  1. Cool, I have seen maps made with Version 5.0 and they looked good. I had no problems with Topo 8 on an Intel Atom based netbook, so it's not a resource hog. (If it's too much for your machine, you can get that Acer Aspire One nettop for $200...) I am sure my PC can run it, my point about Topo USA version 5.0 is that I liked how the maps looked with that version of software so if I can get Version 7.0 for short money compared to Version 8 then well I will buy version 7.

  3. Hi All, I haven't been on in a while and I am looking for some advice. I tried the search feature but it complains when you use words with less than 5 characters. So "Delorme Topo USA" doesn't fly. Here is my situation: I have a Garmin 60cx GPSr with Garmins Topo 2008 maps loaded on it and I love it! I use Garmins Mapsource Program to manage tracks / etc. I want to be able to print out Maps that are useful. Mapsource doesn't really provide much to help with that. I have seen maps generated by Delorme Topo USA 5.0 and I like the features etc. So that has lead me to look at Topo USA. I am currently looking either Version 7.0 or 8.0 - I have read that Version 8 is buggy and a resource hog on your computer. So I am leaning towards Version 7.0 as my sole purpose will be to import my GPS tracks from my Garmin (or just open the track files) and to make maps to print out of the areas I go to. Thanks in Advance! -Steve
  4. I have the RAM mount, I use it on my ATV - IT ROCKS! T he mount and my 60CX have survived a few roll overs! DOH! I am getting a new bottom piece so I can mount it on my snowmobile as well.. I want to get a mount to use in the Truck as well.
  5. Too bad.. I bought Topo USA from Ebay back in April... so I do not qualify for the $30 rebate.. then again I did only pay $70 bucks for it..
  6. You can transfer Waypoints, Maps, Routes and Tracks to Mapsource. Just select the "RECEIVE FROM GPS" button on the tool bar. As Miragee had stated you probably need the latest version of Mapsource. That can easily be obtained by selecting HELP on the toolbar then CHECK FOR SOFTWARE UPDATES Once you updated Mapsource do the following: In your case, I would download only the TRACKS, then you can view them with Mapsource and edit them if needed. Lastly you can select the SAVE AS and then select GPS eXchange Format (*.gpx) As far as your track having several segments, I believe each individual track is limited to 500 points max. You can also combine tracks using Mapsource. Let us know how you make out!
  7. Sorry for the late chiming in... But Nate you are using what is called CAD..... C- Cardboard A - Assisted D - Design I also have the RAM mount for my ATV - it Rocks!! -Steve

  9. I wrote Garmin explaining the laptop I took into the field had NO disc drive, and I was not about to connect an external DVD drive everytime I had to load their software. After a few replies, one of the techs told me to do what Miragee says to do. Copy all three CDs to one folder, and run the setup from that folder. I have never required the CDs since that time. Thanks Guys! Worked perfect!! it was such a pain to keep swapping discs!!
  10. Is there a way to get around having to have the CD in the drive each time you open Mapsource and view maps? I don't want to chance damaging the CD and then I am out $100...
  11. I had that problem but with Maps... I was taking a trip to California so I loaded up the maps for SanJose area.... well then I came home and used my GPS at home and no MAPS!! Grr... my mistake but it seems that when I uploaded maps, it upload only the maps I had in Mapsource. Lesson learned...
  12. MrJeep, use GPSVisualizer. Link to GPS Visualizer Website You can superimpose your tracks onto either Google maps or onto google earth! it rocks I use it to do my ATV tracks. -Steve
  13. David, I use my 60cx for just that.. I have a RAM Mount on my Quad. I just turn on the GPS, with track log set to auto and go! What I do is each time I come to a trail junction I simply mark it as a waypoint (2 quick button presses - MARK then ENTER). Then when I get home I divide up the tracks color code them etc.. I do all this with Mapsource. It is a mediocre program but it works If you want I can email you a map I am currently working on so you can get an example. You can also use GPS Visualizer to view your tracks on Google earth! Now that is some cool stuff! I love my 60Cx - best new toy purchased recently --- well aside from the Quad... Where you from? I am in Tax-a-chusetts -Steve
  14. I second, third, fifth - Whatever the RAM Mount - Excellent Setup! I have it for my ATV and it ROCKS! Though with the DC power cord, I had to rig it up so the cord was secured near the unit, as it kept falling out and my tracks got all screwy! I just found the setting in my GPS tonight that allows the GPS to remain "ON" if external power is lost... Obviously it will only remain ON if you have batteries in it! The Ram mount is not cheap - mine was $49 Shipped but Well worth it in my mind...
  15. Hi All, I am new and I have a Garmin GPSMap 60Cx and I love the coverage I get in the woods. I love the unit period! I use it for my ATV and this winter on my snowmobile as well. -Steve
