  1. I've been using Delorme's Street Atlas USA for several years with my Garmin 12 and 12xl. Just use a Belkin serial/USB converter andf the data cord for the Garmin and Street Atlas will show you where you are. Unplug GPSr and walk to the cache and plug back in back in the car. You don't know how great it is to follow your course on a moving map. You can download your waypoints into Street Atlas as a "Draw Layer" and plan your caching. BajaLou
  2. Thanks for the reply re Street Atlas. We (several Geocachers in this part of the world) use it to route between caches - I'm predjusted having used S.A. for about 10 years so it's my mapping of choice Thanks BajaLou
  3. Hi Using Street Atlas 2004 and it's great - download waypoints direct from GPSr to a "Draw File" Easiest thing in the world. Also - I use Utopia to convert GPX files for import into Street Atlas 2004. Nice to have a good street program "Street Atlas". You can use it to build routes between waypoints and it helps get you around rather well. It even had me go to the next offramp on a freeway and back on to get to a rest area that has a cache. 4. Haven't tried it yet but sound really good. Any thought of having a output to export waypoints to Street Atlas such as Utopia has?? After reading all the logs, think I'll download and try it Thanks Lou
  5. Thanks Tried that and works GREAT. Nice to print SA map of a area to kind of orient oneself to start caching when there are several around a town. Great job on Utopia Lou
  6. Thanks I downloaded Utopia and ran it but couldnt find how to make the files for the Street Atlas 2003 or 2004, only the TXT files for older versions. Can you give me a clue wher I went wrong? Thanks Lou
  7. Maybe this isn't your problem, but I had a world of trouble and found my Garmin Data cable bad. A new one fixed that problem, but I have to make sure the right serial port is selected almost every time I boot up. If I leave the Belkin or Keyspan adapters plugged into the USB port and the device cable (GPS and Palm) they seem to keep the port #. Matching port #s has been my problem and solution. Lou
  8. UTM vs LatLon The GPS machine can convert between the two and you're in the same place either way. I find if I'm trying to use a map then UTM is a LOT easier to locate my position on the map. Make sure your Map Datum is set the same as the map tho. About all Topo's have the UTM grids. But thatever the numbers they still mean the same place. Lou
