  1. I've found with the Vista, its wise to calibrate both the compass and altimeter every time I change the batteries. Go Vista!
  2. Me and my wife cached in CP on our anniversary last year and launched our anniversary TB there :-) Congrats! I didn't read the responses already posted, but in regards to the compass, calibrate (at least every battery change) for sure and maybe check some of the existing Vista threads to see if the issues sound anything like those. Good luck!
  3. While I didn't get in any overnights, day hiked this summer to Denny Creek ->Melakwa/Kaleetan -> Talapus Lake and more recently Mt Maragret (one of the crew on that hike placed a cache up there). Both great areas! Loved the pics!
  4. Congrats to the winners! Thanks for the cointest, dug all the stories it brought up
  5. Yah! This summer has been a crazy blur of moving and then moving back again to where we started so between being broke beyond comprehension and seemingly always on the go, haven't had much time to devote to the forums. I figured I'd never see one of these great coins in person, regardless of who received it! Early yesterday I headed out to the trailhead for a day in the woods, predictably running late, too late for, *gasp*, coffee! We parked cars at our destination and then carpooled to our starting point as half of the crew was not planning on making the thru hike back to the cars. Throughout the day I whined and moaned my lack of coffee. I'm mostly dysfunctional without the stuff! At the trailhead, one of the crew lent me a camera. I'd lost my camera hiking earlier in the summer, but we haven't been in a position to replace it. Super groovy act of kindness on their part, especially considering I'd *lost* my own camera. At the end of the long day (13ish miles, 4200+ ft elevation) I left the trailhead to head to the nearest source of coffee as I was *beat*. As I pulled out of the parking, up pulled the half of the crew that had not made the thru hike... they'd driven back from the other trailhead and had coffee! There's stuff that restores one's faith in their fellow human beings and this day had certainly had its share of such stuffs. The coffee got me through my long drive home and as I made my way from the car to the house I grabbed the mail. I was still beaming from that surprise coffee and the potential goodness in folks. And in the mail was a package from Geo_Bandit! Wowowowowowow! The summer, filled with significant disappointments, had left me feeling like a real cynical, intolerable wanker (can I say that?). Yesterday left me feeling like a million bucks. Thanks for being a part of that Geo_Bandit!
  6. Zork... fell in love with all the Infocom titles on the Commodore 64 and probably enjoyed some of them more than Zork (HHGTTG!) but it was the original Zork that got me hooked. Infocom's games were interactive fiction games, all text, where you typed all your actions. I enjoyed these games so much that it got me interested in programming in basic on my C64, which only led to further geekiness for years to come. Zork changed my life! And just because... you can actually play Java versions online... http://www.xs4all.nl/~pot/infocom/ Go ahead, open the mailbox... you know you want to.
  7. I was using it on a regular basis until I lost my camera. Loved it, although wish that you could save settings, such as the time offest, so you didn't have to set them every time you ran the program.
  8. If bandwidth becomes an issue and you need a place to mirror, drop me a line, I'd be more than happy to help.
  9. What Ash, I mean CBT69, said... I experience this all the time but attribute it to the server and have experienced it in FF, IE and Chrome.
  10. Wow, that's a heck of a contest... wonder what the 20 free GPSrs are?
  11. I would think so... I've done a couple of 5 star terrains which didn't *require* special equipment, but it sure would have been handy. I didn't feel as though I didn't earn those 5 stars... so, I personally like to think 5 star terrain caches can include extreme terrain which is possible without special equipment.
  12. Did anyone say whether these are trackable or not? they're trackable :-)
  13. did anyone ever hear from mrmacette about a trade, one way or the other? i don't mind losing out, but sheesh, i would like a reply! rsg I put in a bid as well... haven't heard a single thing yet... not everyday you get an opportunity to trade for a coin like this Seems like both ya'll missed my offer of a V3 just a few posts above his. I'm in the final stages of accepting an offer FYI. Guess mine's not as good nope, i didn't miss it. rsg I guess I better reinspect mine then Must have a flaw This reminds me I was supposed to send you a list of stuff I was looking for... still got that M10B??? (btw - sorry no seeking list yet!)
  14. Count me in on wanting to see a pic! Congrats!
  15. To my knowledge, Groundspeak has not made them available yet. There will be some type of promotion to obtain the coins just as they are doing with the Waymarking coins currently. What are the conditions for obtaining the Waymarking coins? One way was when Groundspeak ran an art seeking Waymarking contest in Seattle where one could win coins if their waymarks for the art were selected. I have one or two to trade probably, just haven't gotten around to offering them as I'm in the middle of a long and painful selling house/renting/buying house ordeal.
  16. To my knowledge, Groundspeak has not made them available yet. There will be some type of promotion to obtain the coins just as they are doing with the Waymarking coins currently. As far as I know, only one person (outside of Groundspeak) has a Wherigo coin... and I'm thrilled about that. I plan on keeping it for a long, long time. Yes, I feel very fortunate to have received it. Any chance of a picture getting posted???!!! Can't wait to see what that icon ends up being
  17. Please note that I am not blindly posting 'WASHINGTON' this time round
  18. Good stuff. I'm with ThePetersTrio. This is tops!
  19. WTG Mystical GreenMan! Excellent! Here's hoping some of these make their way into hands of CITO organizers
  20. Holy cow!! THAT was fast!!!! WINNER!! No raise for me, but now I have a bit more security, if I lose the job they have to give me 3 months notice, and I'll now qualify for unemployment benefits if I end up without a job! Sooo, lemme look through my unactivated coins and I'll get a list up for ya to choose from! Congrats!!! Honestly, I've been waiting and watching to see when it happened, hoping the best for you! Glad you got through that... as someone who has worked many temp-to-hire positions, I know what a relief it is to get the thumbs up
