  1.

Can those of us experiencing tomorrow later than others go ahead and hack the date on the image ? :(

If someone feels they need to cheat, let them. However if found out, the coin will be locked.

    How's that for fair?

:) Sound pretty fair to me!

  2. Geocoin Secret Agent - I hope all is well with you, I am standing by for mission #9, it was due yesterday, I hope you haven't been taken prisoner.

Agents be sure to check in on the hour every hour, GSA may be needing our assistance.

Sorry about the delay. The KGB had me on the run for a short bit.

MISSION # 9: This mission requires the use of a digital camera. Please post here (The first 3 cachers to post win). Post a picture of yourself (tomorrow - July 8 2008) in a public place, with muggles around, holding a sign that announces you are a geocacher. The sign MUST have the date 7-8-08 on it to be a valid mission photo. Good luck Agents. Remember, the first 3 posted here are the winners of a V2 GSA geocoin.

"Yes, These can be taken just after midnight, however remember the criteria"

I will personally monitor this mission and disqualify any posts that do not meet the criteria.

  3. Geocoins have been the best swag for me, but best FTF 'prize' was the view of Rainer from Shellrock Peak on a perfect day.

This was taken sitting in the shelter at the peak near the cache while we signed the summit log. We even managed first to summit for the year (at least by the registry ;)) Sure, it's not *really* swag, but some rewards you just can't fit in an ammo can ;)

The most we've ever spent on a cache was about $30-40, aside from an event cache.

I don't think this was the one... We seemed more bothered when people began to swarm within 15ft of him, although he did stand up when someone on the snow above him slipped and slid within a foot of him.

Its pretty weird up there... people all but chasing the wildlife around and when not, the wildlife was just walking up to them anyways.

  5. The first 2 missions have been decided, so unless either cacher decides they do not want or can not do the challenge: then the 2 Earth Turtles will both be headed overseas for this round in the challenge.

Congrat's to Japan (ClanDoyle) and Italy (kdv). I will be in touch some time today.

When 1 cacher completes the challenge, I will open the volunteer session up again, so when the coin arrives back to me, I can get it mailed out quickly to the next cacher picked.

    tsun :)

Awesome choices! I can't wait to see the pictures!

  6. VOLUNTEER SESSION NOW CLOSED FOR THE FIRST ROUND

I will make my decision on Sunday and post results here. I may contact some of you to ask questions, so don't ignore my email, lol.

It's very cool to see that its not just folks in the US volunteering! Can't wait to see what's up first!

  7. NOTE TO ALL: My suggestion is this, please read POST #1 every so often. Everytime a question has come up I answer it and then revise the original post. I'm also answering the same questions but just asked differently now. This is not meant to be that tough, lol. Grab 4 good phyical/earth caches, post your pics and GC#'s here within 4 weeks and you'll be fine, anything else you decide to do with the coin is extra. There are no bonus points given and only 1 coin earned :D I suggest (in post #1 also) that it is your responsibility to know the rules of the challenge and to read through the posts to learn anything new. of course I will always continue to answer questions even if they are the same one :):D

What are you trying to say? :D

    Sorry!

  8. Not sure if anyone asked this yet, but would taking the coin to an event or to a virtual cache count as one of the four required caches, or do the new caches have to have a physical container?

This sounds like a fun game! :D

I see I'm really going to have to setup some fine guidelines, lol.

    No Virtual caches

    No Events

I want an actual physical cache, Earth Caches are acceptable and I like those.

I'm giving everyone the benefit of the doubt here about what it is I'm looking for. However, I guess I had better expound: I don't want to see your local Walmart/Home Depot/IHOP, etc. if there is ever a question about what I like to see, take a look at my gallery.

Pictures with mountains, lakes, rivers, beaches, oceans, lighthouses, meadows, valleys, parks, historical sites, even a local bazaar or farmers market. Old barns and silos, old schoolhouses, historic neighborhood, pretty sunrise/sunset. you know stuff that has character to it. I hope people are getting the idea here. I hope this doesn't become one of those, I just want a coin and I'm going to do the 4 easiest caches there are. This is part of the reason when you volunteer, I will look thru your profiles, to see what kind of cacher you are and maybe even email you so I can make sure you understand what I am looking for. (When I say 'you' I mean in general terms :)).

