  1. Not sure about the donations. That would be neat if someone who is financially ok would step up. May ask some of the kids parents too? Might check out the link just below yours in the forum titled "I need a GPS, mine was stolen..." for some ideas. People willing to sell some cheap to help out. You can get started with a basic GPS under $100 probably used. Keep in mind the cache was put in the location with a GPS, so don't disturb the area around it & make it obvious to others who come upon the ground. Good Luck Stryker-6 If you hide it, I'll find it!!!! EVENTUALLY...
  2. That's not a bad price w/ or w/o the rebate since they avg 350 retail. I've had mine for about 2 1/2 years and love it. With learning all the features & playing around get yourself some rechargeable batteries though!!!! I used mine for hunting & Military duty the last 2 years in the NW and love it, been Geocaching since around Feb and it works great. Stryker-6 If you hide it, I'll find it!!!! EVENTUALLY...

    Map software

Back to the question... I use the MapSource software. Both the US MetroGuide and the US Topo cds. They are pc user friendly and compatible with most all GPS's. My Etrex Vista works great with them. If you hide it, I'll find it!!!! EVENTUALLY...
  4. Im in the military, used their scout/plgr GPS's. Got my own Etrex Vista for hunting 2 years ago. Nerver looked into it for much else till one night my wife and I were over to some friends for dinner. We decided to play Trivia Pursuit (New Version). The question came up like "What do you call it when you plot locations on the ground all over and use a GPS to go find/search for them?" Hmm, My friend and I both use GPS's and didn't know the answer. "GEOCACHING" He (Exarmycpt) looked it up, now we're both hooked!! See us on Idaho Geocachers If you hide it, I'll find it!!!! EVENTUALLY...

Lots of mixed love/hate feelings at times, but still think all young adults should join a service for at least a year or two. A great life experience!
