  1. I'm wondering if it is considered bad etiquette to bring TB's back to my cache? I realize that if it's not helping a specific mission to keep hands off, but if not just to move them along, and bring a little action to my cache.

I do not see anything wrong with it as long as it is not interfering with the coins/tb's mission. I would keep an eye on them though and anything that stays longer that say, 2 weeks, I would move it along to another cache so that it might continue to travel. :)

  2. Works great with my Samsung SPH-A460

Now if someone can tell me how to bookmark this page in my phone.....

I would think that info would be in the owners manual and the manual if you do not have yours should be available on the Samsung website.

Just messing with ya. Well, mostly. :)

  3. You can always just view the Map or the Google Earth KML and see the states that way.

Since you mentioned it. The map for the travel bugs is small and squatty. I had sent an email asking for a selectable size, or even a pop out map. I was told to put it in the forums and let people comment on it. So what does everyone think. Would you like to be able to select a larger map size?

I was also wondering while reading this thread how about when posting on a TB log that you have posted on before a screen could pop up and say "You have posted to this log before. Are you sure?" Mainly for discoveries.

Another option that cache owners and dippers alike would like is the option to "dip" in one transaction. The reason I say that both would like it is that it would/could eliminate/reduce emails sent that then have to be deleted. It could potentially reduce server time (Granted a very small amount.) as the retrieving of the TB/Coin would then be automated. it would also shorted logs on the TB/Coins/Member profiles as the log could be entered as a "Dip" and not a place/retrieve. This could potentially save a tremendous amount of space. :)

  4. iPhone this, iPhone that. Everyone including Groundspeak has gone iPhone crazy. :) Why is it that people cannot see that the iPhone is an inaccurate piece of crap. The iPhone has assisted gps and not the true gps system. This means it has to use the cell towers for a location fix. I wanted an iPhone when they first came out. I am so glad I did not purchase one. What are we on version 3? Rumor has it that the iPad will have the same agps issue when the next version is released with a gps. A friend of mine has an HTC touch pro. It accessed GC.com just fine until that stupid video was put on the home page. Now the phone hangs in his preferred browser. If people want to try to find a cache with an iPhone that is their issue. However, when they hide caches with that same inaccurate (sigh) gps, they are making it an issue for all of us. It seams like when I have an issue finding a cache, if it has not been muggled, that the hider used an iPhone and the coordinates are 100' or more away from the actual. Groundspeak! if you are listening, start taking care of the masses before there are no masses to take care of. I cannot believe I am about to say this but with the number of people that are into geocaching world wide, a modest raise in membership fees could hire more resources, and maybe even get more server space.

  5. I was just on the Waymarking site yesterday and I too think they need PQ's, I also would like to see all of the needed information in the GPX file. I downloaded several and put them on my Colorado. I purchased the Colorado because I did not want to waste paper and ink on things that could be done without them. In my opinion the most important information (besides the coordinates) is the logging requirements. Someone dropped the ball there. :) It would also be nice to be able to upload field notes, but I could wait for that. I actual reason I am posting here is that I too want virtual caches back. At least til I can get one so I have the ICON. I hate the fact that there is an ICON that I cannot acquire. That's my two cents.

  6. The main issue I have with the Endura is not with the product, as I do not have one an will not be purchasing one, it is with Lowrance itself. I have an older GPS that still works good and they have discontinued the whole automotive line. They have made my GPS worthless since they are not even supporting the maps. I have no new roads, or points of interest, etc.... I wonder how long it will be until all of the Endura crowd is hung out to dry? Oh and my unit was about 3 times more expensive that the cheapest Endura. :)

Oh and by the way, I had some of the same issues with lockups and long time between screen changes with my first Garmin. I kept hoping the next release of firmware would fix it. It never did. This was the whole reason I purchased a Lowrance in the first place. My Colorado Works OK though.

  7. Quick Question, Have you read the owners manual? It is available on the Garmin website. That being said I have looked it up for you. If you go to the compass page it should be the top right box. (Unless it has been changed. I do not know if the summit has that ability.) Some GPS receivers have the ability to configure the on screen displays as you would like them. One such receiver is the Colorado. So I could borrow someones Colorado and not know where anything is because I have mine set up the way I like it. I hope this helps. If you have anymore questions, don't hesitate to ask. You can even email me if you would like. Keep on caching.

