  1. I'm going to make sure all my friends and loved ones are buried in the same spot. A place with lots of rock walls, tree stumps and trees with holes just for caching.
  2. We placed a geocache in an area that was sold to the state and marked as "state forest" because they don't know what to do with the land yet. Geocaching IS allowed, however some of the buildings on the property have been boarded up and are marked as "NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC" by the DEP. We clearly put this in our listing. We do not want to be responsible for the DEP closing down geocaching or preventing folks from visiting because of vandalizm or people going into places they are not supposed to be. Or, worse case, injury to people because these buildings are very old and very run down. However, someone posted to the listing that they found the cache and then posted pictures from INSIDE one of the buildings!!!! What should we do about it? What CAN we do about it? Can we remove the images (or ask the person that posted them to), as they promote and encourage other folks to do it, as well? Should we leave it alone and hope for the best? It kind of makes me nervous and I'm not sure how to handle it. EDIT: I wrote a "owner maintenance" note, I guess I'm going to hope that's good enough and not too over-bearing.
  3. I didn't track it, but only because it didn't come with any tracking info. I was informed by Paul at Sunrise ID via e-mail that it had been returned, which is where I asked him to send it again. He's supposed to be looking into the latest delivery being way late from the shipping department for me, but has not responded back yet.
  4. I ordered a travel bug last month from geocaching.com/Groundspeak, thinking it would be to me soon and I could come up with a theme and place it. Well, I got an e-mail from Sunrise ID (?) saying that my package had been returned to them, and did I want a credit? No, I don't want a credit; I want the bug! I didn't return it, myself, so who did!? They said that they'd ship it back out again on August 11th. It's the 22nd and I STILL don't have my travel bug! Has anyone else had any kind of problems? I'm really confused and I just want my bug!
  5. OOoh....The S on it looks like an 8. Thanks so much!
  6. I picked up a Signal coin (January 2006) in a cache this afternoon. It's got very readable numbers. It clearly says "trackable at geocaching.com". But when we put the tracking numbers in at the site, it says it can't be found. I even went through the list of "signal geocoins" and looked through all the Jan. 2006 ones, but none of the tracking numbers match this one. I put a note in the log we left on that cache that anyone that dropped the coin should let me know, because we can't find it to track it. Is it possible the coin was never activated? How to I proceeded from here?
  7. Okay, that answers that, but I'm confused. Why would you need to put that the cache itself is in bad shape as an attribute for the cache listing? You're the owner - only you can set attributes (right? or am I wrong on that?). If you know your cache needs fixing, FIX IT! LOL
  8. You can select a + for "needs maintenance" in the attributes. Does this mean the AREA needs to be maintained, or the cache needs it?
  9. Soooo...what do they do to look into things like that? For instance, if the cache is in a park or a cemetery, how do they check if said place allows geocaches, or not? I'm just curious, is all, just trying to get a feel for what they do!
  10. Yes, I seem to run into an issue if I do "Is active" or "I haven't found", too. Irritating. It works if I do it within 100 miles of our cache, so that's something, at least.
  11. I've got a cache waiting to be reviewed (two and a half days and I'm not so good at "patient"), I figured I'd ask what the process is. I'm unfamiliar with it and thinking about being published has my mind wondering. Obviously the cache has to meet at the criteria and conditions associated with the terms of use on the site, but what goes into determining that? Does the reviewer only look at the listings, or is there more to it? What goes on behind the scenes?
  12. Hrm. Okay, I never thought to use the cache as a waypoint. Thanks!
  13. Ah. The preview is giving me issues. At first I thought it was that I had too many options selected, but even with only two (avalible 24 hours and recommended at night), it still tells me "Sorry, no results were found for this search." For the record, I KNOW there are a bunch. I specified within 100 miles of my home coordinates, so... EDIT: Actually, I just played around with about five searches with different variables and none of them come up with anything. I get the same sorry message.
  14. Well, awesome. I did not know that. Thanks! Let me fix my wording here and try this again: The way I understand that to work is you specify where you want the list to be sent to, and it queries on a daily/weekly schedule to an e-mail address you specify in the format you specify. It'd be a LOT easier if you could do the search and have the results immediately, links and all, in a list. Like most website searches operate. There's already a great deal of information you can weed caches out from, it wouldn't be that hard to add attribute and cache sizes in the same way. If it had to be kept a Premium Only option, fine, no issues there.
  15. I searched the forums and couldn't find anything regarding this, so I figured I'd ask myself. Are there any plans to expand the search variables when looking to "seek" a cache? There seems no real way to filter out attributes or specifics about the caches themselves you want to view, as of yet! We find lately we've been looking for caches we can do at night, or caches that have easy terrain (before we put in 9 hours at work, we don't want to run ourselves ragged!), ect. Or, if someone wants to go look for a cache along a bike-friendly route, or to bring their dog with them. But, in order to do that, we have to search in the zipcode we want and sluth it out from there by hand. Why not have a way to filter IN those that fit the bill via a search? It would be incredibly awesome if you could search within your area for caches that have the attributes or difficulty or terrain (or even cache size!) you're specifically looking for. Just saying! If anyone else has pointed this out, sorry for the double request.
  16. How on Earth do you post pics to go with your travel bug? We picked up a bug that has a "photo" goal, and ca't figure out how to post the picture with the dropping of the bug! There doesn't seem to be any place to upload a photo on the bug's page! HELP!
  17. Does that make a difference, if it's a waypoint as opposed to a physical cache? It'd be cool if we could have it there, if it's just a waypoint....
  18. We did a cache report page and when we click on "caches nearby", the one in question comes up as being 65 feet away. I disabled ours so that it won't come up for review, so we can decide what to do. That's when we calculated the exact coords and got .205 miles. I'm also curious as to how we can bring attention to the fact that the cache supposedly already there seems to be missing, and has been since 2006 at the earliest. If the owner hasn't been aware of this for a while, perhaps they'd be willing to relinquish the spot?
  19. We're new here, so if this is the wrong forum for this, please let us know! Anyway, our question is: How does www.geocaching.com determine distance? We placed a cache that geocaching.com says is 65ft from another cache in the area. However, when we calculate the distance between the exact coordinates, we get 0.205 miles (1082.4 ft, to be exact). So, I'm sort of confused. The "other" cache in question, by the way, hasn't been found since 2006 and several people (June 15, 07 was the last) have reported it doesn't seem to be there anymore. Thanks LT and DD
