  1. Why doesn't the cache reviewer edit the hint? Something like "in the rocks" when there is nothing but rocks is worthless. But then again how does the reviewer know? Some hints are pretty obvious they are worthless. Another good one is "no hint needed". That one is pretty lame.
  2. I am using a 500. Currently it is "Where to?" then two down arrows to get to the geocache icon. I would like it on the next page after the Where To?
  3. Has anyone found a way to re-order the icons on a Nuvi? It would be nice to have the geocache icon on the first screed after the "where to?"rather than go through all the extra steps. I am beginning to think I'm stuck with the Nuvi setup from Garmin.
  4. We use a 60csx and an iPod touch. The only reason we would to go to the 62 would be the death of our 60csx
  5. We use either JB Weld or 3M 5200. Both are available in hardware stores
  6. Oh, are you the one that left your GPSr laying on the table in the lunch area which we did turn into lost and found? No, I lost it at the COWWS Friday Meet & Greet and Luau. The person that found it called the number on my GPSr and before I knew it, i was getting texts from a family member!! Thanks to that person (name is removed) for getting it back to me safe and sound. The one we found also had a phone number which I called just to hear the answer machine so left a message. Hopefully they got their Garmin back.
  7. Oh, are you the one that left your GPSr laying on the table in the lunch area which we did turn into lost and found?
  8. My vote is for the 60csx. I would also hold out for one of the new 62 series Garmins.
  9. That would be the Dual Cradle that I linked to in post #6
  10. The unit is the same size as the 60 series which I like as I have small hands. It has larger buttons which I like. The rep says it has 20 hours of battery life which I think my 60csx has. The unit has a 3 axis compass so you don't have to move to get a reading. I played with that by standing in one spot and rotating with the compass following smoothly. Rep said it was wireless but then he got ask another question so I didn't find out if you can download GPX files and upload field notes wireless. It comes preloaded with topo maps of the US,it does handle GPX files so you can go paperless, has 500MB of onboard memory. There is no expansion slot. It can add satellite imagery from another source. The display was nice and crisp and it has a new mounting system. The rep said it would be shipping within the next two weeks. Price is over 500 MSRP, which was a shocker to me. Anyone want to buy a seasoned 60csx?
  11. I also use the Geosphere app. I also use the Dual Cradle which makes the app really great. You can go HERE and watch a video on how to use Geosphere. The final step is to use the 60csx for cache location however I think you can do pretty well with a Touch and the cradle. I just attended GW VIII and in the GPS accuracy challenge, one of the winners used their cell phone!
  12. We played with the Garmin GPSMAP 62st at GW VIII. Anyone else look at it and what is your opinion?
  13. We wonder if some of the cachers actually hunt dressed like some were. Kind of hard to be stealthy carrying big huge back packs with all kinds of stuff dangling all over, wild T shirts with geo caching logos, and the kilts! What is it with the kilts? Is it to keep things aired out on long hikes? Anyway we had a great time and are planning for GW IX in Warren,PA The visit to HQ was also a blast.
  14. The iPod Touch is used for carrying your data base. By using one of several apps available, you can download pocket queries and upload your field notes to Geocaching.com. If you purchase the Dual GPS cradle, you can use it for caching but it won't be as good as a stand alone gps. Heck, for your coat of ten bucks, you can't go wrong even if all you do is download music. I'd like to find a ten buck Touch.
  15. Recently I complained about caches being logged as a FTF a day before they were published and ask how that could happen. Basically I was told that I was wrong, it couldn't happen that way, I was mistaken, etc.
  16. Now that we upload field notes, it is usually within an hour of returning home, but in no case longer than 12 hours. It makes me suspicious when someone logs a cache after 3-6 months saying they forgot to log.
  17. We recently did a cache in an area that was full of used condoms, and I mean a lot. There was also a lot of empty booze bottles and articles of clothing. This is not something you would take your family to. The CO wrote our friends that were with us that the reason she put the cache there was for us to cache in trash out! Heck man, I'm not picking up one of those things. We even checked the bottoms of our shoes before we got in the Jeep.
  18. I use the Costco(Kirkland brand) batteries.I am getting 12 hours a day for 3 days and still have a bar left showing for battery power. I don't think I wool go the expense of the Li.
  19. I bought a refurbished 16GB from the Apple store for the same price as a new 8GB. I have 20 or albums of music, 10 other apps and have loaded 600 caches with a lot of room left. Problem is, once you get a touch, you will find a lot of other uses for it other than caching. So far, I haven't seen a need to have more memory other than bragging rights. I use the Geosphere and the Groundspeak apps, trying to decide which one is THE one. So far, Geosphere is winning.
  20. You can do a route and pick up caches along the way!!!! What were you thinking
  21. There aren't supposed to be any buried caches. Better inform some of the CO's who caches we have found
  22. GSAK all the way. The app does more than I know how to work. You will get excellent support from the GSAK people so the low cost of the app is well worth it. The cost is now 25 bucks and you can pay HERE
