  1. Wow! Thank you all for the responses - this is great! I have approval from my director to place a cache so will be looking through all of these for ideas. Thanks again!
  2. Hello! I am thinking of placing a cache at the public library where I work and am wondering what other library-themed caches are out there? If anyone owns, knows of, or has found such a cache, I would appreciate it if you would post the link or GC#. Thanks!
  3. $210 new on ebay. $221 at thenerds.com. I bought mine from them at this price. Great! Thanks guys. I'm going to buy it from thenerds.com. I appreciate all the information.
  4. Hi all, The time has come for my wife and I to buy a new GPS. We are currently looking at the Etrex Vista HCX and wanted to get some opinions on the unit. We'd also like to get some recommendations for other GPS units at or below $300. Thanks!
  5. My apologies for the cross-posting but we are a month away from our move so am trying to get these adopted before we leave! After almost three years here in the Ocean State, my husband and I have decided to move back to the south to be closer to family (not to mention better real estate prices). So in about a month, we'll be settling in Charlotte. We have two caches hidden in Rhode Island that I would prefer get adopted rather than archived. Both are in the West Greenwich area: Rattlesnake Ledge (GCG9D8) and Stepstone Falls (GCGTEW). Both are pretty active and have been maintained since placement. If anyone is interested in adopting one (or both) of these caches, please email me at: lesley at moonlitgarden.net or PM me here. Thanks!
  6. I've created a site dedicted to pictures of setups. Be it geocaching, computers, or gadgets. I've always been interested at viewing other people setups and sometimes it's a pain to go through a whole thread. The site is still in development but feel free to post any type of setup, be it your computer, Geocaching GPS, or HAM Radio setup. I've posted ours but haven't included our hiking sticks. The address is http://rigs.geekrocket.net Thanks, Mike The other half of Under The Stars
  7. Our TB, Penelopoo was picked up and supposedly placed in a cache in Germany; however, if you click on the cache it was dropped it, the link just goes to the main page. I've done a search by keyword, etc. and can't find any such cache. Does anyone know why this would be? ~ Lesley
  8. Actually, there's the TB Graveyard as well as a UK version. I think a Hall of Fame for successful TBs is a great idea.
  9. I have started seeing the 'don't take one without leaving one' comment on regular caches as well. By the same token, should I not leave one in a cache unless there's already one in there for me to take? The point of TBs is to travel - I help them do so, regardless of whether or not I have one to replace in the cache. ~ Lesley ____________________________ I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel. 10. Tim, I share your frustration. We've had a TB listed on one of of caches (only a couple months so far) that was picked up almost as soon as it was placed. No response from the TB owner to my email request to grab it out of my cache. Something that may cut down on the people contacting you to say that the bug's not there would be do edit your cache page to say that (we did that on ours - added a line about that particular TB being picked up in July and no longer in our cache to the bottom of the description). ~ Lesley ____________________________ I'm a loner, Dottie. 11. Mike and I are going back to Newfoundland to visit family in the latter part of August. If you have any TBs that you'd like to get off the island and into the states, email or post here and we'll see if we can arrange something. BTW - We're going to be heading to St. John's and Hopeall area. ~ Lesley ____________________________ I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel. We're heading up to visit my family in Newfoundland at the latter part of August - if anyone has a TB that they'd like to send up that way, email or post here (we're in Rhode Island). ~ Lesley ____________________________ I'm a loner, Dottie. 14. At least in the New England area, I believe it's Feathers with 449 TB finds. Kinda puts our 6 to shame. ~ Lesley ____________________________ I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel. 15. quote:Originally posted by Greg&Christy:What if we started putting a note with large print in the cache(maybe attached to the inside of the lid) that was like a friendly reminder to CITO ,trade up or equal, please rehide correctly etc. Do you think it would help or just be ignored? Probably, but then again it wouldn't hurt. Many people put this type of information on the cache page online, so why not in the cache itself? For our first (and only, so far) cache, in the online description, we asked people to sign the log, cache in/trash out, and trade kindly (a term I saw in a post on the forums and liked as a nice way of saying trade up/even). But people are people, and some have more common sense and courtesy than others. ~ Lesley ____________________________ I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel. Dusty, you can find several versions of the logo here: Public Domain Logo We chose one of the preexisting ones, although it's my understanding that you are free to make changes. 17. Apologies if this situation has come up before (would appreciate a Markwell if that's the case), but there's a bug listed in our cache Rattlesnake Ledge that is actually showing retrieved as the last activity on the TB page: Honey, I Shrunk the Head- is this some kind of glitch in the system or was there an incorrect log somewhere along the way? The dates all seem in line so I'm not sure where/why it's messed up. Anyone know? ____________________________ I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel. 18. I'll chime in as well with my experience. I ordered our TBs on June 26th, received paypal email confirmation almost immediately, then received an email from Groundspeak on July 1st saying they'd be shipped out the following day. We left on July 3rd for vacation and when we got back on the 8th they were waiting for us. Not sure what day they actually arrived. Two have since been activated and released. ~ Lesley Edited for typo. ____________________________ I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel. 19. We leave our cache calling card in those caches we find, plus they are good to distribute to fellow cachers at geomeets. Basically, as someone said, we just use the business card tool in Word and print them out on our printer. The card has one of the geocaching public usage logos (not the geocaching.com logo), our 'team name' and our first names, our email and geocaching website, along with a little tagline. We figure it's a quick, cheap way of letting the hider and other cachers know we've been there. Although I'd still like to come up with a neat sig item that people would actually want to take - no luck with that so far though. Forgot to add that we laminate the cards using the inexpensive package of sheets you can buy at WalMart. Helps avoid them getting soggy or torn. ~ Lesley ____________________________ I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel. 20. Hello, Southern Geocachers! We were recently back in Atlanta visiting family and managed to get to only one cache: Big Trees of the Southwest and found a GGA thermometer keychain, which we swapped for. Not sure who put in in there, but we decided to make it a Travel Bug: Hotlanta I thought maybe if the person who placed it in the cache frequents the forums, s/he may be interested to track the TB's travels. ~ Lesley Edited for typo ____________________________ I'm a loner, Dottie. 21. Well, I just received an email saying the bugs would be shipped out tomorrow and since we're leaving Thursday morning, it doesn't look like we'll be releasing a bug in Atlanta this time round. Serves me right for procrastinating! But we did pick up a bug in MA and will be bringing him down with us, so that's a plus. ~ Lesley ____________________________ I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel. 22. I'm confused by our most recent TB entry: lucky He was in the bug hotel where we picked him up, so why does it say we grabbed him, instead of retrieved? Did we do something wrong? ____________________________ I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel. 23. So Brian, how long did it take for your TBs to arrive? I just ordered a 4-pk using paypal and am hoping we'll get them in time to release one when we're in Atlanta next weekend. ~ Lesley ____________________________ I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel.
