I agree that if you have to bring a Nuvi caching, then definitely go for the 500 (or 550). However, the Yinnie's leave theirs in the car. While there is the convenience of loading caches directly from GPX into the unit and being able to see caches further than 2000 ft away on the map, you sacrifice screen size (3.5" vs 4.3"), and pay more for the 500 compared to others with equivalent features (except for paperless geocaching). If the unit does not leave the car much, then a 4.3" (or 5.0") Nuvi with caches loaded as custom POI seems like a good tradeoff. The 500 started to be the one unit, as we were not caching much. When that changed it was hard to get rid of it. It works great for us. I like to see a cache coming up. I would like a larger screen. I think a regular Nuvi with GPX files would work the same way. You would not have the info. But at the same time I do have that on my phone and my 62S and PN-40.

I have a Nuvi 500 and it is great. I also use it to get there and then use my PN-40 or my new 62S to get the cache. I think you can buy another Nuvi and load caches to it using GPX files. It will be in your favorites and very little info. I like it to see what is coming up while driving.

I would be getting the better end of the deal.

Would that make it a better deal for me?

I am looking for a PN-40 or 60 for my sister. Thanks

For Sale Lightly used Explorist 710
The Yinnies replied to btl-a4's topic in GPS technology and devices
But if I bid on it on Ebay I can get it for $399.90 shipped. You would get nailed with about 8% fees. I would put a bid on Ebay and save some money. Thanks -
The 62S is a great unit, but what about the Delorme PN- 40 and 60. Great units at a great price and nothing else to buy. All the maps come with it and it auto routes also.

Garmin 62s vs. Oregon 550
The Yinnies replied to Diamonds'nGlocks's topic in GPS technology and devices
Try this, get your screen on your Ogegons set to show GPS accuracy. Now watch what it is and put your hand over the top of the GPS. Not the screen but where the antenna is. What do you see the accuracy do? Delorme and 62S owners do the same thing and let us know what it does. Thanks -
Garmin 62s vs. Oregon 550
The Yinnies replied to Diamonds'nGlocks's topic in GPS technology and devices
You are right, it is a personal thing. I really like my 62S and did not like the DK20 or the Oregons I have owned because of the touch screen. I still love my PN-60 the best. For anyone it would be touch VS buttons. Thanks -
You are the one to bid, I was going to post that on here. As far as I know it should be fine. I would go with the 24K Topo, it is road routable and you can use it on other Garmins. Thanks

This was the lowest I saw for the PN-60 and the 62S was down to $319 during Christmas. They will come down in price, you just need to watch. Thanks

I had a problem loading my free update and waited till I got a new computer. They knew I was having problems. When I said I was good to go they let me load it. It was about 6 months later. Most of the time they are great about things. Thanks

I would not buy one without a 3-axis compass. This is my opinion, but I think it is a great tool to have and will pay more for it. Thanks
-
I have had both and if you want it all for one price the PN-60. The 62S I am playing with now is a great unit but you will need to find free maps or you have to pay a lot for them. I my opinion I would go with the PN-60. It road routes very nice and has Topo maps in the box. As far as reliable they are both good. The best bang for your buck is the PN-60, but if you want a little larger screen and also a very nice unit, the 62S fits that bill. It would come down to what you want to spend. They are both great units. Thanks

Pay Pal only cares that you got the item. If there is something wrong they tell you to bad. Thanks -
I would not say Most would but a lot. I had the Oregon 300 and 450 and the Dakota 20. I always went back to Delorme and now I just got a 62S and love it. I am one of the few that does not like the touch screen. Thanks

Anyone have Delorme PN-60 near Knoxville? Reviews?
The Yinnies replied to hawk590's topic in GPS technology and devices
With the PN-60 you won't be dissapointed. I had the 450 and had a hard time with the screen. Driving was terrible. With PN-40 and 60 you do not need anything other than what you get in the box. The 450 is a great unit if you can figure out the screen. I could not. I would rather have buttons. Thanks -
What would you do (buy)
The Yinnies replied to Konnarock Kid & Marge's topic in GPS technology and devices
If you love your old unit go with the Garmin 62s. I have Delormes and love them. I have had Oregons and thought the screen was hard to see. I never like the touch screen, but now that I have a HCT Desire I am learning to really like it.