Is it ok to dip in virtuals as long as four physical caches are logged? I ask as here there are a number of very 'Washington' caches that are virtuals. Nothing screams Pacific Northwest more than Mt Rainier, but the actual caches on Rainier are virtual (not that I'd be able to go this year... just an example)

I'm sure there are lots of similar virtuals across the country, caches which focus on some very popular, prominent local feature you wouldn't want to miss :D

  9. Once I tried using the old 'tie the shoe' thing while looking for a micro on the ground... that worked well until mightyzinn was kind enough to, quite loudly, point out that my shoes don't actually have laces...

    My son rocks :)

  10. It's just amazing to me how this thread was hijacked, redirected, reposted, talking about everything OTHER that what the thread is about. Nice Job guys!

    ~J

PS - Paula had nothing to do with my posting this comment. :D

I agree with LadyBee4T... GSA was OP and this is a cointest of sorts started by GSA for a GSA coin :)

Unless... CinemaBoxers is stealthy like making a find right now while we're all wondering what we've done wrong... this all being a stealthy distraction!!! :D:D:D

  11. As I already posted one, this is just because. When caching with mightyzinn and we need to distract muggles quickly, we simply have him go out and dance around for people. That kid sure loves to sing and shake his bottom. Its pretty effective to send him out and have him start pointing, yelling and jumping up and down like he sees something in the sky in the opposite direction. Heck, if I mention that we're going to get busted, he usually starts running around in circles like a chicken who has misplaced his head, which in itself is enough to distract anyone long enough to save the cache :)

Of course, after making a find, he always wants to share the knowledge of the cache with *every* muggle possible :D

  12. I was looking for a cache in a small clearing with tall grass and some bushes scattered throughout, the cache being located at the base of one of the bushes. Some hikers happened by, saw me looking and asked me if I'd lost something and needed help finding it. I told them I'd been out in the field and dropped my keys while taking something out of my pocket. They actually came out and helped me look for my keys!

I felt pretty guilty that they'd come out to help, so actually dropped my keys pretty quickly and then claimed I found them. Thanked them for their help and they were on their way. I made the find and headed back to the car... where I found that I had actually dropped my car key when I faked dropping them! The ring part on our car key is broken and so is not connected to the key chain. It must have fallen when I pulled out the key chain!

While looking for the key, some other hikers happened by, asked if I had lost something when they saw I was looking for something... Doh! But the cache location remained a secret :)

  13. Well in theory, yes you can volunteer during a specific time period BUT you have a number of factors at play here.

    * Let's say I start the challenge on August 1st (hypothetical). I open the volunteer period for 24 hours. I get 50 volunteers for 2 coins. I take a couple of days and look through everyone's stats because I want people who are active to ensure they will support the challenge and I want to see places that I've not been before. So, one Ausgust 4th, I notify my volunteers via thread/email who they are. let's say they are both overseas cachers and the coins arrive August 20th. They have 4 weeks to complete the mission. So, I will never really have a determined time frame. it all depends on how quickly these coins travel and get mailed. it doesn't exactly run month to month, make sense? if you were picked and did your caches in 2 weeks and sent me the coin back, I'd move onto the next session. the possibilty is there of having both coins finish before the year is up or take just slightly over a year because everyone used up the time alloted.

Now, on that note, I prefer not to have people post: I'm going to such and such because I don't want that to influence my decision, lol. I won't know if people are telling the truth or not, just to get the coin. That's why it's best you just post "Washington". I don't want people posting, hey I'm going to Tahiti. I want people to show me where they live and the beauty of where they live. I suppose if I start seeing people posting those types of things, then I'll just have to ignore it. I may have to more rules, lol.

Mt. St. Helens sounds pretty darned cool and if you did go, well email me the photos, cause i would want to see either way :D

    Did I answer your question?

Question answered! And no trying to sway the vote with the promise of cool cache locations :D

Really look forward to seeing this challenge play out, what a great idea. Frozen Buns proposed people taking pictures of her coin at places at chilly places and outhouses and that was a lot of fun to do :D

As for Mt St Helens pictures, I'm sure I'll post a ton on my flickr account linked off my profile... unless of course I drop the cache over the edge ;)
