  1. Thanks for your replies. I guess what i found out is do what ever makes you enjoy this sport/game. Ken
  2. I just had a cacher post a find on my cache and he/she said that the power lines were making the GPS wacky. This cache is in a city neighborhood and not one of those high votage towers. As for me the only thing that bothers my GPS is it not seeing the Sats. I.E. under a bridge and or trees etc. What do you think? Ken
  3. I really don't get the draw to be the first to find thing. I can see if it was a very difficult cache and had some sort of prize for the FTF. FTF's are not tracked, so tell me why do you like to be the FTF? This is an honest question and I am not ranting or trying to bash those who do like to be FTF. I don't have any problem with the concept of wanting to be FTF. Ken

    Boobycaches

I really wouldn't too much stock in what the Texas DPS, especially when they will stop someone for doing 74 in a 70 zone. I have been a Deputy Sheriff for 18 yrs and had never thought of a cache being booby trapped It's just typical hysteria of cops because they have a us vs them mentality. It's roughly 10% of the population that causes 95% of all calls for service. And more than likely that 10% ain't smart enough to booby trap anything without hurting themselves first. I believe people are generally good and should be treated with respect. I agree with those who have said "why booby trap something when 1 maybe 2 people will get hurt". Terrorist and or idiots want publicity. Ken
  5. I think sometimes we forget that only the healthy, mobile people geocache and that's far from the truth. Easy 1/1's are good for those who cannot do a 1 mile walk up and down hills. This way all who wish to partake are able to. Personally, I don't mind 1/1's or 3.5/3.5's. Sometimes I don't feel like bushwacking and am thankful for those easy 1/1's. My $.02 worth. Ken
  6. Deputy Sheriff San Bernardino County California. Been doing that for almost 18 years and can't wait to retire so I can cache alot more!!! Ken
  7. Yeah and as soon as I posted that I go out get stopped and asked what I was doing! I didn't have my I.D. with me and I didn't take my weapon with me. Good thing because he said he was looking for people out shooting. But I knew he was lying because I asked if he ran my car he said no but later he said yes. I had seen him behind my car from the top of the hill where I was at so I knew what he was up to from what I would have done in my early years as a cop. I am not so gung-ho now. Oh and BTW I diddn't find that cache! Ken
  8. When you send an e-mail to the holder of the bug simply ask if they had placed it in a cache and if they had forgot to log it. I say this because I don't think everyone who visits a cache logs it on the web site. My cache has 6 entries on the log but only 3 on the web site. Ken
  9. Thanks, I didn't see that thread. It helps alot. Ken
  10. In Feb 2005 I'll be heading to Paris, France and I would like to find a few caches. I did a search and there are over 350 caches in France. I can't get it to narrow down to Paris only at all. If you know of some could you post or link them here? Keep in mind I'll be on foot, I don't have any plans on renting a car. The hotel we are staying at in near the Eiffle tower. Thanks. Ken
  11. It was so refreshing to read these stories. I am a Deputy Sheriff and I too worry about being stopped by the cops. I know for me and the other cops and rangers here to I.D. ourselves is easier because we have that certain I.D. All I have to say is no need to lie. You are doing something totally legal and if bu chance you happen to be tresspassing, well the cops have bigger fish to fry. Most all will tell you to leave. You never know it may be me someday who has to stop you. Now wouldn't that be fun!! Ken
  12. If you use a disposable camera you may be able to write an address or e-mail addy on it so the person who takes the last pic can contact you and arrange for the return of the camera. Just a thought. Ken
  13. I found my first one today. I showed the web site to my wife and all the cacches around our area and she is up for going along with me. But we will limit ourselves to 1 or 2 a weekend. Had alot of fun. Already thinking of where I could place a cache.