Oh, I should mention that the block is called distance to next. As long as you are not using auto routing it should be the distance to the destination.

  8. If you would like to not use as many AA batteries.

    - Get a battery pack that you can put on your belt or in a pocket that has USB output.

    - Get an iGo usb cable, and an A53 tip. If you search Oregon on the iGo website it will show the tip. The tip is compatible with the whole series. My Colorado is not listed when I looked it up but has been working fine for about 8 months. I will say that the tips are not a strong as I would like but they do come with a year warranty.

    - You will need a short usb extension if you plan on having a battery in your pocket, or on your belt.

I should mention that you can use the cable that came with it but you will have to put the GPS in spanner mode in order to be able to get the map screen to appear instead of the computer connection screen. Then every time you plug it in you will have to answer yes or no to the question about mass storage mode. This is why I use the cable method above.

  9. I have a friend that has an HTC Fuse and he loves it. The HTC Tilt is basically the same phone put in a different case. There are drawbacks but I will say this it is much better than most phones out there. One thing I will say is if you are looking for a device other that a dedicated GPS receiver, make sure it has a real GPS chipset in it. I found out that the reason that, to quote another poster, is rubbish is that it does not have a real GPS receiver in it. The iPhone uses aGPS or assisted. This is cell phone technology. it only uses the cell towers to locate you. I was disappointed to find this out as I have wanted one since the first one came out. I was told that the reason that the back was all plastic was for the GPS antennas apparently not true.

  10. Here is a different issue. When I set mine to 1000 and looked at it on the map, there was one cache in the east and the rest were centered around Portland, Oregon where it should be.

  11. While I understand about people that would cheat and the COs hard work, who are they really cheating? Themselves.

Until they start keeping & publishing a list of all solved puzzles/multi finals, and distributing that list to others for "cache tours."

Those that would use them are also cheating themselves.

COs who put out puzzle caches because they want people to solve the puzzle as part of process of finding the cache.

Recently a prolific CO in Wisconsin nearly archived all of his puzzles, much to the dismay of the serious cachers in the area. Reason? People were organizing these cache tours with lots of his (high-difficulty) puzzles, driving around vans or buses of people, and pointing them right at the caches. They eliminated all of the value of the caches, aside from padding find counts.

Yes, the idea is "you're only cheating yourself" but gc.com shouldn't be making it easy to cheat in the first place.

I did already acknowledge the hard work of the COs. Maybe there should be rules against this. Anyone found to be doing this should loose all privileges to the website. I have said my two cents. I would still like a coordinate checker.

  13. While I understand about people that would cheat and the COs hard work, who are they really cheating? Themselves. I feel that the reviewers have enough to do and while they may not mind, I do not want to be in the position of taking up someones time with something an app could tell me. As for the reviewers being able to tell if a person is trying to find the final of a multi, this may not be as easy as you would think. A cacher may want the cache to be at or near a position of interest, or a location of a specific event. Please find a way to give us a coordinate checker. :)

  14. Walk softly and carry a big stick, or a handgun, whichever you prefer.

    I prefer the handgun...

me too. Specially after stumbling on to a homeless person sleeping in the trees behind a hotel.

  15. ...Personally I expect people to read my cache page. All the info is there. There is no mystery about the cache if you do.

Since they didn't access the cache, any folks who didn't sign the log, don't have a valid find. It's fair to invite them to change their find to a note, and log a find when they do sign the log. If they are unwilling to do so, zap the log.

Here! Here! I agree 100%. Until yesterday, when I would go out caching I would print the cache page for the caches I was planning on hunting and take them with me. (Now I have a Colorado) The only mystery is why someone would head out to find a cache without the following.

    1) Reading the cache page

    2) Looking at at least a few logs if not all of them.

I would nicely notify them that there find should be changed to a note and that they can add a find after the log has been signed, giving them ample time to do so, and then delete the logs if not done.

  16. No, it's been so long since I created my account I don't even remember how it's done.

Did you contact the site admin? He's a friendly guy and I'm sure he would be glad to help.

How did you contact the site admin. I have some questions for him. I was able to get my PQ uploaded but I am unsure how to get the maps and graphs on to my profile
