  1. mm, No... I looked here: http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/g2/g2.jsp And the original Link you provided. And Here: http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/g2/ where they show the g2 Bluecharts are discontinued too ?! WHAT ???? And here, I looked under the product list: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=6452 Here I looked under the g2 "Vision" and could not find the 76CSx: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=9618#productTab Oh... here it is.... where you said it was: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=254...6452#productTab But what the heck is up with that other Garmin site showing the g2 being discontinued ??? It is VERY confusing to me.... why can't Garmin get it togeather and update their info ? It also seems that so far, they only provide the g2 Bluecharts on a card... meaning that you can't look at it with MapSoource. That's a huge minus for me.... as I use my 76CSx primarily for waterway navigation and plot out my course using Mapsource before I start out a trip. Not being able to use Mapsource for that takes away at least 1/2 of the functionalilty/usability of the product. Thanks for all the info.... Hi, Did you ever get an answer from Garmin? I wanted to purchase the CD ROM versions for the BVI's and found the same note regarding the Dec, 2009 date for the end of support of this product. Like you I do all my routes on MapSource before I start & then transfer them into the 76CSx. It would be a pain to use the 76CSx for route builing since the screen is a little small. So I don't know what to do! I have some time before in leave in Dec. hopefully someone has some ideas on what Garmin is doing. Thanks for your help.
  2. Can you resend the offer, I must have missed it. Sorry, George
  3. Thanks for the info. I will keep it as a back up. I didn't see the original $115 post. But my gut reaction to this one was it can't possibly be worth much more than $50. But people often do not do any research and overpay online. Caveat Emptor.
  4. Hi, I purchased this gps in April, 2007. It has 8 MB of memory but it will not hold all the charts I neeed for my crusing needs. It's a great starter gps. I have the PC cable & the manual. It's pratically brand new, I used it only 2 times. I purchased the gpsmap 76CSX so I don't have any use for this one. I can send pictures if interested. Thanks, George

The GPSMAP 76 adds an Americas, European or Pacific basemap and 8 megabytes (MB) of map storage space to the other outstanding features of the mariner-friendly 76-series navigators. Use on Land or Water Don't worry about losing this GPS device in the drink. The GPSMAP 76 floats in water, and it's IPX7 waterproof to withstand the accidental dunk or splash in the lake. Whether on water or land, the GPSMAP 76 can save up to 1000 of your favorite places in memory and takes you directly to your destination. Store More Data The GPSMAP 76 is preloaded with a basemap of principle cities, interstates (including exits), highways and roads as well as marine navigation aids, including lights, buoys, sound signals and day beacons. It also has 8 MB of internal memory, so you can load detailed maps from a variety of optional MapSource® products. If you're into boating, hunting or fishing, you can use the 76's built-in celestial data, which includes tide information, sunrise/sunset times and a hunting and fishing calendar. 6. I have noticed the same on my unit. The total amount of maps on the memory card (even if they are turned off) seem to slow my unit down. Turning the detail from Most to Normal makes a difference (I leave mine set to Most to all land navigation but Normal for marine - I find I don't need the detail until I am zoomed in), but to really speed things up, turn the spot sounding off - a world of difference. Unfortunately, you wont have depth info, which is crucial where I boat so I dont exercise that option unless I am programing the GPSr but leave it on when boating. This is why I need to set the detail to normal b/c the sounding that appear as dots until you zoom in will disappear until you are at a more manageble map zoom. Thanks for your resopnse. I bought the Garimin gpsmap 76CSX last night for $330 with no shipping charge or tax. I beleive that was the best deal I could find. I got sick of changing the detail up or down when I'm sailing by myself. I would forget to do it just when I need it the most. Also if you moved the cursor off the page it would go to sleep with a blank screen for a long time. I will try to sell the gpsmap 76 next week. My only problem is trying to explain to my wife why I need a "New Toy" To all, Thanks again for your info, I will let you know how the 76CSX works out. George
  7. I considering purchasing eithe the CX or CSX. I only use the GPS when I'm sailing and I don't know if the compass in the CSX would be heplful to have. Thanks for your comments. George
  8. Thanks for the info. I see that West Marine has the 76CX on sale for $299. I don't think I will beat that price on the internet. Also, I only used this GPS when I'm sailing any need to get the 76CSX? Thanks againg for your help. George
  9. Hi I'm using the Garmin GPSMAP76 for chart ploting while sailing. I have installed Blue Charts on the GPS. I have turned off everything that does not relate to a marine application. I've turned off the "Base Map" and it is still slow. My problem is when I move the cursor out of the current screen area it takes a long time for the unit to redraw. I'm consider selling it and buying a GPSMAP76CX with more memory! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, George
