coins? I have several I need to activate and I could drop them electronically for mileage purposes, but dont want to release them into the wild. Please advise.

Yes, physically released. So far no winner and today is the deadline.

hmmm, I wonder if there is no more interest in missions.

I'm thinking if you can push the deadline out to Monday morning, you'll have plenty of completed coin drop missions.

I'm sure that ThePetersTrio is right :anitongue:

  6. I have a question. How do we order turtle pins? That are cute!

Being that it is not a trackable item, I can't advertise a link but I bet if you looked around, you could find a link, lol.

    :laughing::unsure::laughing:

The stuff one misses when they aren't paying attention! Thanks much for pointing out that one might want to do a bit of looking around for a link. Site changes since I was last at your site look great!

  7. A question regarding submitted waymarks... if we submit a waymark for a location listed, but it isn't marked, or now removed altogether, from the list of sites to visit, does that mean our waymark was simply rejected for whatever reason? Not questioning reasons or anything, just wondering if that is what it means. I had submitted a waymark for Black Sun, but it's still on the list of waymarks available from last week.

  8. We received one of these great coins the other day. We've been go, go, go and then go some more, so can't tell you how much we appreciated this coin when we opened up the envelope

Thanks GA... you're the real angel!

Congrats to everyone else who has received this great coin!

  9. Gak! I noticed after the fact that we were supposed to include our mailing address in the private message section if we wished to be considered for the coin... <_< So much for me reading the rules :P

I can't edit the four I submitted. If I cancel the submissions, do they get trashed or can I then edit?

Any help appreciated... I love Waymarking, but I love geocoins even more :D

  10. OK, I'm really confused now. When I look at that WM category, I don't see any WMs published. Yet the last two posts seem to indicate that they are there.

Art that has the strike through it on the list of art is supposed to have already received a submission. It does say that one can still submit a waymark just the same though. While I'm not sure, I believe that no waymarks are listed because the judges will vote and approve at the end of each week.

  11. Hurry: a few of the art targets for this week have already been waymarked, and we didn't even get to the weekend yet. Each week, a few more art targets will be added to the list.

Am I correct in my understanding of it that at the end of the week, the existing listings will be removed and the new ones will be listed? Can we still submit waymarks for this week's listings after the 20th? Sorry for my confusion

While we were a little disappointed to get home after spending the entire day at Seattle Center only to find that someone beat us to most of them there, we had a great time checking out the art! We'd seen it a million times but before yesterday could not have told you the name, or anything else for that matter, of any of what we got info for!

  12. I thought mightyzinn's Kid's Community coin got here pretty fast... we were both so excited we didn't even look at the label as we weren't expecting anything else... but instead of the kid's coin out slides a...

    GSA V2!!!!!!!

We were completely caught off guard. The 'woo hoos' were flying freely! The little guy was jumping all around! I had to keep checking to make sure it wasn't a mistake! The pizza in the oven was so burning!

It was just short of complete mayhem and then Zinn got a real serious look on his face for a 5 year old and stated in no uncertain terms... 'this coin is MINE'. He turned and marched off so incredibly happy with his new prize and has been playing secret agent since!

Thanks so much GSA!!! We're all smiles here!!! ;);):D

  13. And I also was the lucky recipient of a very cute Mickey Diver Mystery geocoin! And once again, it slipped my attention, although this time not for so long. I thought it was a pathtag and left it on the mail pile 'til my son says, "Hey Mom -- what's this?" He had caught the return address conundrum and brought my attention back to this little joy. Thanks so much!

    Congrats!

  14. I am really sorry to keep you all waiting by the computer. I am still trying to find out when they are putting them up on the website. Sorry!! I will update here as soon as I know something.

Wanted to let you know that we here really appreciate the effort you're putting in one this  Thank you!

  15. Bummer....gotta run...if anybody gets any extras, keep me in mind...I'd like to snag one red and one blue. GOod luck!!

I'd buy you a couple, but I'm cleared for only buying two for myself... one for the short guy on the coin and myself  If it were only the 15th (payday!)

  16. We're impatiently waiting on these too. Hopefully not too late today as we're going to sign a lease on an apartment so we can sell our house. I'm told this is more important than buying geocoins with mightyzinn's name on them...
