  1. Just curious, but why is that stupid? Because the insurgents don't already know where all the airfields are located?
  2. Your examples are different, and you should know it. Locations that are off-limits to some people are completely different from locations that are simply not reachable for some people. I may not have a boat to reach a hydro cache, but there is nothing that says I am not allowed to go to the location.
  3. The new terrain Google maps do look very nice. However, before geocaching.com takes the programming time to add the feature to the gc.com maps, I would rather see the current maps first fixed to properly scroll, properly parse cache locations, no freeze up, etc. Let's fix what's broken before enhancing the maps function.
  4. That makes sense. Thanks for the clarifications.
  5. When your son plays video games and uses names of local geocachers for the player names. The other day I heard him playing Yahtzee on the computer and it was sduck against JoGPS!
  6. Aren't most (maybe all?) military bases off-limits to civilians? Can caches be listed for locations where most people can't access them?
  7. Of course, there's a book published annually with a list of names and addresses that also tells the whole world where you live.
  8. That's great!! LOL The Navigatorz new Christmas song is funny, also!
  9. Sounds like a cool idea. Most people probably don't own scanners, so AM or FM would be the best way to get the most cachers to participate. I have seen videos online of Christmas light displays synchronized with music that is transmitted on low-power FM. You might search for hardware used for those displays to get ideas of how to broadcast your message. Good luck with it.
  10. I have the same "PARSING GEOCACHES and nothing ever happens" issue as well. The initial map displays correctly, and only hangs if I try to scroll the map. Since it initially displays the caches on the map it doesn't seem like it would be a browser/firewall/OS issue, or else the initial map itself wouldn't work.
  11. I would encourage you to ask the flight attendants if you can turn it on in flight (or when electronic devices may be used, above 10,000 feet). The moving map and speed displays are fun to watch. I wouldn't trust the elevation display, though. I think some use air pressure to calculate elevation, and with cabin pressures it won't show the right altitude. On one flight mine showed an elevation of about 15,000 feet, even though we were clearly up around 35,000 feet. I have asked several times if I could use my GPS, and have only been told no once (all on the same airline). The no time I had asked the captain, who said it was fine with him but that I should ask the flight attendants for a final ruling (they said no). Unless a FA has been specifically instructed to not allow GPS use, some may say anything that does not transmit is OK to use.
  12. I found a cache that had a few loose toothpicks in it as trade items.
  13. I think because all 38 numbers of the cache's paper roulette wheel would have been "bet" or circled by the cache finders. There wouldn't be a number that wasn't played.
  14. The TB was retrieved from the MOC of concern on Nov. 17. So it stayed in that cache for a total of 13 days.
  15. It not moving would not prove your point. A bug could not move in any cache, MOC or other. I recently found a TB in a regular cache that had not been visited in six months. It wasn't a difficult cache or in difficult terrain, just no one had been there. It looks like the TB you are talking about is "UBC Okanagan" TB1R5H0. It is currently in GC10A7X, a cache that has been found 14 times since being placed on Oct. 14. It seem like the cache is found quite often, including just 2 days after your bug was placed there. Did you look at that cache's history before deciding that your bug would be stuck there for a long time? By the way, on your TB page your photo of the tag clearly shows the tracking number. You might want to change that photo so that the tracking number is blotted out. Otherwise anyone could discover/move/pickup/drop off/etc. your TB without ever touching it. Happy caching!
  16. I agree with the request to bring the old style TB maps back, the single map that shows the complete path that a TB has taken. The current map version is just about worthless; it really doesn't give any worthwhile information, IMO.
  17. Of course that would require the map feature to ACTUALLY WORK!!
  18. Can't Groundspeak just put it back the way it was when it worked???? It is clearly quite screwewd up and doesn't work any longer. Sorry to be negative, but it is extremely frustrating to use this website now.
  19. I can not longer get maps to work at all. I thought they were getting better with being able to display numbers next to the icons and the cache list. But the last few days it has been horrible! I can't get any map to display cache icons or names. I use maps nearly exclusively to pick caches to go after, and I'm dead in the water without functioning maps. I don't understand why this feature will no longer work. Internet Explorer 6.0 and Windows XP
  20. The last couple of days the maps have barely worked at all. If I view a map of an area the caches aren't even loading. I found that I could get to a map that loaded and displayed caches if I clicked view map from a cache page. That however only shows caches near the starting cache. If I attempt to scroll or zoom the map to view a different nearby area the map freezes and will no longer display anything. OR sometimes it zooms way in, and won't zoom back out. I thought the maps were improving, as they had the cache numbers showing next to the cache list on the right. It WAS looking very much improved. But right now I would just like ANY map to display. It got buggier instead.
  21. If you mean 6:00 PM, since that is pretty late in the day, most people would realize that the sun is to the west, and would therefore roughly know where south is. That should be a good indication of which side of the watch to use. Same logic would apply if it is 6:00 AM. Now, if the watch says 6:00 and someone doesn't know whether it is AM or PM, that's a different problem!
  22. Do you actually need to notify the cache owner? I thought most people just do a drop and retrieve from a nearby cache. I can't see the purpose of notifying a cache owner that you're dropping off and/or retrieving any TBs.
  23. Interesting story. Will be interested in seeing what happens to your TB. Is this your TB? Rucklidgeite No. 2 Good luck with it!
  24. Interesting story to read! On the neutral buoyancy, if the container contained air then wouldn't the buoyancy change with the item's depth? If neutral near the surface, would have have negative buoyancy at a deeper depth. It may be on the previously-mentioned scuba bookmarks, but there's one in the Turks & Caicos Islands. The description sounds like it is inside an underwater dome at 35 feet. "The Dome" GC12BPA
