  1. I've used the excuse of "my wife thinks she dropped an earring here the other day". In some cases, I will just explain to someone what I'm doing. I tell them it's an online scavenger or treasure hunt.
  2. I finally heard from the guy yesterday. I am waiting to get his address from him and will mail it to him asap. Good thing I am an honest person, because this is a $400.00 GPS unit he left behind. Thanks for all of your help and suggestions, everyone!
  3. Sorry Kohavis, I missed your post up there asking for that info. I will also try to contact him through MGS with a gmail sign-in. Geez, look where a good deed will get you.....
  4. He's a member of the Maryland Geocaching Society. I can't register for their forums because they don't allow yahoo email accounts.
  5. I was in Hampshire County, WV on saturday and as I approached GZ of a cache, I looked down and saw a GPS lying on the ground! It had dew and some dirt on it, but despite the weak battery, it started right up. The greeting has the owner's name and email address on it, but the email address is not valid. I looked at some local cache logs and the owner was in the area a couple of days before, so I am guessing he laid it down there while working with the cache and just forgot it. I have also sent him a few messages through geocaching.com, but no reply. I checked his profile and he has logged on since I have sent those messages. What else can I try in order to get this guy's GPS back to him?
  6. I use EasyGPS as well. I have a pocket query generated every week of all caches within 100 miles of my home that filters out the ones I have found. EasyGPS then lets me upload the list of caches to my GPS. I have also gone paperless. I bought a Dell Axim pocket PC (PDA) on ebay for around $50.00 and downloaded Cachmate software for it. The download is free, but only allows you to have 10 caches at once on it, but for an $8 registration fee (cheap!) I was able to upgrade to unlimited caches. I upload the same pocket query onto my PDA and then I have all the info I need when caching. It's like taking my computer with me to read log entries, hints, etc. without having to take a stack of papers with me. Plus, anywhere I am within the 100 mile radius of my query, I can search for a cache. I can then flag the caches I find on the PDA and go back later when logging them on the site and see which ones I found.
  7. I have often wondered the same thing, WVKiwi. We have a lot of active cachers in the area, so I think there would certainly be interest if one were so inclined to start one......
  8. Correction! The MMC Card is 32MB, not 16, as I previously reported, for what it's worth....
  9. I have a Lowrance iFinder Express that I would like to sell. I am asking $75.00 and will even pay for shipping within the US. I haven't used this unit very much but it works well, has a good accuracy, lowrance base maps, 12 channel waas reception, and a 120X160 display. It also has a MMC card slot with a 16mb MMC card. It uses 2 AA batteries. It also has a port for attaching an antenna. This unit sells new for $189.00. I am asking $75.00. PM me if interested, or email me at dannycumbo@yahoo.com . Also, look me up on the geocaching site, my username is komebeaux on there also. Thanks, Danny
  10. Congrats! Small world, because I too reached number 100 on December 29th! Our plan was to try and reach this milestone before the end of 2007 and fortunately got there. I too would say I am addicted because I started 7 months ago! Here's to #300 before the end of 2008!
  11. I couldn't help but notice the lack of Geocaches along the C&O Canal towpath. C&O is a national historic park that stretches the length of the Potomac River almost the whole southern border of Maryland from Cumberland, to Georgetown in DC. Are there regulations on placing a cache there?
